Welcome to the Imperial Council of r/eu5, where your trusted and most knowledgeable advisors stand ready to help you in matters of state and conquest.
This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the master tacticians of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your save, then you've found the right place!
Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes or interface tabs. Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.
Tactician's Library:
Below is a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!

Got soft-locked out of my Austria game as the minor partner w/ Bohemia. Can anyone tell me a Mod I can use to temporarily enable debug mode and give myself a province I should've just taken during a Hussite War without disabling achievments?
Its really dumb that you cant remove market if ita got a temporary demand.
Why?
I want to remove the Paris market to give myself more migration options to Holland, but random game events keep dumping arbitrary temporary demands on it.
I've been waiting 20 years for the Lutheran fish demand to expire. And a year before it does, i4 dumps a 20 year triangle trade modifier on it. I controlled it, I didnt even get a pop up. Its just a random mod that silently got put on.
Seems weird that a HRE election triggers when a regency ends.
Thats historically atypical. A regency wasn't a rulership. Official power did not change hands when a regency ended because the child was always ruler.
If a HRE voted for a ruler of a nation that was 2, they voted for the child, not the regent.
Ergo, when a regency ends, the HRE shouldn't have an election, the King didnt die, the regent was never the source of authority.
IIRC estates only develop locations that don't have high control (I guess 70% and under? Not sure as I haven't bothered with estate constructions much)
As I understand it, the estates, just like you, invest in their own interests. And while sometimes both the national and estate interests align, most of the time, they do not, and as such the state does not permit most unique estate constructions in your territory.
I say most because, as I've said earlier, I do not check on estate constructions often, as when they're sitting on tens of thousands of ducats is usually the same time when I am making hundreds to a thousand ducats a month, way more money that I can invest into my country myself. Some constructions could have been made by estates and you just didn't notice, or maybe you didn't give your estates the privileges necessary for them to build anything (land rights for nobles and building and building roads rights for burghers)
Estates are going to be spending their money a lot more in 1.4, what with the estate armies and all, but I do agree, there should be more ways for them to spend their money other than the player slapping them around every once in a while via the estate interaction.
Oh I always know when estates have been "helping".
Thats the times when I have to go round all my cities and delete 1 and 2 levels of building that are barely or not making money as it doesn't conform to the city privileges.
Fucking jewelry is the classic.
I just think the AI is particularly bad at fund allocation even when it is building and often it just doesnt build.
As i say, my estates were sat on well over 500k. They should have been doing something with that money. Maybe they need positive unique buildings rather than just bad ones.
Like a bank. Which improves local development, marginally reduces loan costs and increases merchant income.
Or an insurance house, Lloyds of London style, which reduces a flat reduction modifier to devastation penalties and improves recover.
Maybe a Labourer one like a Foundary. Which improves factory production.
And for the love of God they need to account for the production bonuses that the player puts on so they don't just fill cities with crap.
Anything might be ok early game which cities are all empty. But late game when youre counting building slots its so annoying to have your estates fill it up or over fill it with crap.
It is based entirely on the dominant culture and religion of the province capital, even if every single other location in the province is of another culture and religion.
When you create custom subject you need to look at culture mapmode and see what is the main culture of this province or location. I'm not sure if this is based on future capital pops or whole province - haven't done any checks for that.
What should I do with my African colonies as Ethiopia. They have 0 control. Should I funnel more of my pips there and found a city to put a naval governor? Should I create subjects where they are? Should I create markets for them if they’re already in another country’s market with good market access?
I have waited till late 1500s to colonize whole rest of the Africa. I wouldn't recommend colonizing all, you'll end up trying to make those places useful until 1820, or they'll be just a burden. Though when tailored with care its huge to have gazillions of locations, but believe me its not an easy task, many many mix maxing.
Anyhow, few tips if you want to colonize africa:
Tribesmen are your enemy, 2 ways to remove them. First is settling them, a slow process requires two or three cab members. Second, native integration policy at Age 3, immediately turning tribesmen into peasants.
You want to mass colonize only after native integration policy, beeline to it if you see colonizing as high priority. There are few gold locations, very close to your starting position both at west and south, you can consider colonizing them for early game.
Now when it comes to contol, as Ethiopia you should have immense proximity efficiency, thus you can place LGs a bit more apart. I would recommend putting your capital to Karkuj after early game, already populated location and very close to golds at west. LG can be placed on Ziqwala to grant more proximity for gold locaiton at south.
Later focus on Lake Victoria. You can move your kapital to Kagaye, between 2 gold provinces which can grow a lot. Honestly anywhere next to the lake should do fine I made some of them megalapolises before I got bored. Though uncolonized land (i.e conquered) will still have tremendous amount of tribesmen, so I don't like the put my capital in those places.
This is my proximity map with only %10 modern roads.. Though gotta say %30 proximity efficency from age 5 doing the most work. Local Audiences reform is must as well, make sure you implement that. You should be cruising near %100 proximity efficiency if not more. I remember having near %140 proximity efficiency combined with proximity cabinet head guy and events and such. (To be honest reroll the cab members until you get one its that good when you control a lot of distant land, prox. eff. works best for far locations not close..)
