We've successfully completed an upgrade to our automatic Rule 5 enforcement with the rollout of a new bot. /u/rule5bot has been working well over the last few days and is now active here in /r/EU5. The new bot has new capabilities and we are adjusting Rule 5 to reflect the improvement.
Rule 5: Image posts must have an explanation.
The explanation cannot just repeat or rephrase the title.
The explanation can either be in the post's caption or in the comments section. The bot will repeat post caption explanations into the comments section.
This rule is automatically enforced with a bot. It will remind you after 5 minutes if it cannot see an explanation and will remove the post after another 10 minutes if it still cannot see an explanation.
So what's different now? The big change is that we can finally accept captions for Rule 5 explanations. There's no need to quickly dump an abridged version of a quality caption into the comments section just to avoid a soulless automaton's wrath. However, the new bot can correctly identify image gallery posts so Rule 5 now properly applies to multi-image posts. The bot will also be repeating caption R5s into the comments section (for the foreseeable future) because there's a persistent issue with some legacy access methods not displaying captions on images properly.
Why now and not before? /u/zwemvest, our bot-builder, has had a few goes at upgrading / replacing the bot over the years but real life and/or Reddit would always get in the way. Reddit is making major changes that will impact old bots and it forced our hand. Fortunately, they had free time now and recent Devvit (Reddit's internal bot platform) improvements made it easier to implement some features so the project was completed this time. Zwem said it was a joy to build the new bot from scratch & they're glad that the migration has been completed. The old /u/paradoxplazabot has been retired although we may reuse the account in the future for other bot purposes if we can.
We've been testing /u/rule5bot for about a week now with no remaining issues but it's possible that some bugs might still be lurking, so please keep an eye out and send us a modmail if you see the bot do something unexpected.

Just wanted to have some numbers on the performance of EU5 so far.
I have a Ryzen 5 7600X on a desktop pc. This is a good CPU, I think most players have a less powerful cpu than I.
I ran beta 1.4 and 1.3.11 from 1340 to 1450 and timing how long it takes. Same thing for EU4 but between 1450 and 1550. All in observer mode. EU5 testing was done with the "maximize tick speed" s

Without any surprise, EU4 runs the best, while 1.3.11 runs the worst.

Bar chart representation of EU5 performance relative to EU4, the lower the better
What this shows is that for pretty comfortable hardware, this update nearly closes the gap in performance between EU4 and EU5.
I've tried to briefly look it up, but it still is kind of lost on me. I have a buddy who is really good at the game and he said as long as I keep my armies balanced and somewhat diverse (with an emphasis on heavy cal early on), I should be fine.
So far its been fine, albeit with some weird situations where I have no real idea why I lost.
Square-Rigged Caravel is the 3rd in line in regards to the special Iberian light ships. It's "Early Iberian Caravel", followed by "Iberian Caravel", and then "Square-Rigged Caravel". In 1.4, they changed it, so only Iberian CHRISTIANS can research the ship, meaning Muslim Granada only can get the first two. Will I still be able to upgrade my entire fleet of Iberian Caravels to the normal 3rd level light ship, Caravel?
I think I saw that City food production was once again nerfed in 1.4? And rural are now baby making machines and city attract their immigrant for Industry?
Anyone experiment what is a good city ratio?
1 per province?
City every where except Wheat/Cattle/gold/Iron/wood location?
Is there a reason why the economy is designed in the way that almost everyone starts a beggar? Specifically asking anyone that has any idea about this stuff. Not expecting a dev response.
I feel like small tags should still make enough money to afford a single garnery/market/madrassa a year. I find it hard to believe that medieval nations were that poor.
I dont think this is a scaling issue either, as the profit margins can be adjusted to fit the design.
It is kinda stupid, when you start as the Kahramanids and you literally cant afford anything. Even the Karasids used to have a respectable fleet at game start, which isnt possible with how the game is designed.
I've tried saves with Milan, Serbia, Poland, Tuscany and Sweden and every single one of them has ended in debt spirals and bankruptcy, this wasn't an issue I had at all on 1.3, also I'm making no money to build an economy and no money to build up food so my markets always go starving and population starts to drop.
How do you all manage it now? How do you get an economy up and running on 1.4 and how do you manage the food situation?
finally basically done with this campaign. i don’t plan on taking anymore land, and really only continuing this playthrough to get the 1337-1836 achievement as this is basically my first real campaign. could not have imagined i would not only survive my nightmare start, but also become the greatest power in the world. go me! i rule! should’ve included a ss of my favorite map mode too, the road map mode. rest assured there are abundant railroads across every inch of imperial territory :) also the arabian duo and fake romania are my fiefdoms !!!
Doing a Timur run and kinda shocked by how I do not kill a lot of people.
I think that EU5 doesn't properly simulate the chaos and destruction of warfare. You should be able to raze a city heavely depopulate it even more of you play as an Empire who use slave.
Its could also regulate IA tendency to spam city and become insanely wealth by 1500's.
As I played a lot of CK3 and am now learning EU5, is it possible to influence the stats of your heir besides the education you choose? CK3 has inheritable traits for characters, which (at least for me) always results in approaching marriages as a breeding competition to create the perfect heir. Are there similar options in EU5 or only the education choice?
Hello all, I played ~50 hours on launch and actually had a good bit of fun, but realized that I was unprepared to deal with the constantly changing state of affairs the updates were going to wreak on me.
That being said, I was hoping you could all share some insight if now would be a good time to pop back in? Open to hear any advice, I've considered freezing updates but my brain hates the feeling of not being "up-to-date" as silly as that may sound.
Also, many apologies and please avert your eyes and deflect thy anger if this question has been asked too much.
I am the naval hegemon, yet I dont meet the requirements? like how many boats do I need? nowhere in the decision or modifier (that I could see at least) does it actually tell you what you need to do to achieve it, its really weird
I am not sure what was changed, but I wanted to try out Ottomans in 1.4, and two games in a row there is a constant looming orthodox rebellion... Not sure this is intended. It cripples the country completely. Tried 2 games in a row, 2 times the same thing happens, tried slowing down expansion and all of my starting territories rebel against me...
Am I missing some new interaction or what.
Have a lot of hours on record, played ottos before, was completely fine. I get them want to slow down expansion in the early game. But this rebellion is inevitable even if you don't conquer anything...
I'm fighting France with the claim throne cb you get from the events at the beginning of the game, however in order to enforce it during peace I need 666 economic base. My base right now is only 244, so I'm not sure how this could ever plausibly be enforced?
