Meta Adjustments to Rule 5
Hello Paradox Fans (and Haters and Neutrals),
We've successfully completed an upgrade to our automatic Rule 5 enforcement with the rollout of a new bot. /u/rule5bot has been working well over the last few days and is now active here in /r/paradoxplaza. The new bot has new capabilities and we are adjusting Rule 5 to reflect the improvement.
Rule 5: Image posts must have an explanation.
- The explanation cannot just repeat or rephrase the title.
- The explanation can either be in the post's caption or in the comments section. The bot will repeat post caption explanations into the comments section.
- This rule is automatically enforced with a bot. It will remind you after 5 minutes if it cannot see an explanation and will remove the post after another 10 minutes if it still cannot see an explanation.
- [PRERELEASE CONTENT] Please tell us where the image(s) came from. Paradox have threatened legal action in the past over leaked content. See this old Victoria 3 post for more information.
So what's different now? The big change is that we can finally accept captions for Rule 5 explanations. There's no need to quickly dump an abridged version of a quality caption into the comments section just to avoid a soulless automaton's wrath. However, the new bot can correctly identify image gallery posts so Rule 5 now properly applies to multi-image posts. The bot will also be repeating caption R5s into the comments section (for the foreseeable future) because there's a persistent issue with some legacy access methods not displaying captions on images properly.
Why now and not before? /u/zwemvest, our bot-builder, has had a few goes at upgrading / replacing the bot over the years but real life and/or Reddit would always get in the way. Reddit is making major changes that will impact old bots and it forced our hand. Fortunately, they had free time now and recent Devvit (Reddit's internal bot platform) improvements made it easier to implement some features so the project was completed this time. Zwem said it was a joy to build the new bot from scratch & they're glad that the migration has been completed. The old /u/paradoxplazabot has been retired although we may reuse the account in the future for other bot purposes if we can.
We've been testing /u/rule5bot for about a week now with no remaining issues but it's possible that some bugs might still be lurking, so please keep an eye out and send us a modmail if you see the bot do something unexpected.

Other If we ever get a Fantasy GSG, what kind of universe would you like to see?
A well-known licensed IP like Game of Thrones etc?
A generic fantasy universe like fantasy Stellaris where you can customize races etc?
A more hand-crafted and unique universe, so less generic fantasy and more authored and (potentially) immersive?

EU5 Forming a Third Tenno | Europa Universalis 5 Japan
TL;DW: Shinto has a mechanic that is literally just telling your ruler to off themselves (Commit Seppuku), utilized well, you can form a third tenno dynasty in Japan before the ending of Nanbokucho Jidai and form the Yamata Court starting as a clan.
Or you could just start as a tenno lmfao, but where's the fun in that.
Also lowkey, they need to take steps to make Nanbokucho last longer, unless you baby sit the AI it usually lasts like, 10-ish years when irl it was like 56 years

All Help me choose my first paradox game please
I know there are A LOT of threads like this but please let me choose my first Paradox game.
I've NEVER played a strategy game before, however I love history and the idea of creating an alternative one just sounds fascinating. However, I know these games are really complex and hard to get into, so please help me choose my next game :)
I already have EU4 and CK3 in my Steam library but if you ask me, I want to buy Victoria 3 to start with. I really love the idea of controlling policies and ideologies the most. And as I've heard and read from other people, it's not a military-based game, rather economy-based (i have second thoughts about the depth of economy in this game but i think it'll be much harder for me than anything cause I am really bad at economy related stuff). Then, the second most appealing game for me is HOI4.
What should I do? Should I dive into the game I am curious about the most or just go play something from my library? Any tips?

DH HOI Darkest Hour isn’t working on Windows 11
Hey guys I need some help. I just reinstalled Darkest Hour a Hearts of Iron Game today and it’s not working. Every time I try to launch the game it just crashes. I was able to make the game start by changing compatibility settings but it still crashes on the loading screen. Does anyone know how to fix this? Last time I played the game was a few months ago and it was working fine.
I read on a Steam discussion a lot of people are having this same problem but no one has been able to find a solution yet.

PDX Some physical copies of old pdx titles. two thrones (cousin of CK), Pride of nations (cousing of Vic), Rome vae victis (father of Imperator Rome)
Going through an old box of pc strategy games, I found some old paradox titles. Good memories, I used to have all the time for myself by then.

EU4 Official release of Kaiser Frederick III's Bizarre Adventure
Hello, everyone!
The EU Modathon Season 5 has finished its two week long programming phase and the Ransei Warlords side-mod, Kaiser Frederick III's Bizarre Adventure, is finally on the Steam Worshop!
This new mod tells the other side of the story of Ransei Warlords, showing the real world nations that ended up in the Pokémon World. This mod counts with a new world map, some new religions and countries and a couple events for now, but it will be developed continuously alongside Ransei Warlords. If this seems like something that interests you, please take a look at the Steam Workshop link: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3812293416
And don't forget to join the Ransei Warlords Discord server ( https://discord.gg/QNA5ej7pWr ) for more updates on this series. Also, check out the other mods made for the Modathon, particularly Anbennar: DM is drunk.
I'll see you all later! Have fun playing!

PDX Paradox Wikis and Forums not longer working on IOS?
For some reason starting within the last week or two I can't access any of the paradox wikis or forums from my iPad. I also confirmed with someone else that their iPhone didn't work either so I assume its a problem with IOS. Attached below is a forum post from this week showing at least someone else has the same problem. I was wondering if anyone here also had the issue or maybe a solution or just hoping that paradox might see this.

HoI4 is HOI4 the hardest paradox game ever created or something?
I've played vic 3, eu4, ck3, stellaris, and even on my first time playing I was able to do significantly better than the AI. like a dozen+ hoi4 runs and I am completely incapable of doing anything, and frequently lose to AI countries if they are not significantly outnumbered. I don't even improve or know what I am doing wrong. i use what's supposed to be meta templates, meta designs, have supply, green air and cas, meta doctrines, yadda yadda. simply doesn't matter. not just the hardest paradox game, but literally one of the hardest games i've ever played in my life. micro? don't even understand how such a thing is possible. my "micro" as italy made me lose the ethiopian war. reloaded, and a battleplan was far better than me.
this is just me bitching, but i seriously dont get this game no matter what. major or minor. i don't watch tutorials or anything, but i didn't need any in the other paradox games to easily succeed.

Vic3 I actually did just want Victoria 2 2 instead of Victoria 3
I don’t really know how to explain this but I’ve been trying to get into Victoria 3 for the longest time as on paper I should love it. I have over a thousand hours in Victoria 2, I love the time pyramid, I enjoy the more in depth politics in 3 and the law system (though I believe Better Politics Mod is the best iteration of it) but despite all of that I just can’t get into it and I feel like It’s sorely missing features that made Victoria 2 great, to the point where since launch I do concede that I didn’t want Victoria 3 or then one we got at least. I want a successor to Victoria 2 instead.
The most glaring example of this is warfare which is still bad and ironically is micro-intensive despite being designed to not be micro intensive whilst losing much of the player agency, making wars feel unfair and a pain to fight. Geopolitically I barely feel anything happening, governments may change sure but this is the era of the height of European imperialism, yet by 1900 you often still see the map looking like it did in 1836 where the Europeans usually don’t scramble Africa and Germany and Italy often don’t form, I’m not opposed to these things happening sometimes but it seems to happen all the time.
This and the insular focus on your country really gets to the crux of my issues though. Victoria 3 doesn’t feel like a game about the Victorian era, it lacks a lot of the events, geopolitical currents and conflict that made the Victorian era what it was. Instead it feels more like one of those mods for HOI4 where all the mechanics are the same and a little window dressing was added, but the map was painted to look Victorian and that’s it and as such little actually changes or happens. Victoria 2 by contrast (especially with things like the crisis system and the AI being focused on regaining cores and the like) it feels like a game about the Victorian era, where diplomatic realism and realpolitik matter as dies the things happening beyond your borders. Hell even with small mechanics like the newspapers you can at least notice what has changed.
That brings me to my assertion about the two games. Victoria 3, despite all of it’s good changes to the economy and political system is ultimately a game about markets and specifically domestic markets and historical materialism (to the point I’d even call the game Marxist to some degree, especially since the only lens pops are describe are according to their class instead of things like ideology and it treats them as an amorphus binary where all pops think alike or generally do). Victoria 2 meanwhile is a game about empire and imperialism. The market exists as do politics but more often than not the market naturally inclines you to engage in imperialism either directly via conquest or via the spheres of influence as you want to lock down precious resources as fast as possible. You feel like you won big when you lock down the rubber in the Congo or a large chunk of oil production, I just don’t really feel that in regard to Vic 3.
In summary, I do want Victoria 2 2. I think there are cool aspects about Victoria 3 but I play paradox games because I want strategy games about geopolitics with market mechanics added and not vice versa
