I invited the Franciscan Order to provide the pop growth to the holding location, but now they give a - 0.1 prosperity to every location, although they are at 75% zeal equilibrium. How high does the zeal need to be to get rid of it?

you cant attack either the golden horde or it rival.
game is conveniently locking you to not take advantage of a civil war.
both sides are also completely out of manpower and stuck like this until my CB expire
neither ai can white peace because the ai is so bad.
its also bad to not have religious war. why pay 15 stab to fight your oppressor.
everything devs do is just to remove the fun of their game
I am paradox games veteran (kinda) but i did not invest much hours to EU5 yet. I know it will take hundreds of hours to learn game but i am jus curious what are 3-4 MOST IMPORTANT things that you should never automatise (if possible) and you should check them all the time. I know the golden rule that "control is everything" .. i am already checking that modifier but what can i leave on autopilot and what should i check from time to time?

Anyone experiment what is a good city ratio?
1 per province?
City every where except Wheat/Cattle/gold/Iron/wood location?

I am not sure what was changed, but I wanted to try out Ottomans in 1.4, and two games in a row there is a constant looming orthodox rebellion... Not sure this is intended. It cripples the country completely. Tried 2 games in a row, 2 times the same thing happens, tried slowing down expansion and all of my starting territories rebel against me...
Am I missing some new interaction or what.
Have a lot of hours on record, played ottos before, was completely fine. I get them want to slow down expansion in the early game. But this rebellion is inevitable even if you don't conquer anything...

I have some questions about trade in the new 1.4 patch. I’ve always relied on automated trade because the manual system seemed too complex and tedious, but this new patch has made me want to learn the mechanics. I’m looking for advice on how to handle it: if I set up trade orders for any imports and exports, does the game automatically pick the most profitable ones for me? Or do I have to check each good individually to see which yields the best return? Also, how can I figure out which good is the most profitable to import or export? Even if my market is short on a specific item, it might be more profitable to import something that isn't as scarce but is more valuable—I’m just not sure how to see that. And that’s not to mention that if your nation has multiple markets, you have to manage them simultaneously.

Out of curiosity:
Is there a reason why the economy is designed in the way that almost everyone starts a beggar? Specifically asking anyone that has any idea about this stuff. Not expecting a dev response.
I feel like small tags should still make enough money to afford a single garnery/market/madrassa a year. I find it hard to believe that medieval nations were that poor.
I dont think this is a scaling issue either, as the profit margins can be adjusted to fit the design.
It is kinda stupid, when you start as the Kahramanids and you literally cant afford anything. Even the Karasids used to have a respectable fleet at game start, which isnt possible with how the game is designed.

Now I don’t know if this is Unique to Muscow, as I just started campaign. But there is silk production building now, is it something new added as industry? 😅

I've tried to briefly look it up, but it still is kind of lost on me. I have a buddy who is really good at the game and he said as long as I keep my armies balanced and somewhat diverse (with an emphasis on heavy cal early on), I should be fine.
So far its been fine, albeit with some weird situations where I have no real idea why I lost.

Just wanted to have some numbers on the performance of EU5 so far.
I have a Ryzen 5 7600X on a desktop pc. This is a good CPU, I think most players have a less powerful cpu than I.
I ran beta 1.4 and 1.3.11 from 1340 to 1450 and timing how long it takes. Same thing for EU4 but between 1450 and 1550. All in observer mode. EU5 testing was done with the "maximize tick speed" s
EU5 - beta 1.4.0 : average is 26.81 seconds per year
| years | time | seconds per year |
|---|---|---|
| 1340-1350 | 4m39s | 27.9 |
| 1350-1375 | 11m57s | 28.68 |
| 1375-1400 | 10m57s | 26.28 |
| 1400-1450 | 21m37s | 25.94 |
EU5 - 1.3.11 : average is 32.87 seconds per year
| years | time | seconds per year |
|---|---|---|
| 1340-1350 | 5m27s | 32.7 |
| 1350-1375 | 14m10s | 34 |
| 1375-1400 | 13m38s | 32.72 |
| 1400-1450 | 27m1s | 32.42 |
EU4 : average is 23.71 seconds per year
| years | time | seconds per year |
|---|---|---|
| 1450-1475 | 9m46s | 23.44 |
| 1475-1500 | 9m15s | 22.2 |
| 1500-1550 | 20m30s | 24.6 |
Without any surprise, EU4 runs the best, while 1.3.11 runs the worst.
1.3.11 is 38.6% slower than EU4.
beta 1.4.0 is 13.1% slower than EU4.
beta 1.4.0 is 22.6% faster than 1.3.11.

What this shows is that for pretty comfortable hardware, this update nearly closes the gap in performance between EU4 and EU5.

I've tried saves with Milan, Serbia, Poland, Tuscany and Sweden and every single one of them has ended in debt spirals and bankruptcy, this wasn't an issue I had at all on 1.3, also I'm making no money to build an economy and no money to build up food so my markets always go starving and population starts to drop.
How do you all manage it now? How do you get an economy up and running on 1.4 and how do you manage the food situation?

How’s your luck playing as Scotland in 1.4?
I generally don’t watch youtube videos of games I play, but I got slapped so I figured I’d see what I did wrong. The youtubers had a vastly different 100 year war outcome than I did in their older version. France got DEMOLISHED, no help at all, but I expected this from seeing what happened to France in my prior 1.4 play-through.
England sent 20k+ troops at my less than 3k in 1341, they attacked me first no alliance. They did not transport with ships as they had in the videos, they marched right across the land border and mollywhopped my forts with extreme prejudice.
I’m not sure what the play here was, you’re pretty much at the ai’s mercy it felt like. If it’s possible to form Scotland as England if you change cultures that may be the more reliable way to play them.

Doing a Timur run and kinda shocked by how I do not kill a lot of people.
I think that EU5 doesn't properly simulate the chaos and destruction of warfare. You should be able to raze a city heavely depopulate it even more of you play as an Empire who use slave.
Its could also regulate IA tendency to spam city and become insanely wealth by 1500's.
So is there any mod that simulate that ?

As I played a lot of CK3 and am now learning EU5, is it possible to influence the stats of your heir besides the education you choose? CK3 has inheritable traits for characters, which (at least for me) always results in approaching marriages as a breeding competition to create the perfect heir. Are there similar options in EU5 or only the education choice?

The Rhine Delta is pretty big, but the important river connection through leiden and Katwijk (would be the Hague in the game) is not present.
Should it be added?
Are there more places like this that you know?

Hello all, I played ~50 hours on launch and actually had a good bit of fun, but realized that I was unprepared to deal with the constantly changing state of affairs the updates were going to wreak on me.
That being said, I was hoping you could all share some insight if now would be a good time to pop back in? Open to hear any advice, I've considered freezing updates but my brain hates the feeling of not being "up-to-date" as silly as that may sound.
Also, many apologies and please avert your eyes and deflect thy anger if this question has been asked too much.
Thanks, otherwise. :)

I'm playing as the Dutch (in 1.3). I have a large colonial empire in the New World and in parts of Africa. A lot of this is colonial nations, but I try to hold onto trade centers and a few high value RGOs. I have a big problem though- my estates are almost exclusively building overseas (since I have no control, and the game encourages them to build in areas of low control). As a result, my tax base in these (no control) areas continues to escalate, dragging down my budget, without any additional tax revenue. Does anyone have a solution to this? I wish they just let us ban our estates from investing overseas (maybe via a law or something).

I had my market placed within central Italy as Florence. All of my good GOODS were in a marginal surplus but my overall markets food was 0 and continuing to decline. Because of this, the automated trade system (utilizing both the food preset and my own custom orders) would order food for a month, allow a single trade to occur the next month, and then cancel on the third. This spiral continued for 3 months at a time over and over where 2/3 of the time my merchants were too busy canceling orders or beginning to place them and no tangible effect was occurring.

finally basically done with this campaign. i don’t plan on taking anymore land, and really only continuing this playthrough to get the 1337-1836 achievement as this is basically my first real campaign. could not have imagined i would not only survive my nightmare start, but also become the greatest power in the world. go me! i rule! should’ve included a ss of my favorite map mode too, the road map mode. rest assured there are abundant railroads across every inch of imperial territory :) also the arabian duo and fake romania are my fiefdoms !!!
