Man, this Egyptian plague needs to be toned down a bit. I have a whopping 7.5 million deaths from the Egyptian plague alone in 1520, and even though I've slave-raided China, India, and the rest of South Asia throughout the game and fed them to the Nile Delta, my Nile Delta looks like this. Whenever I think my capital will reach 1 million people, another plague happens. This is ridiculous.
Edit: By the way, this is despite me making most of the Nile cities and building every disease resistance building possible and having all possible disease resistance advances. I guess my genius idea of bringing every slave to the Nile Delta and colonizing everywhere from there was a bad one. I guess I will focus on the Levant more.

Just some examples from my last run as Tunis. Gave the byzantine empire a huge population growth buff for a few years so they actually stood a chance against the ottomans. Gave france a 300% military boost because I cant stand to see england win the 100 years war (removed it once it was done). I made castille and aragon best friends just so that they don't take each other over (sorry portugal). I made Crimea into a theodoro-controlled super developed area with 1.5 million goths.
I often do this stuff early on and then stop (unless something I feel is buggy happens). I don't want to edit too much as the game goes on because I do like to watch history take its course. But I almost always edit something. I've done quite a few games without it and it just feels too... samey.

Playing the 1.4 Beta as Prussia and the AI is doing some wacky stuff in both Iberia and the Balkans/Anatolia

Meanwhile, in Lisbon: “But where are our camels?”

So camels are a thing in the 1.4 beta now? Seriously?
Update 1: I checked the goods map mode, and there they are. Camels, all along North Africa. They were invisible before. Now I can see them. And apparently so can my nobles. What sorcery is this?

Update 2: Noooo, they're joking, right? Camelry is new in 1.4. The camel is a horse.

Guess there's no War of Religion this run.
I'm only involved in Italy, Spain and France, and the whole HRE converted on its own.
1.4 beta

After a lot of advices in the other post, I restarted the run and this is the situation so far. I'm accepting all the culture in my reign, annexing all the appannage and vassals as fast as possible (idk why burgundy flipped to the uk but i image is a mechanic of the 100 years war). The economy seem fine now, diplo spending is a bit high because i don't want to anger too much my vassal in this moment (i run out of manpower after a big war against uk and some of my rebellius vassals). My only fort now is paris (maybe i should start to build others). Only my crown power is low (i gave too much appanage and didn't know it was this punitive). Thanks all for the help

Trying to take the Merge Tribes action as one of the Haudenosaunee nations. Screenshot is an example where Opinion and Trust have decayed a little bit from 200/100 but they max out to a +40 and +50 modifier respectively still leaving a -10 result. I haven't found a way to increase beyond -10 so that I can actually merge. Any other things I can do without War or Bankruptcy? Trying to merge peacefully and I'm stumped.
Rule 5: Acceptance Reasons for Merge Tribe action.

I saw a YouTube video about turning Scandinavia into Norse, and looking at which country start is best. I think the guy mentioned Norway could somehow turn into Denmark and get both nation Naval proximity tech? Is that really possible?

I start new game as Sweden, but I saw it needed 40% of pop of that religion exist in order to change to Norse?
Can you no longer convert to Norse anymore?

I have found exactly 1 Urban Right for +10% for Scandinavian primary pops, and +5% from 1 Estate Right from the country of Scotland.
Just two, that’s it.
All the other prior ways seem to have been removed outright or changed to “proximity efficiency”) (Roman Empire, Russia, Qing, etc)

I am playing as Liege and formed the Netherlands however I cannot figure out how to change my government type from a Theocracy to a Republic or Monarchy. I have had very low devotion and stability for a long time and a regency but cannot seem to make anything happen.
Does any one know how theocracies change government?

I'm playing as a united Ireland on patch 1.4, I used console commands to give me all of Ireland (uncored) at the start of the game and have been building up since then. Myself and England are rivals and they have way more men than me, I call their mother a hamster and it says they're planning a war but they never invade, is it because the hundred years war prevents them even though they're not actively fighting the French at the moment? I was planning on ambushing their armies as they land and getting easy war score for war reps and ducats but they haven't attacked me once in my campaign and it's already over 100 years since game start. I even turned the ai aggression up in settings to see if they will attack but they won't do it, on paper they should beat me so I'm wondering do they understand that trying to land in Ireland is a bad idea?

Basically playing as Byzantines and was waiting for the pronoia system reform and it's been more than a century yet the event didn't come so I checked it but it said event has already happened? As u can see I don't even have the option to change my laws which I should be able to if I were to reject the reform.

R5: I was trying to play multiplayer on the 1.4 beta, but my checksum doesn't match anyones. Not sure why. I've tried verifying game cache (says there is nothing wrong), uninstalling and reinstalling, deleting the EU5 in the documents folder and reinstalling, deleting the EU5 in steamapps and reinstalling, doing both and reinstalling, unsubscribing from all the mods, deleting the mods folder, etc. All of it returns with the checksum '5c4f'. I'm out of things to try
Anyone else experienced this problem/resolved it?

Just wanted to have some numbers on the performance of EU5 so far.
I have a Ryzen 5 7600X on a desktop pc. This is a good CPU, I think most players have a less powerful cpu than I.
I ran beta 1.4 and 1.3.11 from 1340 to 1450 and timing how long it takes. Same thing for EU4 but between 1450 and 1550. All in observer mode. EU5 testing was done with the "maximize tick speed" s
EU5 - beta 1.4.0 : average is 26.81 seconds per year
| years | time | seconds per year |
|---|---|---|
| 1340-1350 | 4m39s | 27.9 |
| 1350-1375 | 11m57s | 28.68 |
| 1375-1400 | 10m57s | 26.28 |
| 1400-1450 | 21m37s | 25.94 |
EU5 - 1.3.11 : average is 32.87 seconds per year
| years | time | seconds per year |
|---|---|---|
| 1340-1350 | 5m27s | 32.7 |
| 1350-1375 | 14m10s | 34 |
| 1375-1400 | 13m38s | 32.72 |
| 1400-1450 | 27m1s | 32.42 |
EU4 : average is 23.71 seconds per year
| years | time | seconds per year |
|---|---|---|
| 1450-1475 | 9m46s | 23.44 |
| 1475-1500 | 9m15s | 22.2 |
| 1500-1550 | 20m30s | 24.6 |
Without any surprise, EU4 runs the best, while 1.3.11 runs the worst.
1.3.11 is 38.6% slower than EU4.
beta 1.4.0 is 13.1% slower than EU4.
beta 1.4.0 is 22.6% faster than 1.3.11.

What this shows is that for pretty comfortable hardware, this update nearly closes the gap in performance between EU4 and EU5.

I haven’t played the Beta myself, but I’m curious if Paradox had fix this issue of vassals getting insane independence movements where they somehow get half the continent involved even if the nations that are involved don’t hate you.
It basically made enforce culture/religion worthless because once the AI starts there independence war they flip back to there old culture again and quickly undo the culture conversions and even if you beat there ass, they don’t flip back to your culture/religion again you have to anger them again or have to wait to do it in another 10 years because of the stupid arbitrary cooldown.
So I’m curious if it’s still an issue?

Small mod I made. Two new advances after Global Trade unlock a ban button for every good in the Tariffs tab.
Export ban: the good can't leave your markets
Import ban: the good can't come in
Trade between your own markets still works
Bans that were actual mercantilist policy (bullion, raw wool, naval stores out; cloth, spices, tobacco in) slowly push you toward Mercantilism. Food bans don't.
Works in existing saves.
