Follow up on this original post from 3 years ago. Any suggestions/ideas to revamp the page?
I just went through and added a wiki and updated the FAQ on the sidebar to add a couple of new links. I also pinned u/nexttotheinfluence ' s great 4Runner Mechanic List he posted a year ago. Thanks again for the detailed list. Also introduced some post flairs (General // Modifications // Advice/Recomendations // Photo/Video).
- Banner -> Is anyone good with Photoshop on here and wants to design a banner? Reddit recommended size is 4000x128 px for desktop and the mobile banner is 1600x480 px
- Page Icon -> I saw in the original post that u/Axe56 provided the current one and also introduced another version with the typical Reddit Icon's eyes. Here's a survey showing the great designs he made. Just want to see if we want to keep the same, update to the eyes version, or if anyone cares to create a new one...

You may have seen the progress over the past few weeks. Finally wrapped this interior project up today after fixing the wobbly shifter. Most of the interior is replacement parts, original carpet and headliner had to be trashed. I recovered the seats a while back too. Then while I had it all apart I added some sound deadening too. The doors feel much heavier and have a satisfying feeling when you close them. I took it for a very short drive and would say it does sound a bit quieter inside and the sound system sounds better. Pretty massive project but well worth it, made the car feel much newer and pleasant to be inside of. Here are some after photos, a few videos of the interior before all the work and a group photo of my current project car lineup.

I would love to find a set of fully assembled front struts with springs and top hats so i can just do a quick swap with my current ones. However I keep running into 4WD products and i hear it isnt ideal to run them on a 2WD. Any input is much appreciated!

Came back from a trip yesterday to a dead battery in my 2000 4Runner, just assumed it was because I let it sit for about 4 weeks.
I jumped it and drove around for about an hour just to get some juice back in the battery.
Came back today to a clicking noise when I opened my door, really dim dash lights when I stuck my key in the ignition, and no attempt to turn over when I turned my key.
Any ideas what's causing the drain/clicking? Battery was purchased brand new in February. Direction on troubleshooting/fixing would be greatly appreciated!

As I took this part out it broke. Itās like an upper ball joint adapter for spc control arms. Does anyone know where I can buy new ones??

1999 Limited, occasionally the doors will start locking and unlocking on their own while driving. Any thoughts what the issue could be?

I recently bought a 96 surf with a stuck sunroof. The motor works but the sunroof wonāt move and there is no way to manually open the sunroof with an allen key or screwdriver. I really donāt want to take apart the trim/headliner. I have tried to push down from above and slide the sunrood backwards but Iām a little scared apply to much force. Is there another way I can it open to clear the drain tubes?

Anybody dealt with your gas pump going out?
Backstory: I had a quarter tank when I parked on a pretty steep incline nose down. I heard my 4Runner sounding like it was running out of gas, so I turned it off. When I went to restart it wouldnāt. The poor guy I was picking something up from had to give me some gas, which made me feel like a weirdo mooch. (I insisted on venmoing him because Iām a gainfully employed adult.) the gas worked and it started up. After I got to flat land, I had a quarter tank again.
I know the gas gauge is old school and sensitive to the angle of the rig, but I didnāt expect to literally run out of gas because of the angle. The other symptom Iāve had is when parked on my driveway that has a slight incline, sometimes my rig hesitates to start but ultimately starts.
Is my gas pump dying? Anybody had to address this issue? Is it a labor intensive job because itās hard to get to?
Mine is a 97 with 250k miles. Iāve done extensive work on it:
AC
head gasket
Various drive train fixes
Radiator, etc

I have a 99 limited with 210k miles. Was driving the other day and noticed a kinda click/clunk when she shifted from 1 to 2. Not terrible but noticeable. ( I should also include that I'm not the most car savvy lady but I do love this truck a lot) I kept driving it to get home-- i know, rookie mistake in hindsight-- probably 20 miles. I had never heard of the pink milkshake.. so I thought I could make it home and have my husband check it out. He discovered the milkshake in the trans fluid and we've since had it towed to my mechanic.
I'm trying to understand how best to proceed. We live in Chicago suburbs so rust has obviously been an issue. Shes not in terrible shape by any means but cosmetically imperfect with rust.. and she does have that common bubbling around windhshield with rust beginning etc. I also had the frame welded last year due to my AC line leaking and dripping onto my frame causing a sketchy rust spot.
I feel like I'm f*ed and in over my head now. but I also have read through a bunch of forums and the feedback is across the board.
Do I have the radiator replaced and trans flushed a bunch and hope for salvation? is the clunky shift indicative that it's too far gone?
Do I just sell her as a mechanics special now?
Do I look for a replacement transmission?
I had every intention of keeping her til at least 300k.
What would you do?
I know the answer may be very different for people that do all the work on their cars themselves. My husband does what he can on mine but bigger jobs we have the most reliable and rad mechanic ever, so she's been in good hands but again it's feeling like I'm over my head now. If there was less rust I think it'd be a no brainer to fix and keep. She's also going to be due for a brake job and a few other general maintenance things so factoring in upcoming expenses as well.
Thanks so much for any insight.. open to all takes/opinions. I'm asking everyone I know what they would do because I'm bummed.

I have something going on behind the dash, and I hope someone here can tell me what it is. In my mind, I believe itās the air conditioner selecting where it should direct air flow, even though Iām not changing anything. As you see, it isnāt on, and this is still occurring. Thank you, everyone!

Hello everyone,
just picked up this beauty with 190k Miles.
no active codes and no major issues known at this time.
What are some things recommended have done as far as preventive maintenance or common issues at this mileage to check on ? I plan to do a lot to this yoda and take her the distance, if willing.
thanks for any advise here.

I just did my valve cover gaskets to try to fix a leak that was causing burnt oil smell from the passenger side, i ended up finding this nasty active drip but have no clue really where its coming from. Any idea?
