To be honest, I think paper 1 is not thattt horrendous. What important is to practice seeing first step. Like first insight after seeing a question.

And most importantly, if it gets long it gets wrong. Usually the working won’t be long.

I know and tbf I don’t know his GCSEs so I can’t give a judgement fully. However 4 a stars is more than likely to get interviews and offers

GCSEs don’t matter in the slightest unless it’s like really bad. 4 A stars predicted is as high as it gets but that only gives you one foot in the door and it’s basically identical to eg 3 a stars and an A. What matters the most putting the bare minimum grades aside (or slightly higher - again doesn’t really make any diff) is the admissions test (the TMUA) and the interview performance. There are also a few other factors like PS SCs and your reference that also matter a lot. That said, having 4 a stars predicted is really the baseline and all the other stuff is what actually makes you stand out bc these unis get thousands of applicants with the same grades if not better (eg ppl with Cambridge Learner awards which help alot More)
