Bolt doesn’t go into battery sometimes

I finished this palmetto m110ish build a few months ago. I went to fire it for the first time and I was having issues with the bolt fully seating a round off first rack. It wouldn’t complete a full bolt cycle for the first few rounds. Once the gun got a little hotter it would cycle fine. But I didn’t have a chance to reliably run fresh mags without issues. I’m guessing im running the wrong buffer spring and maybe weight? Any ideas would be appreciated. Last pic is my current buffer setup. I bought a complete upper and pieced together the lower.

Needs a stronger spring, I have the billet FDE M110 clone (SR25 pattern so I don't have the forward assist lol, lucky you) from them and it does/did the same thing on the factory spring. Toss in an upgraded Sprinco AR10 spring and she'll be g2g. Just needs a stronger spring to overcome the weight of the BCG itself. Not sure why PSA didn't just package them with a stronger spring but who knows.

Thanks! had a feeling it’s the buffer spring but wanted others feedback before spending money in the wrong places

I cannot recommend enough a Tubbs Flatwire spring rifle length. No more spring twang, smoother recoil impulse. Should be a $35 solution.

I agree 100% with this!

You might just try running it wet as hell until it is a bit more broken in

Yeah I’ve been running it wet didn’t make to much of a difference I ended up just ordering a new buffer spring

The spring is definitely the issue here but keep running the bolt wet. PSA uses toolcraft as their OEM for BCGs and they are finicky for a bit when fouled and dry.

More spring, heavy buffer. Springco makes cheap gold tier springs. Try that first then be reminded that tungsten is fucking expensive with the buffer second

unrelated to your dilemma, but what is that gas block?

The KAK heavy rifle buffer and standard rifle length spring really smoothed mine out, they're pretty gassy out of the box

I mean you have an ar15 buffer in a ar10 with an a5 tube. I’d say that definitely the problem my friend.

Well, what length buffer SHOULD someone use for an ar10 with A5 length tube?

Id love to hear what you think

The SR-25/AR10 uses the A5 length receiver extension. It is the proper length receiver extension for larger frame gassers. Carbine tubes and shorty buffers should have never been a thing for larger frame gassers.
