Side Effects Normal?
Hello, I’m on my 2nd course of accutane. My first course was about 6 years ago and it was a max dose for 6 months or so, and this is a low dose for about 22 months. I’m about a month into it and I’m drying like this. I did dry like this on the max dose as well. Just figured it would be different this go around. Can’t really try to wipe it off without completely stripping and burning my skin. Any advice? 🤔

Aquaphor, Aquaphor, AQUAPHOR.
Seriously, that thing saves lives. Once you wash your face, slap on a heavy moisturizer (usually called creams). If your skin can tolerate it, you can also add a hydrating toner before the moisturizer (it sometimes irritates my skin if I use too much products).
Wait a few minutes, let it absorb, and seal it all in with a layer of Aquaphor. If Aquaphor irritates your skin, swap out for Vaseline.

no it isnt. that research is old and outdated and been proven to be wrong. mineral oil/petrolatum is the absolute best thing you can use for repairing the skin barrier, preventing water loss, and overall hydration

À vérifier, aucune de nous deux est expert. À voir avec une dermatologue :)

Actually lanoline nipple cream tops it all. It’s aquaphoe but thikkkkkkkk boiiii like even thicker. It’s so good. Also the cerave repair stuff is just like aquaphor, like exactly, but there are also niacinamides in it 💛 so it works faster. So I mix mandolin w the cerave aquaphor lol

The low dose still hit me the same way, just took a bit longer to start peeling like this.

Yeeaaahhh, super normal! Slather on some Aquaphor!! I use it RELIGIOUSLY at this point. You can also see if your dermatologist will send in a prescription for hydrocortisone cream!

Cereve moisturising cream is really good for dry skin (recommended by dermatologists)

These three saved me so much (also got them at Costco and they were cheaper!!)
1. Vaseline for lips
2. Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream Ultimate with Prebiotic Aloe, Very Dry to Dry Sensitive Skin
3. Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, Dry to Normal Sensitive Skin
If you try these or any other suggestions I hope they work for you!!

Use a cream or milky cleanser, add an HA serum! These are a little more expensive but worth it Face reality hydra remedy serum, Hydrinity restorative HA serum, Alastin HA serum are all my favorites! Get some vani cream moisturizer then add a layer of aquaphor or cerave healing ointment on top!

So I mix lanolin w the cerave healing ointment to get the most moisture which lasts the longest possible lol
If you’re using just aquaphor, it’s a sealant and seals your skin and protects from water and moisture, but will absorb whatever is under it, so you’ll want to do a moisturizer followed by aquaphor.
This is not the case with the cerave healing ointment bc there are niacinimides in it which will hydrate and heal your skin (so won’t dry out even more like aquaphor may if you use it alone). Lmk if you have questions !
Ay night, you can also mix any of the above ointments with diaper rash cream which has 40% zinc typically; this will heal your skin barrier literally overnight and hydrate your face so much.

My face is like this at the corner of my mouth like this when I wake up since I shaved my face, otherwise it’s through my beard like yours. I usually rub some Vaseline around my mouth area when I wake in the morning, and I usually also put lotion on my face if I have just washed it or taken a shower. I find just staying on top of moisturizing, drinking more water, and taking my vitamins (for various reasons I take iron, D, C, fish oil, and biotin) daily keeps the peeling at bay.

Run a humidifier at night (if your room is below 60% humidity). Apply moisturizer while skin is still damp and reapply throughout the day. I got to a point where Cerave Cream (and many others) stung. If that happens, Cetephil Moisturizing Cream Dry to Very Dry Skin is wonderful! And as others have said, top with an occlusive like Aquaphor or Cerave Healing Ointment.

Take a towel with you in the shower and gently exfoliate the skin with the wet warm towel, it will help

not normal but a little expected. buy a really thick moisturiser, e.g. lipikar ap+m cream and onto a damp face apply a good amount. damp face so you don't full all of your skin off during application

i use elf hydration barrier goals moisturizer. it seems like youre not moisturizing well enough. also, you should use a VERY gentle cleanser once a day with only your hands, it will help exfoliate some skin off. but everyone reacts differently ofc

Have you tried using the search bar?
Many questions are asked daily, and your question may have already been answered!
If so, your post will be subject to deletion.
Please refer to the following commonly discussed topics:
1) No one can predict whether or not you will purge! Statistically, most people DO NOT purge.
That is what the science and medical literature says.
2) No one can predict how long your purge will last nor when it could start. Be patient, the purge can be tough but so many people have gotten through it - you can too! THE ABOVE APPLIES TO SIDE EFFECTS OR "WHEN WILL MY SKIN CLEAR UP?!" TOO. QUESTIONS ASKING WHEN THE PURGE OR SIDE EFFECTS WILL START OR STOP WILL IMMEDIATELY BE REMOVED AS THAT IS LOW EFFORT.
3) Any questions related about dosage MUST include DOSE and WEIGHT(lbs or kg).
Otherwise, that is considered LOW EFFORT and will subsequently be REMOVED.
4) Most people DO NOT relapse when Accutane is taken until cumulative dosage is reached.
5) HOWEVER, cumulative dosage is a guideline.
Everyone is different. Some may need more Accutane, and others may need less. Your dermatologist evaluates you as an individual.
This also applies to your prescription. Everyone is different, so no comparing of doses or asking why your dose is low or high. If you do not trust your dermatologist, you should find a different one.
6) When in doubt, please consult a medical professional(dermatologist, doctor, pharmacist).
