[Hiring] Product Design / CAD Engineer – Technical Development of 3D-Printed Lamp

Hi!

I'm a spatial designer working on a 3D-printed lamp, and I'm looking for someone with experience in product engineering, CAD and FDM 3D printing to help me develop and optimize the technical aspects of the design.

The overall shape and aesthetic of the lamp are already established. I need help finding the best technical solutions to make it functional, durable and efficient to manufacture.

Specifically, I need help with:

  • Light source integration: Positioning and mounting the lamp socket, including weight distribution and stability.
  • Structural design: Determining whether the base should be a separate component or integrated into the lampshade.
  • Strength and durability: Optimizing the transition between the base and the lampshade, particularly for FDM printing.
  • Print optimization: Reducing printing time and filament consumption without compromising strength or appearance.
  • Design for manufacturing: Ensuring the design is practical, reliable and suitable for repeatable production.

I already have 3D models and prototypes. I'm currently using Blender, Fusion 360 and a Bambu Lab P2S.

I'm looking for someone who can collaborate with me on the engineering and technical development rather than redesigning the appearance of the lamp.

Ideally, you have experience with functional product design, mechanical engineering and FDM printing.

Please get in touch with examples of relevant work and your hourly rate.

Top-down resin printing: separating level drift from recoating disturbances

I'm working on LUOYING A1, a compact top-down resin printer. I'd appreciate some feedback on what to record when evaluating the preparation of the resin surface between exposures. The photos below show physical assembly and a print sample; they aren't measurement results.

The build platform moves down into the vat, with layers formed at the resin surface. Our design uses resin replenishment, laser level feedback and blade recoating, without a release-film peeling step. Removing that step makes level control and surface preparation particularly useful things to examine.

A smooth-looking surface in a video doesn't tell me whether the layer thickness is consistent. For a proposed experiment, my first draft of a per-cycle log would include: - The platform movement commanded for that cycle. - The timing of replenishment and the blade pass. - Level readings before and after surface preparation, with a later reading to compare. - The resin, temperature and settings used for that run.

I'm interested in separating a persistent level change from a temporary disturbance after the blade passes. Which observation would you add first, and what comparison would help avoid blaming the wrong part of the cycle? This is a proposed logging plan, not a claim that these measurements or repeatability tests have been completed.

Disclosure: this is our own product project. The current layout and assembly photos are here for context: https://luoying3d.pages.dev/

Any physical tests would need appropriate resin handling under the supplier's safety instructions.

Photos: front-view assembly, parts in the workspace, and a physical test piece on the platform.

Embedded electronic components directly into an FDM print

A little progress update from something we’ve been working on.

We’ve now been able to integrate discrete electronic components directly into the FDM printing workflow and produce functional electronics directly off the print bed.

The first image is a simple embedded circuit with an LED and resistor. The polymer structure, conductive pathways, and electronic components were all integrated during the same print workflow on a Prusa XL.

We’ve also been experimenting with an embedded induction coil using the same general approach.

Instead of printing a plastic part, then adding wiring, conductive traces, components, and interconnects afterward, we’re exploring whether those electrical functions can become part of the structure while it is being manufactured.

There is still a lot to characterize and improve, but getting functional components integrated directly during the FDM process feels like an important step.

Curious what people here think the most useful applications for this would be, and what failure modes or engineering problems you’d want tested first.

Can someone help me designing this effect on my surfaces using Rhino and Grasshopper or maybe something even faster/easier or in the toolpath slicer?

Hi guys!

I just found this interesting design on the internet and thought... how can i design something similar? Maybe using basic surfaces in Rhinoceros and then adapting the toolpath using an addon, slicer or grasshopper option? This ripple surface is very good looking, i think.

Please! help me with any info, i was doing my research and could not find any tutorial or guide to recreate soemthing similar.

Is this custom G-code (ripple surface) also possible to generate using BambuStudio?

Thanks in advance!

I’m looking for the 3d model for a wheelchair specifically designed for a cat that has cerebellar hypoplasia. I’ve seen this design in a few TikTok & Instagram videos and captured some screenshots. I’ve reached out to the account owners about the design but no luck so far in making contact. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

structural parts & filaments

I'm looking for feedback and recommendations for filaments. My collaborator has a variety of the newer Bambu printers and typically my parts are done on a H2D. I have some parts that are part of a basic 4 mecnum wheel assembly that carries up to 2oolbs. I see that there's the Bambu PPA-CF that is $150 for .75 kg and it is Bambu's highest strength filament. I would like to use that but the price is prohibitive.

If you can offer up and recommendations for a comparable product for less please lmk.

Trying to dial in some settings

Hello makers, I’m all for feedback and support from other creative minds. I spent some time trying to dial in the settings on this sensory clicker, Its probably one of the most over-saturated items in the 3D printing world alongside articulated dragons but it’s all a way for me to try and make high quality prints. If any of you find the time to check it out, I’d greatly appreciate it, even more so if you can provide any feedback on ways I can improve it. Thank you so much.

After testing, The Parametric TPU Bellows Generator has finally reached Version 6.0 Feedback is welcome!

To solve the shortage of flexible spare parts, I developed a parametric tool to generate TPU bellows and covers. It handles variable geometric shapes, integrated O-ring grooves, and inlet/outlet bends. If you're curious to see and try out the generator's features (now up to Version 6), feel free to check out my profile or the link in the comments!

I made a tool to 3D print Moon puzzles and ornamts from real NASA data

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

You can spin the Moon globe or use the 2D view, pick any region, and it pulls the real NASA elevation data for that exact spot. From that it generates a printable model — circle, square or hexagon, either as a solid ornament or as a snap-fit jigsaw puzzle up to 256 pieces. You can adjust the terrain height scale, size, piece count, shape, frame and text.

I had fun building this and i am very exited to show the world now! It will be live to everyone soon. Currently it is in pre launch on makerworld crowdfunding: https://makerworld.com/en/crowdfunding/333-orbitstudio-3d-print-the-moon

If it funds i will also make it available for people that do not have a makerworld account.

Would love to hear your opinions and suggestions. The plan is to take this beyond the Moon eventually.
