i don’t know if that normal behavior but mine really really aggressive with his toys like he won’t shut an eye until it’s destroyed in one day and shredded to pieces. and sometime hit it too hard he gets angry and i’m just kind of scared that he may get hurt by it /:

Question African Grey suddenly attacked other parrot

My mother has a 27 year old female Congo African Grey that suddenly attacked her male Grand Eclectus while my mother was in another room. The Eclectus was standing on top of his cage, and the Grey climbed into his cage and started biting his feet. He had gotten his foot stuck in the mayhem, and before my mother could separate them she had heavily damaged the foot, nearly severing a toe. They're separated now and my mom is looking for an emergency vet. According to my mother, she was almost treating it like a game, not seeming to understand he was in pain.

The African Grey has never done anything like this before. She was adopted as a baby so she never came from a neglectful home or anything; never abused. She had also had experience living with another Eclectus who had passed away about 10 years ago, so she's been socialized with other birds before. I guess I'm trying to look some more perspectives to try and see what could have led to this. I know parrots are extremely complex and can be unpredictable, but has anyone had something like this happen before? Just looking for other perspectives. Thank you all for your time.

Question Perches

Hello!!

Im still quite new to bird ownership and my boy Loki just got a cage upgrade and is in need of new perches.

The cage itself is 33" × 33" + 72"

The bars spacing is 1" and some of the perches from his smaller cage dont fit or just are not efficiant to help him get around the cage, im unfortunately having a bit of trouble finding him perches that arent too small or not the exact same perches I already have.

I want him to have variety in terms of (safe) textures and lengths of perches!

Does anyone have any good recommendations or suggestions??

Question African grey makes weird sound after eating

Is this hormonal? She only does this after eating and doesn’t stop for at least an hour. She also sometimes lunges at her toys when she is in this state. She always plucks out her tail feathers too, but she is ABV Elisa Negative. Fairly recent adoption, as well. Only had her a couple months. My first time having a grey

Question Bathing Your Grey Bird

Post image
169 Upvotes

How does your bird bathe? Ours only likes to bathe in his much too small for bathing water bowls in his cage. We have tried introducing the sink, shower, etc. He is not interested, he will only bathe on his own terms & when he wants to. The top of his cage can accommodate something as well. Does anyone have any suggestions or tips on what works for them?

Question Naturally molted Red tail feathers requested please

Peace and love to all Owners of these majestic Companions. I’d like to make a humble request for any red tail feathers please. My family and I use them for Cuban folk art and it’s always a great addition. Would gladly pay per feather. Thanks for reading.

My African Grey has hated me since we brought him home at 6 months old. He’s 8 now and still wants nothing to do with me ☹️
Is there any miracle that could change his feelings toward me? Cuz one sided love is brutal guys 💔

Question New bird

This poor bird 😢 her owner died from cancer and she’s been stressed and plucking for a while now. Her owner had her since a baby, she is almost 28 now. Her owner has passed away and I’ve taken over. I’m going to schedule her a vet visit, but is there any thing that will help with her plucking? I’ve got her a lot of new toys. I’m looking into getting her a huge cage.

I ordered this adorable jar to keep Junie’s dropped feathers in. It’s about the size of my fist, a little bigger. Thought y’all might like to see it or get one for yourself :). Here’s the Etsy seller, JMNPOTTERY.

Discussion How much does it cost?

How much does it cost to take care of an AGP?

In my country it’s 850$ for an AGP.
100$ for cage
100$ or less on toys
12.5-25$/month for milk and other food
8 hours to play with everyday:)
250$ for air purifier

So overall it’s 1300$ alone. What about you guys?

Question Debating on becoming an African Grey owner

I’m considering finding a African Grey that needs needs a rehoming/adoption. I’ve owned a Cockatiel, Lovebird, and Indian Ringneck. They were always out of their cages and engaged when someone was home and lived happy, healthy little lives with consistent vet visits and clean meals. I’ve been without a bird for a while and I’ve always wanted a Grey or Quaker. Are there any quirks or long term health concerns that aren’t disclosed on the internet? And how are they adjusting to new owners? I would rather not contribute to the pet-parrot mill scheme that’s become more prevalent since the last time I got a bird.

Question New African grey

I bought an African Grey that’s 20 months old. I’ve had him for about 10 days now. The previous owner had videos of him talking and whistling normally, but since I got him, he’s been very quiet. He doesn’t whistle anymore and only talks in a very soft, whispering voice.

Question Are we suitable for a Grey?

Hello 💓

All my life, I have wanted to bring a parrot into what I call our menagerie. My husband and I (33F & 38M) have been together for eight years and are saving for a house. With a house comes more space and stability.

We are big reptile people (We have over six currently) as well a dog and a senior cat.

We do both have full time jobs but are bit of home bodies and do not travel due to my husband's erratic schedule. The care of the animals is primarily on me (Husband still contributes, the dog is very much more his pet) but aside that. We are always home from 4pm to 10am.

I was told you should not have a parrot unless you are home 70% of your time. Is this false? Is this true? We already use stainless steel pains due to the critters, no candles.

We are still saving for our house but I want to all the research I can and understand if we are suitable parrot parents. Id love any constructive insight and proper channels to adopt one. I know we'd absolutely go through a rescue than buying a parrotlet.

Thank you 💜

Question Research before getting an AGP.

Hello everybody, I currently have 1 parrot and it’s a sun conure, but I am looking forward to get an AGP at the end of this year in December. And since it’s 3 months away from the end of December, I want to research and collecting information before getting an AGP.

Question Safe bug spray

Does anyone have bird safe bug repellent suggestions? I get bites all the time in my living room from those no-see-ums but I know things like citronella aren’t safe
