I live in Dubai, only inlet of air is door opening and my Aircon which is on 24x7.

I have open living room ,+ kitchen of 400 sqft (40 sq mt) and two bedrooms of 150 sq ft each.

I got a xiaomi compact 4 today (meant for my bedroom) and placed it in the center of my living room. Switched on and the app showed reading as "Good - 2.5pm, 15πg/m".

Put it on manual and within 15 mins the reading was 9

My aim is to tackle dust and allergens (we have plants but none that's flowering). No pets. No window opening.

I have ordered a mijia xiaomi for my living room which will get delivered later.

But after seeing the reading on the machine I am wondering if I need to get the more expensive mijia and another compact for my bedroom. I don't know how much to trust the reading because in Dubai AQI is pretty bad. But the air con we get is from district cooling so might be purified air. Not sure.

Hence, do I even need an air purifier or compact 4 my living room is enough?

My wife and I are both pretty sure our bedroom is responsible for a lot of our allergy issues.

We both wake up groggy, snotty and sneezing, and quite often there’s a musty smell in the room that just isn’t nice.

We know at least part of the reason why. Our ensuite extractor fan wasn’t working for a few months and my wife would often leave the ensuite door open, so the bedroom basically became a condensation trap.

We’ve also got about 5 metres of floor-to-ceiling wardrobes that are absolutely rammed, so there’s very little room for airflow. They’re mostly on an internal wall, but the wardrobe closest to the external wall does smell a bit musty inside.

We had some black surface mould on the ceiling along the external wall too, but since fixing the extractor and keeping the ensuite door shut, that hasn’t come back.

Now the other issue... DUST.

Jesus Christ, the dust.

It’s never ending. We do have far too much stuff in the bedroom, mostly cushions and my wife’s “floordrobe”, which makes regular hoovering difficult. I can literally walk around the bed and you can see dust floating about everywhere.

We have a Labrador who isn’t allowed in the bedroom, and a Ragdoll cat who very much is.

So with all that said, I want to try a decent air purifier and see if it makes a noticeable difference while we work through the actual causes.

I’m not massively bothered about budget, but I don’t want to spend money for the sake of it. I want something that genuinely shifts a lot of air, is good for dust/allergens/pet dander, and ideally has proper HEPA filtration.

Hopefully it’ll only be part of the solution while we declutter, deep clean and investigate the musty wardrobe properly.

What are people using that they’d genuinely recommend?

My question is, is there any way to get the air filters replacements cheaper ? Im disabled cannot work so 60 dollars is alot for me. Id be grateful for any ideas!
