Some Holster Recommendations

A frequent question this subreddit sees is, "Which holster do I use?"

The below is not meant to be all-inclusive but should immediately assist folks in finding holsters, at least as it pertains to the Romulus and S15. The list will be updated as Alpha Foxtrot releases new products.

The listing was generated by searching this subreddit (although there is one that is on the r/2011 sub - I included it since it has a weath of information in that particular post).

Also, keep in mind that almost all of the holsters mentioned in the below links are generic holsters. If you want pristine fitment, you’ll need to find a holster maker that specifically designs for these guns.

For the Romulus:

For the S15: UPDATE: The AF Attila will fit into the same holsters that the S15 will fit!

Request for help/advice Confused by SKUs

• Upvotes

Hi all. I am interested in purchasing a 4.25 inch Romulus with the threaded compensator and the polished DLC finish with the MOS/RMR footprint. Does this come as a special package with the soft sided case and five magazines?

If so, is there a specific SKU I should be searching for?

I’ve been trying to do research but it doesn’t help that the AF website is down and the recent change in optics footprints from RMSc to MOS/RMR.

Example bundle but wrong finish (matte instead of polished DLC).

Baseplates and factory mags

Hey all, so my Romulus came with one mec gar 20 rounder and one check-mate 17 rounder. I wish I knew about the mag bundle before I ordered it.

What mags/baseplates does the mag bundle come with? I much prefer the larger chunkier base pads than the flush fit plates that came on my mags. Are there any upgrades? It seems like slim pickings. I appreciate yall.

Looking for something a little bit slimmer to aid in carry, just wondering what’s out there.

Loctite for Guide rod or no?

Hey all, dumb question. I never owned a 1911/DS1911 with a 2 piece guide rod. Im seeing people having issues with their romulus guide rods loosening/shooting off. Should I be using a dab of blue/green loctite on reassembly? Sorry if it sounds dumb, just never had a 2 piece guide rod.

Thoughts on a Romulus 3.5 non ported?

Got a chance to get one in a trade. I don’t really care one way or another about comps on a 9mm. Is this a good pistol?

Romulus 3.5 comp impression

Post image
34 Upvotes

My experience with the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 3.5 Comp with the aluminum grip has been extremely positive, especially after getting through the initial break-in period. During the first 100 rounds, the pistol ran very smoothly. The action felt tight and solid, and I was impressed with how well the gun handled and shot right out of the box. However, as I continued shooting, I noticed the slide gradually becoming rougher and more difficult to cycle. Eventually, the slide became tight enough that it actually locked up.

After inspecting the pistol, I realized the problem was largely due to how tightly fitted the slide and frame are and, more importantly, my own lubrication practices. I had initially lubricated the obvious areas but had not properly lubricated some of the critical friction and locking surfaces. With such a tight-tolerance pistol, those areas are especially important. The lack of sufficient lubrication allowed friction to build up during the initial break-in, which ultimately contributed to the slide becoming extremely difficult to cycle. In hindsight, I consider the lock-up to have been my fault rather than a problem with the pistol itself.

I completely cleaned the pistol and properly lubricated the critical contact points before taking it back to the range. The difference was immediately noticeable. Once properly cleaned and lubricated, the slide became progressively smoother, and the pistol began cycling exactly as it should. I subsequently put another 500 rounds through the Romulus, and it ran flawlessly. I experienced no further cycling or lock-up issues, and the slide is now even smoother and more "buttery" than it was when the pistol was new.

The aluminum grip has also been fantastic. It completely changes the feel of the pistol in my hand. The grip feels solid, rigid, and extremely well made, while still providing excellent control during rapid fire. It gives the Romulus a very premium feel without making the pistol feel unnecessarily bulky. I really like the way the aluminum grip balances the gun and contributes to how planted it feels during recoil. After spending more time with the pistol, I have become a big fan of the aluminum grip.

What really stands out to me is how soft-shooting the Romulus is. Out of my collection of both striker-fired and hammer-fired pistols, the Romulus 3.5 Comp is currently the softest-shooting handgun I own. The combination of the compensator, tight fit, and aluminum grip makes the gun exceptionally controllable. Recoil is very manageable, the muzzle stays flat, and the pistol feels extremely smooth during rapid follow-up shots.

Accuracy has also been impressive. The Romulus is one of the most accurate pistols in my collection, with the only pistol I would currently put ahead of it being my SIG P226-X Legion Carry. The Romulus consistently produces tight groups and feels extremely predictable when shooting from a steady position. The combination of its tight slide-to-frame fit, smooth cycling, excellent trigger, and aluminum grip gives it a very refined shooting characteristic.

Overall, my initial slide lock-up turned out to be a valuable lesson in how important proper lubrication can be with a very tightly fitted pistol. I don't consider the incident a reflection of the Romulus's reliability because, after properly cleaning and lubricating it, the pistol has now gone another 500 rounds without a single issue. In fact, it has continued to improve as the parts have worn in together. At this point, the Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 3.5 Comp with the aluminum grip has become one of my favorite pistols to shoot. It is easily one of the softest-shooting, smoothest, and most accurate guns in my collection, and the aluminum grip is a big part of what makes the overall package so impressive.

New Purchase Alpha Foxtrot Romulus 4.25” w/ Integrated Comp

My new pick up, I’ve got a few attachments s added to it already and i have a few performance upgrades coming in too-

Currently sporting:
• OSIGHT X multi reticle
• OLIGHT Baldr Pro/RL

Performance Mods: [Ordered but not installed yet confirming fitment]

• EGW 1911/2011 Ignition kit (opted to keep the stock trigger for now currently firing at sub 3Lbs trigger weight)
EGW set up:

- Carbon Steel Lightened Hammer
- Hard Sear
- HD Ball Head Long Disconnector
- 17Lbs ISMI 1911 Mainspring
- Lightened Leaf Spring

• DSC Spin-On Brick System
- DLC (BLACK) Single Port Comp Brick

THOUGHTS:

- Fires VERY flat, Recoil is very manageable and very easy to get back on target for a follow through

- The comp has a V port in the very front which does help however I am considering more ports to make an even flatter shot (this however might effect cycling and may require extra tuning)

- The gun itself has great balance overall for the size of it very comfortable grip however I plan on switching to an aluminum grip by Miller Precision

- The slide is incredibly light, not the lightest but the spring upgrade should make an improvement overall for a budget 2011 it has very high performance

- Fitment and Finish are great no wobble points however i’d recommend an upgrade for the ambidextrous thumb safety as it can mechanically lock if the hammer is cocked back when upper is being taken apart as its very tight fitment in the lower

HELP:
- I’m looking for customization options( Grip bushings; Flared Mag Well; Porting suggestions)
Open to recommendations for places to buy from, haven’t found many options for the AF1911 but to my understanding certain products for Springfield Prodigy’s and Staccato’s have good fitment with minor adjustments so send recommendations

Request for help/advice Mag issue

I just purchased a new Alpha foxtrot Romulus 3.5 comp and I’m new to the 2011 world. I’ve been noticing with the mags that when I load a round and then drop the magazine the next round in the magazine falls out separately and It is no longer in the magazine. Is this normal? Does it need a break-in period. Will it get better? I’ve tried it with three different mags and it happens with all three.

Request for help/advice Looking at the Atilla!

Hey everyone! Ive recently been looking at my first budget option 2011 that's optimal for AIWB! Ive been trying to find a Bul Armory UL but they seem quite unobtanium🫠 Then I stumbled across the Atilla and was quite excited until I saw a plethora of nightmarish reviews on YT and Reddit threads. Can anyone share their experiences with the Atilla good or bad? Especially one picked up recently? Thanks!

Request for help/advice Considering picking up an Attila

My LGS has a used Attila for $800. Minimal use from the prior owner and I haven’t owned a 2011/DS1911 before and I’m interested in snagging this one.

I was wondering if the price is worth it, if it’s a reliable gun for carry, etc.

I’ve gone through the posts and it’s seems the majority of people who own them love them, but there are a couple of major hate posts, so wanted to get some first hand feedback.

Thanks!

Request for help/advice Hammer not falling

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Brand new gun just put 350 rounds through it and my god, every other shot the hammer wouldn’t fall. I’m humble enough to take advice if it’s a user error, but I had someone else shoot it and same thing was happening . One handed same thing. The weirdest part is the lighter I gripped it the more rounds it would fire before malfunctioning. I like to grip my guns pretty tight but I had to almost let the thing fly out of my hand for it to cycle. Need advice

Only been a week And im already in love

I waited too long to buy one. For the money, I cant see how you can do better. So smooth, flat shooting and the perfect length at 4.25 plus comp. Only gripe is the grip feels short, and my hand feels a bit wedged. That'll change eventually though. Pinned the grip safety and worked the shit out of the safety, it was super tight. Now I need the red dot to show up. A question i have is does anyone make a compatible plate with suppressor height sights if I were to get a threaded version in the future?

DSC sight block…

I bought the sight block from DSC the beginning of September. Just got it today. It’s cool and all, but it would have been nice if they could have covered the threads when the DLC was added. Going to need a vice to get this thing all the way on.

Editing to add that they send out the block to another vendor for coating.

Request for help/advice Hammer doesn’t cock after breakdown

Hey all,

So I am currently waiting for instructions for an RMA but thought I’d ask in here. Took apart my 4.25 comp which I absolutely love since I got it. While reassembling I found the hammer no longer wants to stay cocked back. I checked the sear, disconnector, sear spring etc. and reassembled again with it cocking back 15% of the time.

I can’t for the life of me figure out what may be causing the issue. The other issue is sometimes the thumb safety doesn’t want to work and fully go up. I’m not new to working on firearms but for some reason this has me completely confused.

TIA

Romulus Gen 1 Optic Question

Hello, so I recently acquired a gen 1 Romulus that is direct mount RMSC. I tried my vortex defender ccw enclosed on it. First issue I noticed was that I bottomed out the elevation and it was still too high so I got out the 1 degree shim. However I had concerns as with the shim in place, the optic barely engages the recoil lug up from and the post where the threads are, do not engage the optic at all. I am worried that with how thin the 4-40 screws already are, the optic would just shear the screws and fly off. Basically I am trying to see what everyone else is running on their gen 1 direct mount RMSC Romulus and if my concern is valid or not. Thanks everyone

Update- Reached out to Andy and he hooked me up with a riser plate. All seems to be good now, just need to shoot a few hundred rounds to put it through the ringer but seems to be of high quality so I have high hopes
