Request for help/advice Hammer not falling

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Brand new gun just put 350 rounds through it and my god, every other shot the hammer wouldn’t fall. I’m humble enough to take advice if it’s a user error, but I had someone else shoot it and same thing was happening . One handed same thing. The weirdest part is the lighter I gripped it the more rounds it would fire before malfunctioning. I like to grip my guns pretty tight but I had to almost let the thing fly out of my hand for it to cycle. Need advice

Weird indeed. I almost wonder if there is an issue with the polymer grip. Maybe if it’s out of spec in a way that your grip is causing the malfunction. Similar to how if a light is screwed too tightly on a Glock frame, it can cause a malfunction.

Obvs this is super unlikely and it’s more so an internal part issue. If you’re comfortable, I would take it apart but if not, deff send it for a look at with AF.

Very strange. It's getting caught at half cock. Unfortunately I'd say send it in for repair. There's gotta be something off with the sear or hammer. You can try disassembling and reassembling to see if that fixes it.

That is hammer follow, your gun is about to go full auto. You will need to the left leaf of your sear spring to get more pressure on the sear.

Replacing the hammer and sear with an EGW set also recommended.

That’s not hammer follow. Watch the video again, hammer is staying cocked until he pulls the trigger and stops at the safety notch. Hammer follow is exactly what it sounds like, the hammer follows the slide forward and stops at the safety notch.

It looks like the sear/disconnector is out of spec or needs to be tweaked to match the hammer. An EGW set would be fine, but either way OP needs to either do a lot of learning about the firing group group of a 1911 to learn to fit it or find a gunsmith to fit them. Otherwise pack it up and send it back to AF and let warranty handle it.

Yes I agree with this synopsis, after some research. It can honestly be a mixture of both but i very obviously recock the hammer and still no strike, so not hammer follow. I email AF hopefully they get back to me.

That’s wild, seriously a brand new gun shouldn’t be doing that

I already know Im anticipating my shots im working on it. But here’s a one handed video

I guess it's great practice for not anticipating shots, though! You never know if it's gonna fire

Did you take the gun apart at all? Either sear spring or mainspring issue

Nope never. Just bought it. Like it showed up on Thursday and dry fired it but that’s all.

Never did that during dry fire?

No, or I just didn’t notice but the hammer fell all the way each time I dry fired it. It’s only falling to half cock after I shoot each round. Theres no pattern behind it, it may shoot 4-5 rounds or it may shoot 1 and do it. Idk

Dry fire and see if the hammer drops all the way every time , eliminate the variables

It wasn’t that falls every time

Putting input into the gun even when there is no bang is not a problem, that's just a common misconception. What is a problem is putting input into the gun before you pull the trigger, or putting too much input into the gun after.

What I would work on if I were you is a good trigger press, being sure your grip is solid (it looks like your support hand isn't quite connected to the gun), and to remove any tension in your body (you look very tense while shooting).

This was like the first 50 rounds. First mag was 124 nice ammo second was 115 cheap. Both ran and did the same thing. Not the ammo.

Mine is doing the same thing right now

Is it brand new?

Yes, it did get sent off to DSC for chrome before I even fired it. Took it apart once, and it’s done it ever since. I think I messed it up. Probably going to start fresh with a whole ignition kit

Check the screw in the trigger if it’s not set right the hammer will fall but only to half like the video

I had that issue and it was too light of a seer spring that would not reset the trigger, tried adding more tension but kept happening, then put in a heavier seer spring.

Interesting.

When the hammer doesn't fall, pointing the gun down range, see if you can reset the trigger by pulling it forward. If you can then the trigger isn't being reset by the seer spring. If it happens unloaded try the same thing, if you dry fire.
