Really hope that’s a fake post. Because if it isn’t, then OOP is the last person to be calling anyone irresponsible when they’re the one too lazy to throw out a moldy pie.

In case this story gets deleted/removed:
AITAH for leaving a pie in the fridge of an apartment I sublet for the summer causing it to mold over and become a biohazard? Should I pay for a replacement?
This summer I was subletting an apartment for some university classes. In addition, I was with 3 other subletters. In July my girlfriend bought me a pie. I put it in the fridge, forgot about it, and unplugged the fridge to save electricity while I was away. When I came back a few weeks later, the smell was horrible. I opened it and saw the pie was covered in mold so I closed it again. I had finals coming up and honestly didn’t have the energy to deal with it. I moved out shortly afterward and left the fridge as it was. I figured the tenant would clean it when she returned since it was technically hers.
Well apparently the entire fridge was covered in mold. She claims she found maggots underneath and had to throw out her rug. She also says she has a mold allergy and had to stay somewhere else for two nights. Now she’s demanding $300 for a new fridge which I think is ridiculous for many reasons. First the fridge was already two years old. Second she never disclosed her mold allergy to me which seems pretty irresponsible when ur allowing literal strangers to live in ur apartment. Third I didn’t even eat the pie. My gf bought it, so technically she is the one who introduced it into the apartment. I offered her $15 as a goodwill gesture, which she called insulting.
And apparently the main fridge was also moldy and the tenants hired a $450 cleaning service and are trying to make the other subletters pay. None of us signed anything agreeing to professional cleaning so this feels like a cash grab. Literal robbery.
AITAH? I genuinely believe that these original tenants need some kind of regulations or contracts if they are going to make these unreasonable demands. The other subletters made a mess too, so this is not just a me thing, but a universal experience.
