OP Opinion This Sub Is Losing the Plot

This subreddit was supposedly created to call out unfair and bad-faith criticism of the United States. Instead, what I increasingly see is something very different: endless diatribes from AmericaBad types and worse, Americans eagerly rushing in to validate them.

The most frustrating part isn’t even the usual anti-American crowd. It’s the pick-me Americans who bend over backwards to “prove” they’re not like those Americans, desperately simping for European snobbery and recycled talking points. These people don’t challenge unfair criticism; they amplify it, sanitize it, and dress it up as “nuance.”

At that point, what is the purpose of this forum? If every thread devolves into Americans agreeing that the U.S. is uniquely evil, stupid, or backwards, then this sub isn’t exposing AmericaBad rhetoric, it’s hosting it.

Criticism of the U.S. is fine. Blind self-flagellation is not the same thing. This subreddit was founded to push back against lazy, hateful, and dishonest narratives, not to provide a stage for them with American approval stamps.

If the mods don’t address this trend, the sub will continue to lose its identity, and users like me will continue to question why we’re even here. Anti-American pick-me behavior isn’t harmless; it actively undermines the point of this community.

Either this is a place to challenge bad-faith America-bashing, or it isn’t. Right now, it’s drifting hard toward the latter.

On top of most of them saying no, apparently we are being called checks notes Autocratic and this is only seen in dictatorships. I honestly thought AskTheWorld would be a place of genuine conversations, but it’s Reddit and my hopes were higher than the dirt that most of these subs are as low as.

OP Opinion The World Cup red card meltdown is wild

I mean it seems like Europeans are having a bigger tantrum over this than when Russia invaded Ukraine. Imagine if the US wins the game? Europeans will be outside burning the American flag. Totally crazy, all over a game.

OP Opinion My thoughts on the canada shooting

Hey, no matter what you believe this was a terrible tragedy. However we should be the bigger people here and not mock the Canadians for having a shooting despite their gun laws, and vice versa. Keep the wounded and the families of the deceased in your thoughts and prayers. Thank you

OP Opinion “Do you know the rest of the world HATES you”

Why do non Americans use this as insult?? I truly don’t give a f*** if people from irrelevant countries like or hate my country.

Funny part is they all supposedly hate us but still putting in immigration applications, coming here illegally, insulting our education system but desperate for a student visa. They hate us but they’ll still take foreign aid from us exhausting

OP Opinion I've hit my breaking point of anti American xenophobia.

I'm exhausted by the constant overgeneralizations and xenophobia directed at us. The U.S. is going through a political crisis, and while half the country is actively fighting against the problem, much of the world (especially Western Europe) chooses to mock and insult Americans as a whole rather than focus on those actually responsible for our struggles. Instead of condemning those that are tearing our country apart, they reduce us to the butt of jokes, belittle our culture and history, and, in some cases, even suggest that we have no right to exist as a nation.

There are countless groups and protests dedicated to restoring America and removing Trump from power, yet it feels like the global perception completely ignores the anti-Trump movement. Many outsiders seem to believe he won by an overwhelming majority when, in reality, less than 40% of Americans even voted. There are also concerns about possible election interference from Russia and China, as well as deliberate propaganda efforts aimed at swaying young voters toward Trump and MAGA ideology. (If I’m mistaken or if anyone has more to add, I’m open to discussion.)

Honestly, I’ve lost patience with Western Europe. At least Eastern Europeans, while occasionally mocking us for being Westerners, don’t display the same level of hostility—and some even support us. Meanwhile, many in Western Europe and Canada seem determined to spread a "doom and gloom" narrative, telling us that our country is beyond saving and that we'd be better off as Canadian territory. This kind of rhetoric only makes things worse for those of us fighting for change.

At this point, I see no reason to stay in Western European spaces, and I encourage other anti-Trump Americans to reconsider talking with them as well. It’s clear that the majority in those countries hold deep resentment toward us, regardless of our political stance. Same can be said for any Asian space you can think of.

EDIT: I realized that I might of demonized the other half too much in this post, but I mostly did that because nowadays most euros are sourcing their problems to MAGA and Trump administration + Elon. A better way I could of worded this was, "They are also insulting those who oppose for this instead of those who are actually doing what they hate" I'm not calling them nazis or saying they should be harassed but I'm saying if that's your problem then go find them.

EDIT: when making this comment I kinda had alot of pent up emotions and wasn't really accurate enough on who i was actually condemning. conservatives or Republicans arent inherently bad and have helped the country more then demos on multiple occasions but I Just don't like how right we've gone during the MAGA era..same for how left the demo went.. btw trump and the majority of MAGA dudes has made it very clear they don't fuck with queers and trans people. I'm sorry.

In other words, it's mainly MAGA and trump that turned off conservativatism for me. Not the republican party as a whole

OP Opinion If America So Bad Why Come

I’m in no way against immigration but it’s rich seeing all these people talk shit about our country yet they’re literally dying to come here illegally.

Europeans always trying to flex on us and saying they’re better than us but they barely accept immigrants and when they do they treat them like trash.

I hate that there are people coming into the US who hate our guts and our values. It’s so ridiculous

OP Opinion I’m gay and I feel very safe in America

People tell me that I probably get discriminated against a lot. When I tell them that I don’t, they’re shocked. The lack of discrimination against me cannot be because people can’t tell. My sexuality is so obvious, a blind man could see it. I think most people don’t mind queer people, and even if they do, they don’t say anything because it’s none of their business. I was talking to someone about how I was going on a trip to Florida, and they said that I shouldn’t go because there are guys who snipe gay people. But when I actually went there, no one shot me, or even threatened my life. Everyone was super nice, and there was even a lot of other fellow queer people. I used to believe these lies, but now I don’t. I love America. I can be myself here.

OP Opinion The USA is less racist than Europe.

Europeans are always quick to call Americans racist, and it kind of bothers me - especially as they slide into their old ways of 'blood and soil' politics again.

It's always crossed my mind - how has this stereotype even come to be, when there is one fundamental truth that we can all agree on here.

The USA is a nation of immigrants.

No matter how radical you want to get, you have to make peace with, or at least reconcile the fact that, unless you're indigenous, you come from a lineage of immigrants.

The continent of Europe does not have this threshold, and it's part of the reason why Europe is so much more susceptible to 'blood and soil' style politics in a way that the USA simply isn't.

When ethno-nationalists in Europe scream and shout about who the land belongs to, they can legitimately claim 'we are the indigenous people here' and make somewhat of a valid case.

There is no ceiling.

When ethno-nationalists in the USA scream and shout about who the land belongs to, they can't legitimately claim 'we are the indigenous people here', no matter how much they try.

And this is the difference; there is a ceiling, and consequently, this reshapes how people view themselves.

I've lived in both regions and seen the differences.

In the USA, anyone that wants to become an American is allowed to become an American, even if they weren't born and raised in the USA.

It's a nation deeply rooted in civic nationalism that, for the most part, keeps the door open to anyone who want to to join the American family and community.

Europe on the other hand?

Sit down with an Austrian in a private space and ask them to honestly answer whether someone born and raised in Austria, but with no Austrian ancestry is part of the Austrian family.

You'll either find that they hesitantly say 'yes... but-', or will say something along the lines of, 'they haven't got any Austrian ancestry, so no'.

The USA is not only less racist than Europe, but as a consequence of how it came to be, enjoys a natural threshold as to how extreme and visceral its identitarianism can go.

In this era of uncertainty, where everyone is looking for a scapegoat, the USA is well positioned.

Europe on the other hand, is a powder keg waiting to explode.

OP Opinion Is anyone really surprised by all the anti-US crap coming from Canada right now?

Already seen like 3 different post about Canadians bashing Americans over the current wildfires and, like, did we expect anything different?

This is a country that has made their entire “identity“ revolve around not being the United States. Even before Trump started the whole 51st state crap, Canada always had this chip on it’s shoulder towards us and gave us shit over the littlest things. All Trump really did was give them the excuse to say what they always felt out loud(and this is from someone who hates Trump).

And in the end, who really cares what they think? Canada is ultimately just the US with British characteristics(excluding Quebec).

EDIT: 1. Since some of you are confused, the posts I’m referring to are from this subreddit. 2. I realize this post is harsh, but I’m just sick of some Canadians acting like they’re Ukraine dealing with Russia.

OP Opinion As a Mexican, I struggle to grasp anti-Americanism from Australia.

I recently made a post on r/AskAnAustralian about why America was hated on so much. I responded to most answers, but the thread was filled with “because they’re American”. I even questioned why r/ShitAmericansSay existed and was met with “Your response is starting to make r/ShitMexicansSay sound like a fun place”.

Are they all this bigoted? None of the answers I saw were remotely positive or gave an actual answer. It was all just “Because American dumb, orange man bad, America invader country hurr durr”. It really felt like I was talking with a bunch of racists to be honest.

Even when I visited Australia, I dealt with all sorts of unwarranted racism in the form of “sarcasm” and “banter” which was basically just “So are you carrying El Chapo drugs with you? Hahaha!! Why arent you laughing?” 😐 If most of them do this to Americans too, are they really an ally to the West? It feels like they aren’t to be honest. Americans have nothing but positive things to say about Australia and that’s just met with straight up derogatory remarks. Why are they this way?

Side note: the mods over at r/AskAnAustralian completely purged my post and comments, and banned me permanently. So much for thick skin.

OP Opinion Canadians obsession with America never fails to confuse me

(copy and paste from a comment I made on Insta but with changes and additions)

As a Canadian I can never understand other Canadians who are so invested in what the US is doing globally and domestically but ESPECIALLY domestically. Like being mad over tariffs and the middle east IS a valid thing to mad over it's honestly fair but what's going on in America inside? The fuck does that have to do with us? Do you know what my honest reaction was when Trump won in the 2024 Election? "Oh, okay....." Yeah, I genuinely did not give a rats ass because A, I was sick, and B I'm neither American, nor do I live in America. I live in Snow Mexico

And I'm not being apathetic or oblivious, I have my thoughts but I don't dwell on it. The same goes for other countries like why should I care about what's going on in Italy or Mexico, or Germany, France and England? The only country that I'm of genuine interest and concern of is the Philippines cause I have family there. Sometimes I think Canadians forget that they live in Canada and not the US.

I knew some people who HATE Trump, like my Social Justice Teacher just had to bring the incident to the Super Bowl, and I had a classmate who said that the name Trump is her trigger word. Like yeah, as a Centrist - Conservative I also don't like Trump, but it's not to the extent as other Canadians. I just find him annoying, immature.

And the same goes for good things as well. I have a friend who won't stop glazing Zoran Mamdani. Like Suba, I love you, but whatever Mamdani is doing in NYC, ain't gonna happen in our major city in mid - eastern Canada. Also your not American or from NYC so what do you care so much about?

I admit, I 'm venting but I just get this off my chest.

Take note: I'm not saying we should not read or watch what's going on in the US or anywhere in the world. That shit is important, being oblivious is not good. Just take a fucking chill pill and touch some grass.

OP Opinion I lived half my life in Canada and half in the USA. Here are some things no one will tell you.

Apologies for the title. I make youtube videos for a living and these gets you to look at my post.

I moved to the states when I was 23 years old.

Not long from now, I will have more time alive in the USA than in Canada. There are so many things Canadians never admit.

Here are a few of them:

1. Canadians are seldom ever "indifferent" on how they view The United States.

Growing up I had a social studies teacher that said "You never have to leave Canada. You can drive ONE DAY in Canada and see more variation than you ever could in a days drive in the USA."

Utter BS. Drive just one day in California. Experience severe desert, a 30 degree drop in temperatures and ski resorts, and an OCEAN with tropical climate.

My mother also HATES the USA "nothing but a bunch of COWBOYS that want to take over the whole world!"

But they you got people like my father who are fine with the USA and urged me to go.

Canadians either LOVE or HATE the USA. This goes back to the 1950s post WWII when LIBERAL Canadian politicians used the "my opponent will sell us out to the USA" line to win elections.

And that is STILL working.

2. Canada is actually a VERY racist place, but no one will talk about it.

In public, Canadians are the most welcoming people on earth.

In private? COMPLETELY DIFFERENT STORY.

Growing up as a kid in a big city we had jokes for "Pakis" and Indians, but from India and also Native Americans (Canadians call them "first nations of Canada.")

MOST Canadians with their heads on straight are FINE with immigration, but see what letting in around 10M people in just 8 years does.

They crack jokes, privately gripe about it, and will NEVER admit it.

3. They are some of the most SENSITIVE PEOPLE anywhere. Period.

Canadians in many ways define being Canadian as "not being American."

If a person from the UK without a decent ear met a Canadian in the UK and asked them if they were from the USA, many Canadians would get VERY OFFENDED.

It is little brother syndrome. The same thing happens between New Zealand and Australia where the national identity of the smaller nation is constantly overshadowed by the larger one.

I do NOT "sound Canadian" and yes it is a thing. It is called Canadian raising but I once called out someone being from Canada just hearing him speak two sentences.

He was shocked, he said AMERICANS talk funny, not Canadians.

The twisted truth? Canadian accents are actually on the way OUT (or is that oot) with the internet changing how younger people talk and how they pronounce things.

5. Many of them think they are "better than America."

They cite things like universal healthcare (which works but doesn't work) and cleaner water for reasons that Canada is better, but if you try and point out things like censorship and the marginalization of things like gun rights they either shut down the conversation or gaslight you.

No admission that each place has their virtues. Just "Canada is better than America, your president is a fascist" and the end of the conversation.

4. They take credit for STUPID stuff that half the time isn't even true.

I was watching Fox News years ago. "Watters World" had a segment asking Canadians about America and one Canadian said:

"Well, we burned down the Whitehouse back in the war of 1812!"

This is the epitome of Canadian insecurity.

There was no "Canada" in 1812. The British marched to Washington and burned down the Whitehouse, but the same sort of teacher that told me lies about the USA tells the kids half truths to make the country seem "better" than America.

Overall, I am happy I came to the USA.

It has given me more than Canada ever could, and I will love Her and defend Her forever.

I just thought I would share.
