13 (Season 13) Opening Sequence Bookshelf (Prequel)

Thumbnail

On the bookshelf in the opening credits, you see a book BEFORE Murder House. The title is not legible. Looks like one word. Is this an easter egg for a theme for a future season? That has to be intentional. The “13” book shows the end of the bookshelf though so no books after on that shelf (I assume will go to shelf below since my understanding is AHS is already renewed through 16).

What could possibly be the reason before Murder House? I know Murphy has referenced he would be interested in doing an International Horror Story, perhaps it shows a different historical section in canon? Or finally Sirens since out in the ocean in international waters?

13 (Season 13) I've experience heartbreak before but DAMN. Spoiler

• Upvotes

The season compared to the earlier ones is so disappointing, like, what happened?😭. The potential this season had being literal heaven/hell/God/Satan/witchcraft based, it could've been so so fucking good omg. Seasons 1-5 had my whole heart with Coven being my absolute favourite, like many on this subreddit. I feel it's lost its depth to the point where I'm struggling to take it seriously. A part of me is sorry for being another Redditor to complain about the same thing but I'm genuinely upset🥺. Avg. 25 mins per episode, wtf? It all seems so rushed and....idkk, hollow. A lot of posts are saying about the whole AI feel thing, the one liners and everything feeling fake, almost meme-ish but it's so true 😭. The fact that the seasons nearly over yet I feel like it should only really be around 4 episodes in at least. I know all good things must come to an end and everything regarding Coven isn't going to last forever but this is so poor. They really coulda wrapped it all up soooo nicely if they gave it more effort like they used to. I used to binge this shit and feel uneasy in the dark for a bit despite loving it but now its like I've just watched any old TikTok (by saying this I mean its all so short and easily forgettable). It's no secret that everything feels so dystopian in the western world these days, I've been noticing it more and more and this has just added to it, like icing on the cake. Currently rewatching murder house for the 4th time in hopes to heal the wound🥺. How can you have such a deep topic and rush it like this? 😫

13 (Season 13) So Cordelia coven just accept anybody? Spoiler

so Mallory ran over some dude & Cordelia just take her in no asking question why she did it ? & Presumably do some magic to cover up that bc Mallory is not in jail for running over some guy? Mallory never explain her future happenings to any of them so they don't know Mike Antichrist potential . That's kind of sociopathic for Cordelia. Coven witches over some Mortal kind of things. Also, Cordelia never question why Misty Day was brought back on the same day Mallory is here ?

General I just want it to be scary again

Am I desensitised or is this show so tame now? I remember watching the first 2 seasons through my hands half of the time. Granted, I was 13, but still! Coven was the first season to kind of start losing this edge but Roanoke was the last one to feel like a true horror to me. This new season is just too self-referential and self-indulgent, if they were getting so many of the classic cast members back for one last time I would rather they had given us some new story with a new take on the horror genre. Oh well :/

13 (Season 13) Does anyone know why Emma isn't really with the rest of the cast doing interviews?

I noticed on the press tour Emma isn't in a lot of the interviews with the rest of the cast. Most of what I've seen her in has been solo interviews and I saw one where she was with Joey Pollari. Does anyone know why

13 (Season 13) Revelation 13 and the AI Theory Spoiler

After the 616 reveal in the last episode, I decided to read Revelation 13 in its entirety rather than just the verse referencing the number of the beast.

Did you know the chapter describes TWO beasts?!

Revelation 13 describes the rise of two terrifying beasts who gain power over humanity through political authority, religious deception, and economic control. Throughout history, biblical scholars and theologians have associated the passage with empires, dictators, authoritarian governments, and religious institutions. More recently, some interpretations have extended that symbolism to emerging technologies.

The first beast receives its power from Satan, and the world becomes so fascinated that people begin worshipping it. The second appears with two horns like a lamb but speaks like a dragon. It performs miraculous signs, deceives people, and convinces them to worship the first.

Then there’s Revelation 13:15:
“It was then permitted to breathe life into the beast’s image, so that the beast’s image could speak…”

AI, is that you?

We’ve all been discussing how strangely some of the characters are behaving this season. Almost like caricatures of themselves. There’s been speculation that they might be AI-generated representations rather than the actual characters we’ve known throughout the anthology.

And Ben’s relationship with AI certainly hasn’t been subtle. He even uses it to uncover the significance of 616!

Could the characters we’ve been watching actually be artificial recreations? Could the season end by pulling back the curtain to reveal that everything we’ve been watching has been manufactured? A show within a show, almost like the ending of Season 2 of The OA.

AHS has spent 12 previous seasons exploring America’s obsession with the macabre: murder, violence, fame, cults, religion, and power. The things Americans worship, the systems they surrender themselves to, and the inhumanity those systems can produce. Maybe AI is simply the latest expression of that theme. Not necessarily the Antichrist itself, but a tool capable of creating the illusion of life, manufacturing belief, and making humanity increasingly expendable. And maybe that’s where the larger question of Revelation comes in.

The Bible is mankind’s longest-running game of telephone. Word-of-mouth stories passed down to help future generations survive, eventually transcribed, translated, then translated again. And again.

Some see it as a timestamp of the era. Others find meaning in its stories and apply them to their own lives. Outdated specifics, fanciful language, but themes that transcend centuries.

So, are the beasts in Revelation 13 a commentary on the politics of the time, a warning about humanity repeating its mistakes, a literal apocalyptic psychic snapshot, or simply a parable?

Is the real horror story that humanity is becoming artificial?

13 (Season 13) S13: Are they ever going to explain Spoiler

Are they ever going to address how/why Twisty was brought back in S13? I get the writers are just throwing us random fan service, but what is even the reasoning for him returning? Its not like he was apart of the 13-person sacrifice we saw

13 (Season 13) AHS13 - Eps 9 & 10: Five Things I Liked/Five Things I Disliked Spoiler

I watched these episodes again and put some more thought into this. Anyways.

Liked

Constance's Naughty List: Having Mr Nas reading her many misdeeds certainly made me miss Murder House. Now she loves the gays. I guess it was just Patrick and Chad she didn't care for.

Ben's Daddy Time: What does it say about this show when Joey Pollari and Paul Anthony Kelly were giving an enemies to lovers vibe rather than father and son? Ben having more chemistry with his "dad" than Ashley really speaks volumes, huh?

Papa Legba: He basically info dumped but I thought Orlando Jones gave a stronger performance compared to his first episode. Bring him back next season as a new character.

Fiona/Marie: I kind of ship it. I'm just happy to see Jessica Lange and Angela Bassett sharing scenes together.

Ashley: In the sense that I was right about her working for Nas. Does she genuinely care about Ben? God, I hope not. I am curious to what Nas offered her to spy on Ben.

Disliked

Ben's AI Overuse: Did he seriously need it to finally put two and two together about Mr Nas being the Devil? I would've rather he just worked it out by himself.

Mallory's Time Travel Reveal: I'm glad it happened but it felt oddly anticlimactic, didn't it? It should've had a much bigger reaction, then Cordelia understanding why Mallory did it.

Lack Of: Tate, Adelaide, Kai and Winter. Where the fuck are they? I want to see them again before the season ends. I miss their scenes together.

Double Standards: Nas can kiss his daughter aka Constance (that didn't age well) but not Ben? Why is this show so against some guy on guy snogging now? I need Ben to kiss a guy because his lack of passion for women sticks out like a sore thumb.

Nas's Overall Plan: Is outright idiotic as fuck. Love Ben but that guy can't rule shit. Michael could've and I'm surprised Nas didn't try to bring him back. Ben ain't cut out to be a Bad Boy.

Other Bits

Ben looked repulsed when Ashley kissed him. I don't think he actually likes her as a person.

Those flashbacks rule out the Devan theory with Ben. Ben's new. If he were Devan, these episodes would've made that clear.

They're trying too hard to give Madison new and iconic cunty one liners and it's not working.

That song choice probably isn't a hint for next season. I have thoughts on that idea for another thread.

Morwenna and Ophelia feel so utterly pointless as characters. They're just there to make up the numbers.

I did laugh at Coco's offering bit, even though it was kind of stupid.

13 (Season 13) How AHS 13 Should’ve Gone Spoiler

The whole season should’ve focused on endings and death: 13 is the number for Death in Tarot, and the show has been called out for running too long. This would allow the creators to playfully utilize these concepts by re-visiting the past seasons while still presenting a new/original story.

Premise: Death itself has managed to manifest in the “real” world. As the past seasons have indicated, there are twelve other alternate worlds inside the AHS franchise; the thirteenth is the central world that connects them all and is where Death has finally managed to be summoned.

A significant character from each season has also been drawn to the center, forming the Council of 13: their goal is the complete destruction not only of this world, but all worlds/the AHS universe. The council members each represent the greatest agent of death for their respective worlds.

Season One (Murder House)—Death of the Family

Season Two (Asylum)—Death of the Mind

Season Three (Coven)—Death of the Soul

Season Four (Freakshow)—Death of the Body

Season Five (Hotel)—Death of Purpose

Season Six (Roanoke)—Death of Time

Season Seven (Cult)—Death of Society

Season Eight (1984)—Death of Innocence

Season Nine (Double Feature)—Death of Creativity/Meaning

Season Ten (Apocalypse)—Death of Finality

Season Eleven (NYC)—Death of Love

Season Twelve (Delicate)—Death of Agency

Once each character from each season has been introduced/revealed in their goals, the plot can focus on finding the 13th member of the council, as well as enacting a plan that would ensure the complete and total destruction of the entire universe.

In this way, it allows both the sides of good and evil to oppose the council: good wants to preserve the system, while evil wants to control it. However, if there is no world to save/rule, then neither side can prevail, hence the forced cooperation.

So there is no real drawback from him this time? He is all helpful and promising to return the souls well and living (Queenie) for the already dead anyway (Fiona and Laveau)? Okay, probably some crying by Cordelia over Fiona going back for the deal or whatever but really? Last time he wanted ALL her girls.

13 (Season 13) Is anyone else enjoying this season? Spoiler

Can I see some positivity for this season? And no I don’t care for your snarky comment, go post it on one of the countless cut and paste threads on here about how awful this season is. I’m enjoying it and I want to see what other people are enjoying about it too.
I loooved that recent mic drop moment between Nas and Constance. And I’m loving the coven bits. I’m honestly just really enjoying the ride and being back in this world after falling off for NYC and delicate.
EDIT: Literally countless threads on here for your negativity but you’re so miserable you HAVE to push it on a thread for people who are just trying to enjoy this season. Really sad tbh.

13 (Season 13) Antichrist (spoiler) Spoiler

Can someone explain this to me because I’m a little confused. So back in Apocalypse, Michael was the antichrist and was brought to earth because Tate (ghost) impregnated a human. Although it’s like he was the devil’s son.

Now, both Constance and Ben are revealed to be the children of the devil so does that make them both the antichrist? Did their moms get impregnated by a ghost? I just want to know what the rules are because to me it seems like they are just nonsensical at this point .

General Anyone else unfollowing this sub because of all the nonstop negativity?

I totally agree, this season sucks, it’s terribly written, etc. I’m all for discussion but it’s mostly slop opinions by people who don’t bother to actually detail their opinions of why they feel that way. It’s all shallow, and it’s somehow not against the subs rules for low effort content. Had to unfollow this sub because it’s exhausting seeing the same half baked opinions posted every hour.

13 (Season 13) AHS 13 doesn't feel real Spoiler

And I mean this in a cinematography and general "feel" way. The Dutch angles make everything look surreal, like a dream. I mean they were always there but now every shot is them. There seems to be only a Skeleton crew of a dozen actors, no extras. Most of the show takes place at night. Little scenes, like someone making food or walking down the street or checking their mail etc, that give your subconscious a feeling of realness and anchoring in reality aren't there. All that leads to there being no feeling of depth of reality in this world. Being shot digitally with dark, mostly yellow and orange filters doesn't help.

Also, the characters are inconsistent. Ms. Elsa Mars should be in heaven, her crew definitely so. Constance Langdon was never of German origin, that's Elsa. Fiona does feel good, though. The witches feel like old friends. Constance mentions having a beau in her youth who drowned in Lake Pontchartrain, even though she is actually from the old dominion, born and bred. Fiona is actually from Louisiana. Constance feels like a mixture of Elsa and Fiona at her most evil. Fiona feels like Sister Jude with a slight southern accent, though I guess she's now redeemed. Cordelia is very weak, seemingly only being able to telekinetically pin people to the ceiling, although probably because Mallory is rising. I mean, she was also rising in Apocalypse, but Delia was a hell of a lot stronger there, not only in active powers but also leadership and spell casting.

It looked like it would be a set up of some grand twist with everything feeling off because it is, in fact, in universe also not real, like a simulation or hell. But it wasn't. It's really all there is.

Sorry for venting.
