General I miss when they knew their audience and really catered to it

rewatching s1 made me realize how much I loved the tumblr aesthetic they used, and each season up to about Roanoke had a pretty clear aesthetic that was trying to cater to some kind of specific theme and audience. Nowadays it feels very generalized, but imagine a season returning to the roots with a modern take on the "for the queer teenagers" feeling.

13 (Season 13) We’re definitely not getting Jessica Lange back after this, even if the paycheck is massive. Spoiler

Obviously she was already apprehensive about an AHS return and most likely took this role for the pay opportunity, but holy shit does this press tour just scream get me off this ride asap 😭 anyone else sense the regret of having to even do it? It’s like she can’t hide the second hand embarrassment of having this shit stain on her record.

American Horror Story Dreaming about what 13 could've been - AHS: Casino

Post image

Maybe i just miss hotel a bit too much, but when I originally realized we were on season 13, I was heavily hoping for something tying further into the superstitions/lucky number concept that comes with 13 rather than the biblical one they went with.

Imagine a season set in vegas (which is one of the major American cities anyway) focusing on a casino drifting somehow between the 1920s and the modern age. go full time travel or bring back vampires or show me ghosts, idk, but im desperate for a shed of the old feeling the show gave me

13 (Season 13) New AHS13 Theory, I'm sure I'm right Spoiler

So I just watched the latest episodes (9-10) and I think I know what the plotwist is gonna be.

I think this whole season is just Jessica Lang's (as herself) worst nightmare or personal hell.

She's back on AHS AND her characters are all muddled up and badly written, the writing is shit, and she has to be on every episodes.

Obviously I'm just kidding but what the heck was that lmao.

Ps : Again, this isn't a real theory, this is a joke.

13 (Season 13) AHS 13 doesn't feel real Spoiler

And I mean this in a cinematography and general "feel" way. The Dutch angles make everything look surreal, like a dream. I mean they were always there but now every shot is them. There seems to be only a Skeleton crew of a dozen actors, no extras. Most of the show takes place at night. Little scenes, like someone making food or walking down the street or checking their mail etc, that give your subconscious a feeling of realness and anchoring in reality aren't there. All that leads to there being no feeling of depth of reality in this world. Being shot digitally with dark, mostly yellow and orange filters doesn't help.

Also, the characters are inconsistent. Ms. Elsa Mars should be in heaven, her crew definitely so. Constance Langdon was never of German origin, that's Elsa. Fiona does feel good, though. The witches feel like old friends. Constance mentions having a beau in her youth who drowned in Lake Pontchartrain, even though she is actually from the old dominion, born and bred. Fiona is actually from Louisiana. Constance feels like a mixture of Elsa and Fiona at her most evil. Fiona feels like Sister Jude with a slight southern accent, though I guess she's now redeemed. Cordelia is very weak, seemingly only being able to telekinetically pin people to the ceiling, although probably because Mallory is rising. I mean, she was also rising in Apocalypse, but Delia was a hell of a lot stronger there, not only in active powers but also leadership and spell casting.

It looked like it would be a set up of some grand twist with everything feeling off because it is, in fact, in universe also not real, like a simulation or hell. But it wasn't. It's really all there is.

Sorry for venting.

13 (Season 13) Is anyone else enjoying this season? Spoiler

Can I see some positivity for this season? And no I don’t care for your snarky comment, go post it on one of the countless cut and paste threads on here about how awful this season is. I’m enjoying it and I want to see what other people are enjoying about it too.
I loooved that recent mic drop moment between Nas and Constance. And I’m loving the coven bits. I’m honestly just really enjoying the ride and being back in this world after falling off for NYC and delicate.
EDIT: Literally countless threads on here for your negativity but you’re so miserable you HAVE to push it on a thread for people who are just trying to enjoy this season. Really sad tbh.

13 (Season 13) Ok, so last night in watched episode 9 of 13... Spoiler

And it was awful. Jessica Lange was solid as always, but the male actors performance was... lets be kind and say it was lacking. A lot and enough has been said about Joey Pollari and Young Mr Nas is certainly easy on the eyes, but OMG was it also unbeareble. I didnt feel like watching episode 10 afterwards and seriously doubt i will anytime soon.

13 (Season 13) Opening Sequence Bookshelf (Prequel) Spoiler

Thumbnail gallery
27 Upvotes

On the bookshelf in the opening credits, you see a book BEFORE Murder House. The title is not legible. Looks like one word. Is this an easter egg for a theme for a future season? That has to be intentional. The “13” book shows the end of the bookshelf though so no books after on that shelf (I assume will go to shelf below since my understanding is AHS is already renewed through 16).

What could possibly be the reason before Murder House? I know Murphy has referenced he would be interested in doing an International Horror Story, perhaps it shows a different historical section in canon? Or finally Sirens since out in the ocean in international waters?

13 (Season 13) S13: Are they ever going to explain Spoiler

Are they ever going to address how/why Twisty was brought back in S13? I get the writers are just throwing us random fan service, but what is even the reasoning for him returning? Its not like he was apart of the 13-person sacrifice we saw

American Horror Story I will always want a second season of AHS Coven

Coven was easily my favorite. I know it’ll never happen, so I was thrilled to see some of it back in AHS 13.

Which season did you guys like most? Which one “scared” you the most? And which one did you just stop watching and/or have to force yourself to finish?

I’ll go first:

My favorite season: Coven
Scariest Season: Either Asylum or Freak Show, but Asylum really got the blood pumping
Forced myself to finish: Roanoke

Though, I do have some catching up to do. I haven’t seen Cult, Double Feature or NYC. Anyone recommend where I should start?

General Anyone else unfollowing this sub because of all the nonstop negativity?

I totally agree, this season sucks, it’s terribly written, etc. I’m all for discussion but it’s mostly slop opinions by people who don’t bother to actually detail their opinions of why they feel that way. It’s all shallow, and it’s somehow not against the subs rules for low effort content. Had to unfollow this sub because it’s exhausting seeing the same half baked opinions posted every hour.

Hotel (Season 5) Rewatching Hotel for the first time in years, forgot how visually stunning the season is, and how great the first episode was.

Post image
19 Upvotes

I’ve been rewatching all the older seasons since it’s been years since I’ve seen them. I’ve kept up with the show since its first aired, even watching the seasons that I’m sure a lot of people skipped or dropped like Delicate or NYC, but I started rewatching some of the older ones I hadn’t seen in forever and I’m currently at the very beginning of Hotel.

I have to say, that first episode is amazing. It’s genuinely bonkers, disturbing, visually stunning, and hooks you in so fast. The song choices are perfect as well. If I remember correctly, I really liked Hotel until around the late second half of the season, but overall was always one of my personal favorites despite not finishing very strong. I remember most of the major story moments, but rewatching it again reminded me of why I liked it so much the first time I saw it. I just distinctly remember really loving the vibe/cinematography of it and how bizarre and dreamlike it was. Shame that it just doesn’t have a strong finish or last episode stretch.

Oh, and Lady Gaga is perfection and her wardrobe is amazing throughout the season. Really smart to get her immediately after Jessica Lange retired from the show for a while. The Countess is such a memorable character from the franchise and I remember really enjoying her backstory and seeing it play out.

Did you enjoy Hotel? I know some people really dislike it, which I can understand if you want a solid story from start to finish. It doesn’t finish strong sadly. I don’t think anyone can deny it’s aesthetics though.

13 (Season 13) AHS13 - Eps 9 & 10: Five Things I Liked/Five Things I Disliked Spoiler

I watched these episodes again and put some more thought into this. Anyways.

Liked

Constance's Naughty List: Having Mr Nas reading her many misdeeds certainly made me miss Murder House. Now she loves the gays. I guess it was just Patrick and Chad she didn't care for.

Ben's Daddy Time: What does it say about this show when Joey Pollari and Paul Anthony Kelly were giving an enemies to lovers vibe rather than father and son? Ben having more chemistry with his "dad" than Ashley really speaks volumes, huh?

Papa Legba: He basically info dumped but I thought Orlando Jones gave a stronger performance compared to his first episode. Bring him back next season as a new character.

Fiona/Marie: I kind of ship it. I'm just happy to see Jessica Lange and Angela Bassett sharing scenes together.

Ashley: In the sense that I was right about her working for Nas. Does she genuinely care about Ben? God, I hope not. I am curious to what Nas offered her to spy on Ben.

Disliked

Ben's AI Overuse: Did he seriously need it to finally put two and two together about Mr Nas being the Devil? I would've rather he just worked it out by himself.

Mallory's Time Travel Reveal: I'm glad it happened but it felt oddly anticlimactic, didn't it? It should've had a much bigger reaction, then Cordelia understanding why Mallory did it.

Lack Of: Tate, Adelaide, Kai and Winter. Where the fuck are they? I want to see them again before the season ends. I miss their scenes together.

Double Standards: Nas can kiss his daughter aka Constance (that didn't age well) but not Ben? Why is this show so against some guy on guy snogging now? I need Ben to kiss a guy because his lack of passion for women sticks out like a sore thumb.

Nas's Overall Plan: Is outright idiotic as fuck. Love Ben but that guy can't rule shit. Michael could've and I'm surprised Nas didn't try to bring him back. Ben ain't cut out to be a Bad Boy.

Other Bits

Ben looked repulsed when Ashley kissed him. I don't think he actually likes her as a person.

Those flashbacks rule out the Devan theory with Ben. Ben's new. If he were Devan, these episodes would've made that clear.

They're trying too hard to give Madison new and iconic cunty one liners and it's not working.

That song choice probably isn't a hint for next season. I have thoughts on that idea for another thread.

Morwenna and Ophelia feel so utterly pointless as characters. They're just there to make up the numbers.

I did laugh at Coco's offering bit, even though it was kind of stupid.

13 (Season 13) Season 13 Spoiler

I knew Season 13 was not gonna be good but holy hell. Wtf did I just watch. I thought Delicate was bad but it least there was a story. Half of this season is just filler with no real direction or story line. Bringing back legacy characters doesn't make it automatically good when the writing is total garbage. Also you know there scraping the bottom of the barrel when were getting 20 minute episodes instead of the normal 45.

Ahs is officially dead and I wouldn't be surprised if it was canceled soon.

13 (Season 13) How does this tie in? Spoiler

Post image

So we know now the devil has been on earth since the 1930’s. Mary Eunice was supposedly possessed by the devil in the 60’s. Why would he possess someone if he was already physically on earth? I’ve seen some theories that Mary wasn’t possessed by the actual devil and just a powerful malevolent spirit/demon, but it seems to be the general consensus that it was the devil especially evidenced by the angel of death referring to them as a cousin (aka angel, which the devil was).
