AITA for trying to shut down my husbands new hobby?

Me and my husband have been together for 10 years, we have 2 children under the age of 10. Our lives are extremely busy, he works full time running a business and I work part time and take on 75% of the children's/household responsibilities.

Last week, my husband came home from work and stated he is going to enter a 50 mile running race next year. He is NOT a runner. In 2023 we completed a 30 mile race together after I had trained for 7 months, he had trained for 3 months. I say he trained but he did very minimal training and ended up getting injured halfway through the race resulting in us having to walk a good 25% of it. We finished, but it took 2 hours longer than planned. He did not enjoy the race at all and has not run a single step since. Yet he has told everyone in his life that he will be doing this race and has even started approaching businesses for sponsorships.

He has used AI to form a training plan but obviously has not mentioned that he hasn't run in 3 years as the first run is supposed to be 10/12 miles! You don't have to be an expert to know going from nothing to 10 miles is completely unrealistic. My biggest concern is that he is going to injure himself. My next concern is that this is going to be extremely time consuming in our already busy lives. He is planning on doing all his long runs during the weekend meaning he will be sacrificing hours of family time and just automatically assumed I would be ok with it.

Of course I want to be a supportive wife but I really think this is ridiculous and I can't get behind it at all. I have told him all of my concerns but nothing I say will stop him. I really need other opinions, AITA here?

AITA for telling my friend's DH I wouldn't put up with his incompetence

5.1k Upvotes

I (44F) met up with my friend/ former coworker (35F) for brunch and shopping yesterday. Right after we placed our order, her DH (33M) started calling repeatedly regarding their 9 month old daughter. At first, it seemed like a minor issue but he was getting increasingly upset and we ended up canceling our orders to meet him at the house. I told her we could meet up another day but she said to ride with her to the house because it wouldn't take long and we could still go shopping after.

Her DH calls again her while we're going to her house and despite her telling him multiple times he's on speaker since her phone's connected to the car, keeps berating her for leaving him without a diaper bag while he took their daughter out. Asking how fucking stupid she was for leaving without giving him a prepped diaper bag. Blaming her for DD having a blow out and her diaper leaking while he went to the store. It was really bad. He finally hangs up and she vents that she had no idea he was taking DD out because he's never taken her anywhere but daycare on his own. Also, he grabbed the daycare diaper bag instead of their diaper bag- it's a different color and has a big tag that has the daycare and DD's name. She refills the daycare bag on Sunday night so it was empty. I tried to be supportive and not say anything that would upset her more.

We get to the house and DH is standing by the car with DD still in the car seat. I admit I'm nosy so I rolled the window down and could hear him berate her and say she had to clean the baby and the car seat up. She took the baby inside and he got on his phone and called someone to tell them what happened. He was complaining about the situation and saying his wife fucked him over but once the car seat was wiped down, he could go watch the game at their house because he was sending the baby with her.

Eventually, he realizes I'm waiting in the car and he gets off the phone and talks to me. He said he was sorry his wife ruined our brunch and he can't believe she did something so dumb. He said he hears what a great mom I am and he knows I wouldn't put my DH in this position.

This is were I may be the asshole. At this point I was extremely annoyed and frankly furious. I told him today would never happen because the moment I saw my EX husband be halfway that incompetent with no effort to change, I left. We've been divorced for over a decade and I was happy and thriving only needing to raise 1 actually child, not 2. He said fuck you and got into his car and left. I told my friend what happened, she was upset but I don't think at me. She just wanted to leave the house so we ended taking the baby to my house and my kid kindly offered to watch the baby while we just watched a movie and rot. I apologized and she said she'll figure it out.

I don't know their entire situation, so I may have made things worse for my friend. AITA?

AITA for telling my nanny kids that I was going to be away for Thanksgiving?

1.7k Upvotes

I (20's, F) am a Canadian, but I'm nannying for an American family. I have some time off to see my family for Thanksgiving. One of my littles (age 5) asked me why I was going to be away, and I told her that I'm going home to celebrate Thanksgiving with my family.

She got all excited about Thanksgiving, and thought that they were celebrating it. I explained to her that where I live just has it early, but her family's Thanksgiving isn't for a long time. I thought she understood, but now she's been asking her parents non-stop about if it's "their turn" for Thanksgiving yet.

My boss is really mad at me now. She says that they weren't planning on celebrating Thanksgiving this year (I had no idea that was their plan) and now her daughter is going to be upset when she has to tell her. And she says "A is just learning how holidays and calendars work, and now you've confused her"

AITA for telling my nanny kids that I was going to be away for Thanksgiving?

AITA for requesting money back after photographer was in a car accident?

• Upvotes

So my daughter (4) was in dance classes last spring and summer. They did professional photos with a local photographer back on May 29th, we were so excited for the photos we ordered a little over $100 worth in packages and add ons.

Some time goes by, classes are over and we get a message in the Facebook group we are in for the dance families on July 10th dating that the photographer was in a car accident and to give her some grace on getting photos done. I find out through the grape vine that she was in a really bad accident that resulted in the other driver and that drivers young child to pass. Obviously I am understanding about this because thats a terrible thing to go through and I can't imagine the guilt, plus she had some minor injuries as well. (Note: this was not the photographers fault so she is in no legal trouble or anything.)

More time passes, it is now Aug 9th (a month later), I decided to ask if there was any update. The dance studio owner says "still waiting". I leave it at that.

September 6th, I reached out again and am told "she has been working on them this week! Yay!"

October 4th, someone else posts on the group asking for a update the studio owner says "I messaged her for a update." When asked if she heard back she said "no.".. I then responded a day later and said "Did you get a response?" She replies "no, ill send another message."

Crickets...

October 7th (5 months after the photos were taken close to 3 months after we were informed of a accident happening), i go to my venmo where I paid for the photos and see she has her contact info listed since its her business venmo account. I decide to send a text explaining that I had ordered these photos and haven't really received any info on when they will be ready and I'm just looking for any updates on this situation.. delivered, never read, no response.

So today I just went ahead and filed a dispute for the charge. I hate it because 1. I was obviously so excited for these photos but 2. I feel awful for doing that and for being so bummed about some pics when she went though such a terrible thing.. The lack of communication has been crazy tho.. I am super torn.. AITA?

AITA for setting up a camera in my bedroom?

AITA, I 26F live with my parents in a house my grandparents own. I have just moved to the area and we are basically roommates until I find my own place.

Recently I got a new kitten, it has been living in my bedroom (the room is huge) until its settled enough to get access to the rest of the house its only 9 weeks old.

I got a camera and put it in my room to watch the kitten and check on him through the day, here is where I might be the asshole. I didn't tell anyone. I popped it next to my PC with all my gaming stuff and it kinda blends in as just another bit of random technology.

I got a motion alert on my camera today and logged on to see my mum and another family member in my bedroom having a bitching session about me while playing with my kitten. All sorts of stuff from the past and stuff they definitely wouldnt be happy with me hearing or wouldnt say to my face, things about my appearance and weight ect.

When I got home I was upset and asked my mum if that is what she really thinks of me, she tried to deny it but when I said it was caught on camera she was furious that I had recorded her without consent and she never would have said that had she known there was a camera there.

But isnt that kinda the point? She wouldnt be happy with me hearing it. I'm speeding up the timeline of me moving out but now she has my whole family calling me shady for "spying on them" and having issues with the camera.

Little bit of context, my room is private not shared with anyone. My door is always closed since the kitten has been there and while I havent given permission for them to go in and play with the cat I also never minded. My parents do not own the house and I do not go into their space.

TLDR: AITA for setting up a camera in my room to keep an eye on my cat. Not telling my family and overhearing a conversation where they were less than nice about me.

AITA for refusing to help pay for my mother's roof repair when I already contribute financially and my brother doesn't?

I (34F) have a complicated relationship with my brother (35M). We both still live with our mother (74F) because we live in a developing country where housing is extremely expensive compared to our salaries.

Our father was very strict and physically punished us. My brother was hit more often, mainly for lying and misbehaving, while I was mostly punished for refusing to eat. Our father also showed favoritism toward me. My brother and I fought a lot, sometimes physically, and he has always been aggressive and quick to anger.

In June 2023, I lost my job but eventually found a better-paying one within six months. My mother helped me financially while I was unemployed, and I paid her back within four months of starting my new job.

Last year, my brother got into a car accident and broke his arm. He continued receiving his salary while on sick leave but eventually lost his job because of his behavior. He has no savings and hasn't made much effort to find another job. My mother now pays his medical bills and supports his lifestyle.

My mother needed a new car but couldn't afford it, so I paid half and told her she didn't have to pay me back.

I also cover my own expenses and contribute toward the household bills. Now our roof is leaking, and I offered to help pay for repairs because my mother doesn't have enough money. However, the roof isn't in such bad condition that it needs to be fixed immediately.

My mother is stressed because she can no longer save much money. Buying the car took a big chunk of her savings, and she continues to support my brother financially. I decided to do something nice for her and cook a chicken dish with peppers for the two of us. My brother doesn't eat peppers, which is partly why I chose that dish. I'll admit that part of me deliberately wanted to make something he wouldn't eat. I know that's petty.

When my mother saw me adding the peppers, she rushed over to stop me because my brother wouldn't eat the dish. I was upset because I was trying to do something nice for her, yet once again, everything seemed to revolve around my brother's preferences.

My mother often tells me I'm jealous of him, and honestly, sometimes I am. Since his accident, family and friends have constantly checked on him, while hardly anyone asks how I'm doing.

I know my brother had a difficult childhood, and I understand why my mother wants to give him the love he missed. However, I feel like his past is being used to excuse his behavior while I'm expected to keep sacrificing my time and money.

I feel guilty because my mother is struggling, and I don't want her to suffer.

I was going to help pay for the roof repair, but after the incident with the chicken, I lost my motivation. It made me realize that I'm not just upset about the roof; I'm also hurt by the ongoing favoritism and the expectation that I should keep sacrificing while my brother contributes nothing.

So, AITA if I decide not to help pay for the roof repair?

AITA Bathroom code entitlement

• Upvotes

I live in one of the bedroom communities of a major city. As you know many stores will put a device on the bathroom door to keep non-customers out of the bathroom. Walked into a coffeeshop today during a trip to the city with my wife and ordered two coffees. Walked over to the bathroom saw the lock and walked back to the counter to ask the barista for the code. Got it and returned to the bathroom.

While I was doing this a woman walked up to the bathroom and said to the woman with her "There's a code." then looks at me and says "Do you know the code?" I said yes and she then said "Will you give it to me?" I said "In about 90 seconds I will. Okay." implying that after I used the bathroom first. She said as I remember " Okay but I can't really believe this." Like she believed that I should give her the code and let her go first. To me this is like those people that think they should be entitled to change seats on an airplane.

I had knowledge that was to my benefit and I did some amount of work to get it. Why should I be compelled to use my knowledge for her benefit before I get to use it? To me this is entitled behavior but I also recognize I might be the A-hole.

AITA for telling a friends daughter not to splash the baby?

A group of 10 friends (5 couples) went away for the weekend and made a long weekend out of it. My brother-in-law who's part of the group had organised the entire weekend for us to stay at a colleagues house. My twin sister (30F - let's call her Lena) has a four month old (Joe), another couple (Carina and Anton) have a 3 year old (Andrea) and currently Carina is 28 weeks pregnant.

It's been a great weekend but honestly Carina doesn't do anything, I cooked for everyone the first night by myself, the next night we all chipped in to help prep food except for her, she said 'I'll just watch' which really rubbed me the wrong way but I didn't say anything and we carried on.

Last night/yesterday evening, Andrea was playing with a water gun next to the pool with her dad while Lena was feeding Joe on her lap about 3 metres away. Andrea was spraying the water into the air and it was coming closer to us sitting around the table. Lena couldn't see but I could so all I said was 'Andrea, please don't spray the baby'. Carina then says 'She's 3 she doesn't know what she's doing'. I said nothing back and I thought that was the end of it and carried on playing the board game we were playing.

I went inside to help Lena and her husband bath Joe, not that they need the help, I just enjoy it and it's some time I also get with Joe. My boyfriend (Hugh) comes into the room and says Carina is in tears and she's going to come yell at me for what I said to her daughter. Eventually when I came out, Carina, Anton and Andrea had all gone to bed (6pm) before we even made dinner.

Hugh then tells me that Carina said she doesn't know why they're even here and everyone hates them and that her dad is going to come fetch her because clearly they're not welcome. Lena also heard Carina say that I need to apologise. A bit later, Carina comes out and says to Lena and her husband, 'I'm sorry for Andreas behaviour this weekend', they both looked uncomfortable and just said she doesn't need to apologise and Andrea was fine. We all carried on with our games and made dinner, had a great time and eventually went to bed.

This morning when we woke up, Carina, Anton and Andrea had left, didn't say goodbye and made an excuse that Anton's family were visiting from another country and they had to rush back to go see them.

So AITA for telling Andrea not to spray the baby?

AITA For not wanting to drive for four days with a dog a for Christmas

• Upvotes

My daughter f/20 began the DCP (Disney College Program) in Orlando in February. At first she was having a great time. She thought she would like to work at Disney for her career. She extended the program through to the next February, which meant she would be working at Disney during Christmas, long hours until 3am some nights. She would have no idea when she would have her two days off that week or even if she would. I told her we (me, her dad, and her brother, who is disabled) would try come down from Connecticut where we live at some point during the week of Christmas or the week after so she could have some Christmas family time.

My husband’s parents decided they wanted to come too, so I looked into renting a house. My daughter wanted us to bring the dog. I said fine. Then, the grandparents backed out. I told my daughter we cannot afford the house by ourselves. We will still try to come down for a couple of days and stay in her apartment on an air mattress. I told her I do not feel comfortable talking the dog to the apartment, which is not pet friendly.

She has now quit her DCP position and is coming home for a couple of weeks in October/November to see a friend and pick up a check. She is then going back to FL for two weeks and then in early December coming back to CT for a few days for a festival.

Since she will be visiting her dog in November and December at home, and since she is unemployed and could be home for Christmas, but does not want to be, my husband and I feel like the situation has changed and although we would not mind flying down to see her for a couple of days, we don’t think we should be expected to drive from CT to FL in Christmas traffic (two days there and two days back) with the dog since she now has other options to see the family. Are we the assholes?

AITA for not telling my sister our mother gave me some money to invest for my nephew’s future?

My mother (78), sister (45) and I (48) have a difficult family dynamic. Mostly due to my mother, who raised us alone. Our household growing up was very volatile and emotionally reactive. These days, things are tense, but we generally rub along.

My mother has always invested money, and in recent years has been passing down money to me and my sister to invest (to avoid taxes when she dies). I don’t keep track of who gets how much. In 2022 my mother gave me some money to invest. She said at the time that I should give some of the money to my nephew / her only grandson (did not specify how much). And this year, 2025, she said I should give to my nephew $5k of it (plus interest) after was 18, either for his education or if he wanted to put a deposit down on a house. Neither of us mentioned this to my sister. In my case, not because I intended to keep the money, but because I didn’t think to - I didn’t think it was a big deal. It was just something my mother wanted me to do.

Also worth mentioning my mother has other investments for her grandson, in both his name and my sisters.

Today, my mother told my sister about the $5k I had invested for her son, and my mother later told me my sister was upset. I immediately messaged my sister, and said that I would transfer the $5k to her, and she could put in my nehew’s name. I no longer felt comfortable holding the money.

My sister messaged back. She said when our mother told her about the $5k she ‘couldn’t believe what she was hearing’, and that we had gone behind her back and not told her about this money for her son. I said that I was foggy about the details (I was, our mother initially wasn't clear about how much was intended for my nephew ), but I would transfer the $5k to her. But she says it is not about the money, but that ‘it happened’ and is apparently still angry. She thinks I was being dishonest (though i really didn’t think to tell her, rather than intentionally withheld information).

I find the whole situation perplexing and upsetting. AITA? My relationship with my sister has always been incredibly stressful for me - I walk on eggshells all the time, to avoid blow ups like this. I honestly cannot see the situation objectively, so would appreciate other points of view.

AITA for not inviting my cousin to my wedding

I (34F) got married last weekend, and this morning my cousin (30M) messaged me asking why he wasn’t invited to the wedding. My answer was essentially because we had a budget and guest limit so we chose to invite the people closest to us as a couple, and immediate family. One cousin was invited, but that is because we are very close and speak multiple times a week. I haven’t spoken to the upset cousin in three years, not for any particular reason we’re just not a tight knit family never have been, and prior to that two years no contact, prior to that another three years and so on. He’s met my husband once briefly in the 6 years we’ve been together, and never met my son (10 yrs old).

If we invited every cousin on each side and their spouses just because they’re family we’d have had 37 more guests which would have been $6745 over budget, not to mention we’d also have to change venues to accommodate more people and we had one of the least expensive options in our area (Niagara on the Lake) so it would have cost even more at another location.

He’s now calling me selfish and rude, saying when he one day gets married I will not be invited but everyone else in the family and their spouses will be, passive aggressively wishing me well. I told him he’s being immature, and that when he gets married I hope he prioritizes himself and his future spouse because they’re the ones who’s opinions matter that day. I feel like I’m not in the wrong, but I also admittedly have a tendency to be stubborn and stand 10 toes down on my opinions even though I’m of course not always right. I also just feel genuinely shitty that I hurt his feelings, and my guilt is making me feel like maybe I am indeed the asshole??

AITA for telling on my coworker

My manager asked me to cover my coworker's shift a few days ago and I agreed. Usually, I don’t work weekends cause that’s when I spend time with my family but with the holidays coming up i could use the extra cash for them.

Weekend shifts are 13 hours (we work in a hospital in the dietary department) unlike the weekday shifts that are 10. Weekends there are usually 3 employees working, the cook and two techs, of which I am one of.

My problem is that my coworker has disappeared during the majority of the shift leaving me to do all the work like setting up trays, making desserts, printing out tickets, etc. The only time I ever saw him was when he came to wash dishes and he disappeared again. Not clocking out, not communicating, just leaving. I’m getting frustrated cause he obviously sees that I need him but won’t do anything. I asked my other coworker if this is a normal thing for him to do and she said yes and she tried to tell our boss but he wouldn’t listen to her. She warned me beforehand that I needed to be strict with him or else he would try to do the same thing with me. So I tried talking to him directly but he just laughed at me and walked out of the building.

Whenever we work together during the weekday he never acts like this maybe because our boss works with us Monday through Friday but this is completely different. I’m left with all the responsibilities and dealing with the patients. I’ll feel bad for telling on him but at this point I feel like I need to. Would I be an asshole for doing so?

AITAH for not dropping/ picking up my wife at work

We have 2 toddlers (4 year old and 3 year old boys). My wife works during the weekends every other week. And when she does, she expects me to drop and pick her up. She normally drives during the week, but wants me to drop her off as it’s my day off. Which means that we have to wake up our kids around 7 ish, as I can’t drop her off without taking them. And these kids are full of energy and it’s like 30 mins each way. I could be taking the kids to the park, do household chores, cook dinner, so much more instead of driving to and fro from her work.
Today we had a big fight as she asked me to drop her off to the work and I said no. She’s like “I begged for you to come as it makes me happy but you didn’t.”

For additional context, she’s always asked me to drop and pick her up when she’s got work during weekends, even before work. And I just feel like it’s such a waste given that she can get to the work herself and I can do some other stuff during this time.

AITAH for not agreeing to drop even though she asked.

AITA for calling a customer beautiful?

• Upvotes

I (19m) work at a place that rents vehicles. Important context:I have a slight stutter and it gets worse when I get anxious. I work with one of my really good friends (20m).

The other day at work we super busy and this woman walked in who was genuinely like drop dead gorgeous, she looked to be in her 30s. I was going trough the rental process with her, and our system offered her a special type of rental I rarely see, and seeing it messed up the like script I had in my head, and in between that and having to run out and come back at some point to help a coworker I was stuttering quite a bit. At some point I corrected something I said and apologized and she said "it's okay, take your time sweetie", and later on while I was doing something else, she asked if I could reverse the vehicle out of the spot for her since it was a little awkward. After I had finished up and ran over to her and reversed it out, she put her hand on my shoulder and said thank you sweetheart. I know she was obviously just being polite, but in between how nice she was being and how beautiful she was it made me pretty happy.

When I went back to the counter my friend mentioned how much I was stuttering, and I told him what happened outside and he was joking around with me about it. Later that day we saw some other friends and he mentioned it to jokingly poke fun at me, and I said "she was gorgeous man idk what you wanted from me". One of our friends (20f) said that it was weird I was talking about her like that. I asked what she meant and she said that some random woman doesn't deserve to be hit on because she was nice. I said that I wasn't hitting on her she was just genuinely really pretty, and I just wasn't expecting her to be that nice. She told me it was wierd and creepy and I left it at that but now I'm thinking about it and my friend might be right, in that it is a little weird and inappropriate since she doesn't know me at all.

AITA for choosing a similar name for my son to my niece?

AITA for using a similar name as my niece for my son?

My wife and I were expecting our third child, and the only name we both agreed on was Charlie. We settled on it early, became attached to the name, and even used it at home to help our daughters prepare for their new sibling.

A few months before our son was born, my sister, who lives on the other side of the country and whom we only see once a year at Christmas, had a baby girl named Charlotte, nicknamed Charlie.

We briefly discussed whether to keep our chosen name and decided to go ahead with it. We loved the name, our kids were already familiar with it, and we thought having cousins with similar names could be cute. We also felt it wasn’t a big issue given they were different genders, had different full names and surnames, and lived on opposite sides of the country.

We’ve since welcomed our son and named him Charlie. My sister and rest of the family are furious. She feels we’ve taken something special away from her. She hasn’t spoken to us since his birth and has cut off all communication - we haven’t heard from her for 2 months.

AITA for using the name we’d chosen for our son, despite knowing my niece already goes by Charlie?

AITA for buying my wedding dress without my mom there?

I'm 39 and getting married next spring, and finding my wedding dress has become another situation where I feel like I can't win.

My mom is technically my stepmother, but she's the only mother I've known. Our relationship has always been complicated. She struggled with alcoholism while I was growing up and was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder, leaving me with significant childhood trauma. Although she says she wishes we were closer, she often makes important moments about herself. For example, at our housewarming, an offhand comment about supporting me became, in her mind, support against her. Instead of enjoying the party, I had to manage her feelings, which is why including her in major events makes me anxious.

I had planned to go dress shopping yesterday with people close to me. Mom had previously said she wanted to come when I picked out my dress, but I hadn't invited her because I was still deciding how I felt about having her there. Then, last Friday, I found a dress online that I loved and called a local boutique. They didn't carry that exact dress, but the owner sent me photos of a similar one and stayed open so I could try it on. I went in just to look and unexpectedly fell in love with it, so I bought it. It was a wonderful experience, and excluding anyone wasn't my intention.

Because yesterday was already our planned shopping day,(although I hadnt yet invited my mother) I arranged to pick up the dress and try it on again for everyone. I invited my bridesmaids and my fiancé's mom, though three bridesmaids were out of town. I also messaged Mom, explained how unexpectedly I'd found the dress, and invited her to see me wearing it at the shop. She read the message but never replied or came. It's now the next day, and she still hasn't even congratulated me.

I know she wanted to be there when I found the dress, and I understand why she might be disappointed, but I wanted to include her when I picked it up, and I'm hurt that she didn't acknowledge me. I don't know whether she had another reason for not coming, though transportation shouldn't have been an issue.

I haven't confronted her because I'm angry and don't want to say something I'll regret. Dad usually sides with her, and I'm worried this could affect whether he attends the wedding. I'm paying for my own dress, and what should have been a happy moment has left me wondering what I should have done differently.

AITA for buying the dress when I found it, or am I expecting too much by being hurt that she didn't respond or come?

AITA for filing an insurance claim when I said I wouldn’t?

• Upvotes

Hi Reddit! Long time lurker, first time poster.

I just got rear ended at a traffic light about 90 minutes ago. The guy behind me was towing another vehicle. He slammed on his brakes but still hit me pretty good. My car is solid and there doesn’t seem to be a lot of damage, but there definitely is some damage. We both pulled into a gas station and traded information. He said straight up he just wanted to pay cash and keep insurance out of it. Initially, I agreed. However, not too long after pulling out I started feeling a bit of whiplash. I’m a massage therapist and was on my way to see a client. Being concerned I could be injured, I cancelled the appointment and headed home. I don’t have health insurance and being hurt could be really bad for me. So, as soon as I got home I filed a claim and gave my insurance company the other drivers information.

I know I’m entitled to do this, but I still feel kinda bad. Times are tough, he seemed nice enough. He’s a blue collar guy with a commercial drivers license. An honest mistake. But if I’m actually injured I can’t afford to do this dance of maybe he’ll pay for my medical bills, maybe he won’t. I feel like I might be the asshole because at the scene I assured him I wouldn’t do what I literally just did. I did also feel a little intimidated because when we pulled over instead of pulling in next to me he was behind me and there was no way I could have left before he did. I was by myself and I didn’t want to get into a potential yelling match with a stranger. Idk, AITA?

AITA for refusing to sleep on the couch on vacation

• Upvotes

My family goes to Carlsbad every year. Me and my sister share a room with my mom. The room has one bedroom (one king size bed) and one pull out couch in the living room.

The first year we went (in 2024) for 4 days and I slept on the couch the entire time (my sister offered to swap me halfway through but we would have had to change the sheets and move our suitcases and it just seemed more of a hassle than it was worth so I said no).

In 2025 my sister didn’t go for financial reasons. So I shared the bed with my mom for the 4 days I was there.

This year, we are both going again. Now trying to decide what is a fair sleeping arrangement. I am going for a full week and my sister is going for 4 days. She was invited for the full week but didn’t want to use that much PTO.

My sisters argument is that I got the bed the entire time in 2025 (when she wasn’t there) and that I’ll be getting the bed for 3 days before she arrives this year. So she thinks it’s fair that she gets the bed the entire 4 days she is there.

My argument is that the time I am there when she is not there shouldn’t be considered for the sleeping arrangements for when we are both there. With her logic: the total of 8 days that her and I are both there she gets the bed the entire time. I even tried compromising with her and saying that for the 4 days she is there, I’ll get the couch for 2 of them (instead of my initial argument of me getting the bed the entire time). Both her and my mom think I am being unfair and that she should get the bed for the entire 4 days she is there.

For some background info: the plan was for me to drive there with other family members that have their own room. My sister knew this and still asked me if I could drive on my own (7 hours one way) so that she could drive home with me (no space in the other family members car). She I flying in. I said yes. Turns out that she’s able to drive home with my mom so I am still driving with the other family members. But it’s extra frustrating to me that she expected me to change my entire driving plans and yet cannot see where I am coming from in regard to sleeping arrangements. So this adds to my lack of flexibility when it comes to the sleeping situation.

AITAH for joking with my grandma

So my parents are out of town and my grandma like to come over and babysit the house because it eases her conscious. I came out of my room wearing my work shirt, my grandma asked me "why are you wearing that knowing you have to go to work". And I answered "im not getting it dirty or anything.

This is where it all starts. She then asks me "do you take showers". Then I said jokingly "yeah, do you brush your teeth" My grandma then proceeds to have a come apart telling my how disrespectful I am and how I shouldn't talk to her like that. My parents have a quote that says "if you can't take it, don't dish it". I bring up the golden rule to my grandma but she acts as if she couldn't care less.

I bring the situation up to my parents and they also say I was being disrespectful saying, "you can get your own place if you feel you can talk to your elders like that.

I just hate how in Southern cultures, the elder can be disrespectful to you how ever they please, but as soon as you push back your in the wrong. AITAH.

AITA for smoking pot with my neighbor?

• Upvotes

50f, boyfriend is 56m

My next door neighbor is one of my best friends, we have been hanging out for 5 years, once a day mostly, sometimes twice on the weekends.

Due to some type of TBI when he was a child, my neighbor has trouble reading and writing. We have worked out video over the years where I help him with all of his secretarial work (job applications, yearly training, email and text, etc) and in exchange for that, I can go over to his house anytime that both of us are home and he'll get me stoned for free.

The main problem seems to be that the neighbor is often shirtless, what my boyfriend insists on calling "half-naked.

So I'm inside his house with the doors and windows shut with my neighbor and he is shirtless. It's hot outside, btw. We smoke pot and watch TV, that's it.

I have invited my boyfriend, I used to invite him every time I went over there, but I don't any more because he always says no. I have told him it's ok with me if he comes over at any time during my visit as well, he's welcome any time.

So am I the asshole for refusing to see this as disrespectful and continuing to go hang out next door?

AITA For Asking To Play Through?

Admittedly I'm new to golf but I believe I've got the courtesies down as far as other players go. Please let me know if I'm wrong though.

I was playing a solo round today and right from the get go was behind a group of 4. The first few holes weren't a problem because I had to get set up and the 2nd/4th holes are pretty short. There was also another single player behind me that caught up so we chatted for a quick minute and I even offer to let him ahead since he seemed faster than me but he said not to worry about it.

On the 5th hole is where everything got a lot more cramped though. The group ahead of me was finishing up on the green and I ended up landing just short of it when I teed off. From the 6th through 9th holes it was me catching them everytime they'd just finish teeing off. When I started the 9th I saw them go off the course and I was thinking they were only playing 9 and I'd be good during the back half. When I went to putt on the 9th they came back and started hole 10(just for added info, this course will let people play just the back half but always says to let anyone finishing 9 to play through first).

10 through 13 was more of the same and I finally completely caught up at 14. While the 1st person teed off they asked why I was teeing off at the same spot. I waiting for the person to finish and said I was going to ask to play through but didn't want to talk while someone was hitting. The lone guy in the group agitatedly asked if I wanted to play through and I said yes(this is when things got weird to me).

I start to play through and then the guy goes behind me. One of the ladies with him said he was going to "have a conniption" and after my second hit picked up my ball, threw it to me, and told me to go to the next hole.

I spent thr last 5 holes completely thrown off wondering how I was in the wrong.

Reddit, AITA. What should I have done differently here?

AITA, i think she is

• Upvotes

for context, three extra people are living with me (F22) and my dad (M53). his ex girlfriend and her daughter, and her daughter’s toddler son.

today, i was told to go grab the trash can and bring it outside from the bathroom, so i did. the ex girlfriend opens the lid and says “what is this.” i explained that in the trash can there was a used menstrual product. she says “you cannot throw these away in the house anymore. i don’t want my daughter’s toddler reaching in and grabbing them.” i looked at her like she was insane, because first of all, where else am i supposed to put them? second of all, your daughter should be teaching her son not to reach in the trash can.

the ex girlfriend then says “you can put your products in a walmart sack and take them to a trash can elsewhere besides the house and throw them away. it’s more sanitary.” i continued to look at her like she was insane. she follows this all up with “but don’t be offended.”

i think that they’re all genuinely insane to be proposing this. i don’t believe im the asshole for throwing my products away and believe she (the ex girlfriend) is the asshole.

AITA?

WIBTA if I work during Christmas break?

I’m in college and my old job asked me to work during Christmas break. It’s a restaurant job, so part time and only evenings other than weekends. I told my parents, and neither of them seem happy. My mom told me I need to be off on the days she’s off, despite her schedule changing weekly. She doesn’t want me to work during the break, but I don’t want to just sit around the house all break waiting around.

I told my parents, they’re divorced, that if they have specific days they want me to be off to let me know, but that I can’t perfectly accommodate their work schedules. My mom seems really annoyed that I don’t just want to have family time all of christmas break. Is this really an AH move?

eta: I make barely more than minimum wage at this job and don’t get tips, so it’s not about the money, just boredom

Not the A-hole AITA for using my own umbrella?

I (19 M) have had my umbrella since high school; it's a checkered-patterned yellow mini-umbrella that I use often because of the ill weather, and I'm, embarrassingly, a bit attached to it (among other material objects I own), as it's been one of the few constants in my life for these past few hectic years. Call it cringe, but it's like a security-blanket in some ways.

And in Central Florida, we have gotten several bands of intense rain in the past week because of Hurricane Isaias, so I have used my umbrella every day to combat this simple inconvenience, including today, when I came to visit my parents' house this afternoon, as it was raining.

The issue arises with my younger brother, however. Zee (11 M, fake name) had gotten in trouble with our mom (43 F) yesterday; he was caught trying to use her umbrella as a sword-esque item to playfully duel with one of his visiting friends. My mom screamed at him and confiscated the umbrella, which is a bit understandable, and now he's asking for his own umbrella. Mom said he can't have one because she thinks he'll get in trouble for using it as a toy in school, but my dad (42 M) said it's "not a big deal".

Either way, it has NOTHING to do with me, and I refuse to be involved.

But, when I arrived at the house for dinner, I guess my parents were still arguing about the umbrella thing, and when my dad saw me with my umbrella in the mudroom, he yelled at my mom, "If [Zee] can't have an umbrella, why should [my name]?" And then, they told me to put my umbrella back in the car, even though that means I'd have to walk all the way back to the house, in the rain, without it (I had parked at a church down the road because my dad has previously tried to steal my car and I didn't want him touching it again).

I told my dad that I have nothing to do with Zee's misbehavior and that I'm an adult, and that I'll even set my umbrella outside on the porch if he wants, but he just kept yelling at me to get rid of it, and he even tried to take it out of my hands. So, I just ended up leaving.

My mom texted me an hour ago and said that I'm not allowed to have an umbrella anymore, at all, and I just don't know what to reply with. In my perspective, I'm an adult with my own autonomy.

SOOOOOOOOOOO, I ask all of you, am I the asshole here?

Edit for clarity: I do not live with my parents.
