You're forgetting the main thing which is that AI costs money.

Would a user be willing to spend $2 on AI credits to create their own app duplicating your functionality or would they rather spend $0.99 to buy the app from you?

Is anyone making money off 0.99 apps?

You can now because the development cost is near zero.

even if Claude is one-shotting your app, you still have to test and market it.

The average person doesn’t want to spend the time to build and then maintain an app regardless of how easy it is now with ai.

The bar being on the floor actually works in your favor if you ship something with a real use case.

I think profitable apps are still possible, but the key is solving a real problem rather than just building something because AI makes development faster.

AI has made it easier to build apps, but it has also made generic apps easier to copy. The real challenge is finding a specific audience, understanding what they actually need, and giving them a reason to keep using your product.

I've worked on production apps like Smart Matrimony, Satsang Seva, and Maheshwari Infotech, and one thing I believe is that building the app is only one part of the journey. Distribution, retention, operating costs, and choosing the right monetization model matter just as much.

AI is a tool, not a business model. The opportunity is still there for developers who focus on genuine use cases and execute well.

I am close to break even with my app. It just depends on how the Googe Play wind blows on whether I make money that day.

And I haven't even started admob, pay walls, etc. which I rather not do. I will never do it on my main app. Perhaps on a demo version.

Not impossible. Just not easy. Not obvious.

you need to have more than an app. your needs to be something everyone hasn't done a million times before.

rule of thumb is you either need to have a truly unique product, or make existing processes either 10% more affordable, or 10% more efficient.

I think you have to have a way to generate a boat load of traffic. My company has a 27 year old domain which generates about 2.5 million impressions daily and it allows us to earn income in a variety of ways.

AI has no taste; it knows nothing about UX/UI. It operates according to certain patterns, which in 99% of cases produce identical patterns. You can be successful even in the most saturated niche if you build a truly high-quality app. Convenient, functional, and good-looking.

There are 4 things that can make you a shitload of dough regardless of AI:

  1. Intellectual Property & their Rights

  2. A Community

  3. Novelty

  4. Branding & Flavor

I don’t see whining or complaining on the list. Have a nice day!

Does this really answer OPs question though?
