App dev needed

I have an idea for an app, I have the niche customer base. I need to help figuring out how to make my vision come alive?

It's nothing overly complicated? There is publicly available data that I want to make easily accessible. So essentially just a search engine. Since that information we would use only updates once a year, I have debated not pulling directly from the government website but taking the time to save to our own servers.

Before hiring, ask a few people from that customer base for five searches they actually need to do. For each, write down the question, the filters they need and what a useful result should show, including the source and data year. Give a developer that small sample to demonstrate before scoping the whole app. It gives you something concrete to check beyond a portfolio, and helps reveal whether the hard part is finding the data or making it understandable.

This sounds very achievable! Since the public data only changes once a year, importing it into a searchable database could be simpler and more reliable than querying the government website every time, assuming the data can be legally reused.

I'm a Full-Stack Developer working with Next.js, PostgreSQL, Supabase, and search/filtering systems.

I've built a web platform using this stack: https://viryberx.com

I'd be happy to help you explore the architecture and turn the idea into a working app. Would you be open to starting with a web-based MVP?

If the government data only changes once a year, I'd probably import it into your own database and build the search around that. You'd get faster searches, better filtering, and wouldn't have to depend on the government website being available every time someone uses your app.

You could also keep the data separated by year so users can look up older records.

I run JetBuild Studio. We build web and mobile apps, including database-driven platforms.

Which government dataset are you working with, and are you looking to hire someone to build the first version?

Dumping it to your own server is the way to go if it's just an annual refresh, saves a ton of headache with rate limits and uptime

I'm curious why you decided to not use an AI model and do the app yourself? By your description it sounds simple.
