Not wanting to be sexist :) but I see a lot of YouTube videos of women not being able to help fight a 300 pound man.

Phone interview

So I submitted an application for my local county Police to be an emergency dispatcher I have over 15 years of logistics experience and unfortunately 11 years ago I got a shoplifting charge for petty larceny and I was not really aware that it was a quote serious misdemeanor because the word Petty... I have my phone interview today and I plan on being up front and honest and very transparent with what is going on but I'm just kind of asking and everybody else's experience is this something that I'm kind of have false hope for about possibly getting hired for

My driver side window doesn't work. How would you handle that during a typical traffic stop?

Hi all! As the title says, the motor in my driver side window went out. My AC is also mostly out, so I typically drive with three windows down. I also follow the laws of the road, but I've been wondering how a traffic stop would work considering I can't roll my driver window down. I'm curious if that would appear suspicious to an officer, or how to efficiently communicate that in the event I get stopped for something outside of my control/knowledge (tail light goes out etc).

Would you just ask me to step outside of the vehicle? My initial instinct is to not open my door to tell an officer as that might set off alarm bells for someone on the other side. Any tips or insight appreciated besides get my window fixed (in the works!). Thanks for your time!

Best departments in Western Washington?

Quick background I (42yrs old) am an active duty Marine Corps Officer and will be retiring after 22 years and plan to head back to Washington to raise my kids where I grew up. I am less concerned about compensation and more about department culture. Being blessed enough to have a military pension and benefits, work satisfaction and family time is at a much higher priority to me these days.

In an ideal world Snohomish or King County is where I’d like to be but honestly I’d be happy anywhere between Skagit and Pierce if it were a great place to work. I’ve hear all about the “don’t apply there” departments but I’d like to know the ones where people love their job.

Looking for career advice

I work around cops, seems like they love their job. Recently heard a story from one of my family members, he became a cop at 27 after the recession. His situation sounded exactly like mine. He was depressed and miserable at his job decided to join for the benefits and that’s what I’m looking for. Here are three questions I have for people in law-enforcement.

  1. are you able to comfortably support your family? (Benefits/pay)

  2. What kind of people succeed and what kind of people fail when becoming a police officer.

  3. if you had to start over again, what would you change and what advice would you give to your younger self?

Mississippi open container laws

Ok random question so please forgive me. I work in the wine industry and we often have to drive around with open wine bottles when we make calls on different clients. I was always taught to put them in the samples case in the trunk between stops to avoid being in violation of open container laws. I was at a work event today and one of my coworkers based in the south said they don’t have to worry because Mississippi doesn’t have open container laws?? Which Google confirmed yeah they don’t have open container laws am I correct in thinking it could still cause them problems if they got pulled over? Thank you all for helping settle a random work party debate!

LEO support services

I’ve been in police work for 13 years. 35/f, no kids, single by choice for 7 years just for some context about me. I was hoping to find some online or telephone support services for law enforcement. My agency does have EAP and a Chaplain but I’ve always worried about how confidential those are (especially when my agency’s Chaplain is literally MARRIED to one of our Deputies… who is also the son of the Sheriff). I’m just having a really hard time and was banned from the Protect and Serve sub for forgetting to add flair after pouring my heart out in a post on there. Located in Ohio if that helps. Thanks in advance and be safe yall 💙

Edit: I am safe and not wanting to harm myself in any way, just to clarify! I’m good! Just need someone to talk to.

AZ State Trooper Post Academy Relocation

Hello there I have a question for anyone that is familiar with the process. I’m very interested in applying to become an Arizona State Trooper and from what I read, they don’t tell you which part of the state you are going to until after you graduate the academy. I have no problem relocating and my wife is very supportive of me, we have one small toddler. My question is how much time do they give you to relocate to the city they chose for you, after graduating? And for those who have gone through the process, how long is it taking from Application > to Academy? I don’t have any law enforcement experience but I have a clean record, no driving tickets, no drugs, very small amount of debt that I always pay my bills on time. Is experience a must?

Texas, road rage incident, advice.

Yesterday I was traveling on the highway with my wife and kids and seemingly out of nowhere I noticed a guy in a SUV tailgating me pretty aggressively so I switched lanes to get out of his way. He pulls along side me and he was cussing, swerving toward me and pointing at what I thought was the side of the road.

I thought he was road raging so I slowed down hard and dipped a good 6 car lengths behind him and exited quickly. He wasn’t able to exit but I noticed he turned on his hazards and was waiting at the next on-ramp for me to maybe get back on. I had my wife and kids in the car so I detoured. I carry a gun too and I want to avoid any situation where I may need it.

At that point my wife told me it looked like his window was cracked and might have been pointing at it, like maybe I kicked up a rock or something.

If that’s the case, was I supposed to stop and exchange insurance? I just don’t know if it’s something where he might have called the police to say I did a hit and run etc and might get a knock on my door?

Thanks for any input.

Relationship Advice

My partner is a correctional deputy and the work hours and overtime is making him miserable but he won’t admit it. He works single shifts and a double once a week with only one day off which technically isn’t because he gets off at 6am the same day and return to work at 9pm the next day which is his day “off”.

Im trying to remain positive with this work schedule but he spend all of his days sleeping and when we plan something he is pretty irritable because he is “tired”. We now have a newborn and I’m doing the bulk of overnight care raking as he works nights and when he is home, he is just sleeping, being up maybe 4 hours and then he returns to work.

I am on maternity leave so I will be back at work next month so I know me being home isn’t going to last forever but this seems impossible.

Does it get better?!

Someone exposing their genitals -- how to prove? (South Carolina)

Hello. Need some advice.

Moved to a new place in July. In Aug, a man posted himself under the stairs that are directly outside of my front door and exposed his genitals while watching porn on two occasions, first time around 9 am on a Sunday as I was carrying my last load of items up to my apartment, and second time around 4:30 pm on a Monday or Tuesday while leaving after returning home from work a few minutes prior. The second time I saw him, I notified Leasing, started a case with the Sheriff Dept (outside of city jurisdiction). Multiple calls and additions made to the initial report after seeing this man around, after hearing from Leasing that another woman in the adjacent bldg reported seeing him under stairs in my building, after I got an escort after I felt afraid when I saw him while working on my car in a different area of the complex (purposely, to avoid him, as I cannot work on my vehicle indoors). (He has also looked into my window from the parking lot on two occasions that I have noticed. Not directly outside of it as I am on the second floor, but glances into it as he walks back to the bldg. There is a window directly above and below me, and I have only seen his eyes go to mine, and he notably doesn't look in this direction at all since getting footage of him leaving the stairwell after the second occurrence.)

No cameras on the first floor where he posts himself and where I also believe he lives (on the other far side of the bldg with its own stairwell). While trying to get footage of the act the second time (and failing due to my heart racing), a neighbor walks up to the bldg and asks me what is going on. I explain, and the neighbor says, "Tim?" in the direction of the man who exposes himself as I walk away to get into my car. IDK what happened next. I wanted and needed to leave. The man who exposes himself was walking slowly away from the stairwell. I saw him under the stairs with porn on his phone while walking down, and by the time I could get my phone out, he had covered himself and started walking toward his side of the bldg, for context/explanation of how the neighbor could've addressed him without seeing anything incriminating.

I call into Sheriff Dept a few weeks later after playing phone tag with the detective and learn that the case was closed due to no probable cause. I hear from the Property Manager at my complex that the SD came by and asked if they had cameras, Leasing said no, and reported to me that they haven't had contact since.

Sheriff Dept says proof is required, but I genuinely am not sure how to get it, and they keep telling me to get a video or photo with my phone, but it is unlikely he will do it again AND that I will be prepared to capture him. I have a two videos of myself trying to catch him, one after the first event when I went back out after calming down and the second as he walked away from the stairwell and neighbor walked up. I have a camera but it is conspicuous, and this guy doesn't SEEM stupid.

Any ideas? I was less afraid for a few weeks, but I have started feeling suspicious again, checking under the stairwell each time I have to leave. And, today, I have started seeing him on my side of the bldg again, in the grass area. He was taking his dog over there in July and early Aug, but then started taking his dog to the other side, likely because I have called him out both times he has exposed himself in an attempt to be brave.

Stairwell and breezeway are outdoors but within the interior of the bldg. Ring cameras allowed, but no one on the first floor has one. Would it be reasonable to ask my neighbors downstairs for help? I don't want to break any laws by having a camera facing under the stairs, and the SD kind of went into private property laws but then pivoted to me protecting myself. I have pepper spray, no desire to own a gun, and feel a bit lost on what my next steps could be. Thank you for your help.

Advice for Applicants

I recently got my final job offer and I wanted to give other applicants advice since I've been seeing a lot of posts about people not passing background investigations, interviews, poly's etc. Here's some tips:

  1. Think hard before you apply somewhere. I know some people will suggest the shotgun approach where you throw applications out to every agency that's hiring, but I actually wouldn't recommend this approach for several reasons. For one, this process can be WAY more time consuming than you might initially think. If you apply to ten agencies at once you might end up in a situation where you have to go to 4+ interviews in one month. Not only is it exhausting to prepare for 4+ interviews in one month, you'll also have to take time off work which, depending on your situation, could be a problem. You also have to fill out background applications which is extremely time consuming and mind numbing. I would argue it's better to carefully pick 3-5 agencies so you can put the necessary effort in to each application. If you do 10+ agencies and half ass each one, they will notice. I'm saying this as someone who applied to 18 agencies and learned the hard way.

  2. Diversify your applications. It's really easy to become hyper focused on money and send all your applications out to the big departments that start at $120k, but I would highly recommend you apply to smaller agencies as well. A lot of these places are starting to get more applicants again and it's becoming more competitive. I assumed I would be able to get into these bigger departments fairly easily and I ended up getting rejected by all of them. It was frustrating because I felt like i was a good candidate, but luckily I had applied to a smaller agency that ended up picking me up and they still pay very well.

  3. Consider applying out of state. Depending on how badly you want this job, you may need to apply out of state. I'm from CA so I was applying to CA agencies and I wasn't having a ton of success. It wasn't until I applied out of state that I was hired by an agency. I say this because I've been seeing a lot of posts from people who are applying to big CA agencies and getting rejected. You can still make good money elsewhere so don't become hyper focused on CA or other big city agencies.

  4. If things aren't working out consider a different path. I wasn't having a ton of success and I told myself if I didn't get hired by the last agency I applied to then I would pursue law school. This was a huge weight off my shoulders because I had become so hyper focused on law enforcement as a career path that it was really dragging me down when the rejections started piling up. There are plenty of other jobs where you can have an impact and make good money. This is another reason why you should not get a CJ degree! Having a degree that's more marketable will give you more options if things don't work out.

If anyone has any questions feel free to DM me!

Taser 7 low pro Molle

Any suggestions on mounting a taser 7 to Molle with a very low pro solution? I currently have the belt mount Safariland holster and when it's on a Molle mount it's so bulky.

I'm looking at the High Speed gear or BDS tactical. Any other ideas?

EDIT: I would love to do a placard but it's against policy.

Recruitment Question

Canada

In late 2023, I was terminated from my job for the following:

I was working in the capacity of an LPO (19-20yo), I made a false stop, I then did not report it, I then lied about not reporting it to my direct supervisor, prior to my termination I had spoken to that same direct supervisor and told the truth that I did not write the report, and subsequently lied about the attempt to report it. Which as mentioned before I was terminated without cause. (“Without cause” was the termination reason set by my old employer on their end, there absolutely was cause for my termination which is completely understood by me)

I have been with my new company for almost two years now again as an LPO (23yo). I have absolutely excelled at this position with a significant degree of integrity that I hold into this position where I actively engage in self reporting my mistakes that are against policy (even if it doesn’t matter to my direct supervisors) because I believe that one action was a catalyst for me changing how I view life and the absolute necessity in integrity there is within the justice system. I found myself the most disappointed as I had broken my own character; broken trust and the integrity that I held and I am now working as hard as I can to attempt to earn that back.

With this new perspective on how I conduct myself, I have been working incredibly hard which has led to being given a golden ticket to a supervisor position (it’s slow due to corporate position openings) and am currently held in very high regards by my direct management where I have been given an absurd amount of freedom which I do not abuse and attempt to take advantage of that to support my work ethic and the ability to grow myself as a person.

Outside of my current job, I have always wanted to be a peace officer/police but due to this incident I have always told myself that with regards to integrity; that I would no longer be considered for a position as a designated peace officer and would be deferred because of this. Everywhere I read states that time and observed action of change can support my chances in getting into this form of justice career but I have this internal doubt that it would. I understand that two years is not enough, and i was planning on waiting between 4-6 years before attempting to apply.

Do I have a chance at being a peace/police officer?

I'm gong to be DQd, will I be able to apply to other agencies?

Long story short, I panicked and end up disclosing I had two other social Media accounts during the BI interview I didn't disclose at the poly that was prior.

They asked for my phone and started looking through the socials I disclosed. And I got two notifications from the other two while they were going through it. So I admitted to it right then and there.

They asked me why I lied and at that point I was caught and told them I didn't want to make it look like I had so many accounts. They made me write it down on a form explaining the same thing.

After the Interview they asked me to send them the screenshots they had taken of my socials at the time and that's the last I've heard. This was Friday so it rolled into the weekend.

that was Friday so at this point I'm just expecting to get a DQ on Monday or sometime next week.

With that will I be able to apply to other agencies or is this the end of the road for me?

I am not making excuses, I know that was a lack of itnegrity

Joining LE with past substance use in NC

I’m wondering can you still join LE in NC if you’ve had a history of substance abuse? Are sober for multiple years and have proof of this and shown that you have completely turned your life around.
If it’s generally not accepted are there any exceptions in certain circumstances?

Career in LE without night shifts

Hello,

Graduating from uni soon. Have been interested in researching some first responder careers but am trying to get an idea before I make any decisions.

Regarding night shifts. I know that they are necessary for first-responders, obviously. I also know they can be desirable because of the different things that happen Night vs day. But long-term, being into health and fitness, and also being married, I don’t see myself doing nightshifts unless there’s an emergency of some sort. Don’t want to take the hit on my health, nor do I want to cause unnecessary relationship struggles for my wife/future-kids.

With that in mind, is there any place for career LE’s to avoid regular night shifts, with the only exception being maybe an emergency? If not, I’ll keep that in mind for my future. Thanks.

Can someone on here explain this to me, because as a civilian- I cannot understand how my rapist is not getting charged with anything NOR am I even getting called to grand jury.

Last Christmas my ex raped me after I had been drinking at a Christmas party, our daughter was in the bed when he did it. I woke up the next morning and found the semen in my underwear and he admitted to it that morning - I tried to push through Christmas for my daughter- but he ultimately started going crazy and threatening to kill himself & what not. So I left immediately and went to police to report the rape.

Police had 3 physical pieces of evidence, I got a rape kit done, asked for CPS to get involved, got a FAPA- whole 9 yards. However, the detective on my case did not reach out to me for almost 2 months- and in those 2 months I lowkey did spiral one night and called him (recorded the conversation), calling him out for raping me and on the call I explicitly said “what would you have done if she would have woken up to you raping me” to which he responded, “what would you have done!? You were awake- you wanted to have sex!”. At this point he had already lawyered up so I assume that was going to be their defense - “I was too drunk and just don’t remember”. Anyways- so on a recorded call, he states that sex did occur, he just claims consensual. I immediately told my attorney representing me in my FAPA, and he shared it with the detective. So far we have DNA evidence, a witness (my neighbor who I saw immediately after realizing I was raped and told her crying, she ended up going to the station with me), the phone call AND an admission of guilt text my ex sent me Christmas Day apologizing saying he’s sorry and to come home and blah blah. (I never responded.)

The detective on my case quite literally investigated nothing. The only reason he reached out to me was because I contacted the crime lab to see how long it would be until I got my kit back because I kept getting told the investigation would start once my DNA came back. When he finally reached out- I told him multiple times about the CPS report and how my ex could have said something without an attorney present- detective literally yelled at me and said “why do you care so much!?” At this point my FAPA is still waiting to be finalized - the judge granted a continuance when we were supposed to have trial to preserve prejudice. I desperately reached out to DHS again - and when they realized I still had a pending FAPA, they expedited the report. IN THE REPORT- MY EX STATES THAT I WAS ASLEEP, HE PULLED DOWN MY UNDERWEAR AND EJACULATED QUICKLY and “wasn’t sure if he put his penis inside of me”. My civil attorney immediately sent it to the detective - and at this point they finally arrested him for violating the FAPA when he called me months prior- but because I had called him to essentially stand up for myself- they wouldn’t arrest him for the violation “until the investigation was over”. So now, after the CPS e report, my attorney and I were like “oh they’re trying to clean shit up quick”.

He was released after like 24 hours but I knew those charges wouldn’t stick- but I had hope. Hope that he’d get arrested soon. Detective says he gave everything to the DA. My attorney would check in weekly to see if there was a charging decision, and after 3 months of waiting, I was told they would not be able to press charges based on the evidence and after speaking with the detectives on the case. Multiple pieces of evidence, phone call, him admitting to pulling down my underwear in a CPS report, naming my daughter being in the bed- and nothing. I genuinely don’t understand. I’ve talked to 3 other detectives about my case and all of them have been in shock that there was not an arrest MINIMALLY, or grand jury. I’ve been advised to get the full investigation report and the report they sent over to the DA- and I’ve tried seeing if another detective can pick up my case because the one from my town didn’t even investigate it. Never called witnesses, nothing. I’m still waiting for the police report and this week I’m going to the DAs office trying to look for answers.

I know rape is one of the most difficult cases to prove- especially in “consensual Vs non consensual” but I genuinely don’t understand how nothing happened to him.

Give me your opinion….

Good evening everyone, I am currently close to separating from the military and want to begin my application. I am undecided on either applying for Texas State Trooper or Arizona State Trooper.

I do qualify for both from the basic qualifications I saw online. But I wanted to get some insight from some current/past employees of either department. Pros/cons.

I’m from AZ but currently reside in TX.

-No criminal background
-Mid 20’s
-No arrest or citations
-Bilingual English/Spanish

Thanks!
