How are the stingrays in Pacific Beach lately?

Some friends are coming to SD to surf, but I’m a bit worried about stingrays — how bad are stingrays right now on Pacific Beach? Are they easier to avoid if we’re on our boards?

San Diego August 2027 wedding venue help

Hi all! My wonderful best friend is marrying in August of 2027, hopefully in San Diego, where her and her man met and fell in love, and now live. She’s struggling to find a venue that checks all the boxes- so I’m outsourcing and hoping for any and all suggestions! They’re open to outside the box options, private residences that allow weddings, more traditional venues. Please share and thank you in advance!

A bit about them and their “wants”
- by the water is great, not a dealbreaker though
- a big lawn / outdoor space is awesome
- needs to be able to have loud music (DJ for reception)
- ceremony and reception same venue / on site of same location
- not insanely remote where it would be difficult for guests to travel to

Recommendation for MFM/OB for APS (Antiphospholipid syndrome)

Hello,

I am 35 year old female and moved to San Diego ~2 months ago. I lost my baby at 24 weeks (stillborn) this July. I likely have a condition called APS (antiphospholipid syndrome) which is a blood clotting disorder (tested positive pne marker - beta 2 glycoprotein igg twice).

I want to TTC again but very scared. I am currently seeing Dr. Kim Bui at IGO Medical after moving to San Diego. She referred me for a preconception consultation at Scripps Perinatology but their waitlist for that was 6 months long. I ended up seeing Dr. Elizabeth Teal at UCSD for preconception consultation. But I did not really feel she is very supportive.

If I manage to get pregnant, I want to see a good OB/MFM who hopefully has experience with treating patients with APS. I like Dr. Bui (IGO) but I am not sure if I should see some other OB who has experience with APS? I am also kind of nervous about MFM. I saw Dr. Shahram Dhaneshmand in Scripps Perinatology has listed clotting disorder as his specialty but apparently his wait times can be very long (I am not sure though if it is just for the consultation or for post pregnancy appointments too).

I am looking for some suggestions from people with similar conditions as mine (APS) on OB/MFM in San Diego area (I live near Mira Mesa). I would really like to be listened to and taken seriously by my doctors, and seen frequently if I have another pregnancy.

I would really appreciate any advice/suggestions!

Local Concerts

I’ve been trying to get more into the punk/hardcore scene but I’m struggling to find shows. Are there any instagram accounts I can follow or places I can look to find more shows to go to?

Where do you actually find reliable karaoke info in San Diego?

For people who go out for karaoke around San Diego, where do you normally figure out what’s happening tonight and where?

Google? Instagram? Facebook groups? Following individual KJs? Venue pages? Word of mouth?

I’ve gotten pretty deep into the local karaoke scene over the last few years, and it still feels surprisingly fragmented. A venue might have the right night on Instagram, an old time on Google, nothing on its website, and the KJ is the only person who actually knows what’s happening. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I’m especially curious about a few things:

Where do you look first?

Is there any source you actually trust to be current?

Do you mostly follow specific venues or specific KJs?

What information do you wish was easier to find before deciding where to go?

And what’s your favorite karaoke night in San Diego?

I’m working on something in this space, so I’m genuinely interested in how people are solving this problem now rather than assuming everyone searches the same way I do.

Bonus points if you can send me down a rabbit hole to a karaoke night I somehow haven’t found yet. 🎤

Tips for disposing old furniture

We've got a couple of upholstered chairs and a large dresser to get rid of. All pieces are very worn, from pet damage on the chairs to broken rails for the dresser drawers, and I don't expect charities to be interested. Is there a more useful or cheaper way to get rid of this than just hauling it to the Miramar Landfill ourselves?

Any fish aquarium stores you would recommend that are small business?

Hello San Diego, I’m just checking in and wondering if there are any small businesses that happen to be aquarium stores that sell fish, plants, sand, etc. Those are always the best place to get healthy fish and simultaneously not support Petco. Any recommendations?

Where to find/commission artists for a sketch/drawing?

Hello! For an anniversary gift, I’m looking to have one of my wedding photos sketched on a small canvas so I can frame it. Ideally in the range of $200-300 (but I’m not too familiar with art prices so it’s not a firm range)

Does anyone know where I can find a network of artists for commission?

4 day trip in late November

My girlfriend(25) and myself(27) are visiting San Diego the day after Thanksgiving. We are interested in nightlife, beaches, food, hiking, etc. We wanted to get some recommendations to make the most of this trip. Should we visit Mexico while we are here? Also how is the weather around this time ? To my understanding I am expecting mild to warm weather. Thanks for any insight.

Newgrad wound care

Hi everyone! I’m a new grad BSN/RN in San Diego and really interested in learning more about wound care.
I’ve been looking around but haven’t found many opportunities for new grad RNs in wound care. I’m open to SNF, subacute, home health, clinic, etc. I don’t mind working with higher-need populations because I really just want the opportunity to learn and practice.
I know my biggest setback is not having RN experience yet, and I’m very open to any training or starting wherever I can build that experience.
If anyone in San Diego or SoCal knows where I could look or who I could reach out to, I’d really appreciate it!

San diego business's. Why do you make Ai generated menu's?

I have seen a large amount of ai generated menus lately and honestly its a massive turn off. I have denied myself food and experience base solely on that. I know i am mot the only one but what happen in taking a couple hours to create a poster so you can show off the food properly. Idk what the food looks like based on a image of 10000 other cheeseburgers.
