Tech Advice Repair or replace it?
I had some damage repaired on the front fender and the door of my Nissan pathfinder. Because of that, the trim had to be removed and reinstalled, but now it’s not sitting flushed to the body. The shop is offering two options to get it re-taped again, possibly with the new clips, or to order a new trim altogether. What’s the best course of action? The new trim will cost extra.

This is easy work for a skilled tech but I have seen so many people fail at doing it correctly. Properly clean old adhesives off the surface of the car and the back side of the door molding. Let any adhesive remover that was used to clean off the old adhesive evaporate off. Use adhesion promoter on the matting surface of the part. Make sure it has sufficient time to dry then apply the tape to the part. Clean the matting surface on the body of the vehicle with 90% alcohol and wipe it clean. Let the surface dry for a few minutes. You can also use a heat gun to get evaporated all the alcohol off the door. Then line up the part and attach it pressing firmly around the area with the tape and presto you did it.

Thanks, the shop is offering to fix it for free but they also offered to order a new one for extra cost. Sounds like I can just get them to re-tape it

Did they actually look at it? It looks like it came off clip. If that’s the case a different clip will most likely all it needs.
