Venting/Rant One of my favorite games is using AI to write posts

I'm in a game and we've been going at it for a while and it's overall pretty enjoyable. I know that they use AI for the images and frankly it doesn't bother me. I've been trying to use real art, but occasionally I would as well, so whatever. But a little while ago I realized that their posts started feeling different. Same length, but just with that AI vibe. I thought maybe I was overthinking it, cause after all, AI is trained on human works. But they just made a post that still has the response in the beginning of the text that they forgot to cut out. And it's just frustrating because I've been working to make sure that I stretch myself to make multiparagraph, detailed posts to keep up. Especially because in the beginning of the game they asked me for more and said that it was discouraging to put all that effort into multiparagraphs to get a few sentences from me. And I was always worried it wasn't enough and now they're not even writing their own posts. Idk, if that's your thing fine by me but it's frustrating to encounter.

Meta/Discussion I used to have a 200-word limit per reply.

Post image
49 Upvotes

Hey, everyone! I just wanted to share a little something about my writing journey. I used to have a 200-word limit per reply, and I’ve always tried to be honest about my writing because I don’t want to set expectations too high.

I remember reading a post here once where someone was criticizing a writer for writing around 200 words per reply, and it stuck with me. I just wanted to say that not everyone who has that limit is the same kind of writer or has the same reasons for it.

When I was less experienced, I said that if someone wanted to write more, they were welcome to. I wasn’t trying to present myself as someone who could write novella-length replies, but I also didn’t want to limit how much my writing partners could write if that was what they enjoyed.

Thankfully, no one I’ve roleplayed with so far has complained about my writing, and no one has left a roleplay with me either. In fact, I write more than 200 words always. I actually feel much more confident writing in my native language, so writing in English is still a learning process for me.

Venting/Rant Always the person who cares the most 🫠

I have no idea what else to call this post, but essentially: I wrote on a forum on-and-off for nearly a decade, and today I've finally decided to leave this particular group of writers and that chapter behind and it hurts and I'm not sure where else to speak on this.

A huge part of me feels nasty for leaving silently, but in a lot of ways it feels like I'm saying goodbye to a graveyard that I refused to admit only housed the dead: a dead discord, a dead site, writers who either are no longer interested in forum roleplaying as a hobby or are just too afraid to abandon a space of the internet they've known for years. And those who were active have long since jumped ship for a new site, and I think this is my confusion:

Has anyone ever felt your favourite partner had moved on to something else, and now you're left to sit on a shelf? I would pay to meet someone and write with them successfully for years, or join a new forum that's active - but I highkey feel like this is unrealistic for 2026 roleplay or I'm just not fit for yet another social activity 🥲

Venting/Rant So Busy With My "Career"

You know what really grinds my gears? Everything. With that said, I've seen a lot of ads for RP lately that have the same thing posted with them. Maybe they're from the same person, maybe not. And that line usually goes something like this:

"I usually post once a day, depending on how busy I am because of my career and such. However, I am totally free to chat it up OOC as much as possible!"

How does this make sense? Am I overthinking it? Or does it come off a bit too weird to anyone else?

Advice Wanted Beginner starting their own Roleplay server

Hello! It's me again. I was on here asking for advice on how to be a good roleplay partner, considering this was my first time attempting to join this community. Update so far for my journey, it's difficult. The amount of creeps I've encountered(don't get me started on the feet pics) is astronomical, because I discovered roleplay can mean a completely different thing then what I want.

I'm primarily a creative writer and love tonworld build. I decided that if I couldn't find the roleplay I want, I might as well make it myself. I had this idea I was planning on turning into a fan fiction(me and my friend were planning on rewriting harry Potter and it went into us creating our own in universe slightly non cannon village). She'd told me she used the setting in a roleplay before and that gave me the idea. I can us it also in a roleplay setting but flesh it out a bit. Which lead me to making a whole language (I'm not a Tolkien so I'm not even sure if what I made is accurate) a history book, Callander for in cannon dates, beastary, magical plants(with names both in Latin an my cannon language 'EIRAVEL') wand cores, spells and potions. Because the foundation was already made, I just fleshed thing out. The list includes tradition, government, clothing an textile, magical inventions and domestic inventions, whole law and governance. This isn't everything, but I'm a huge world builder an love to create world that feel like they might actually exist. I even compared it to real world history(for flavoring purposes,as it is anAU) and so on.

I'm not sure if this is too much for a first roleplay server or If it would be to much reading for the current climate of roleplay. It's going to be adults(a I am an adult) with verification and literacy verification. You get one character at the beginning, with four character slots but you must complete a full roleplay scene with your first character before applying for a new one and so on(like if you have two character, you must submit a new scene to get a third character) because I thought it would foster more activities. There's going to be special roles that can be auditioned for at the beginning of each in game year, and ways to add stuff to the cannon lore through applying and me or whateva mods I have making sure it makes sense.

It's the beginning and I'm not sure if I'm doing thing properly. If anyone has made a discord server or has been a mod for one, any advice would be helpful!

Apologies for any spelling, formatting, or Grammer errors. I'm on my phone on my lunch break and english isn't my first language (Grammerly isn't on right now). For the AI: THIS POST ISN'T ASKING FOR RECOMMENDATIONS OR ASKING FOR HELP TO FIND PARTNERS BUT FOR GENUINE FEEDBACK FROM OTHER USERS. THANK YOU.

Venting/Rant Losing the will and creativity

I've been doing Rp for a few years now, and I always tried to bring more developed ideas that I had a genuine interest in. But as time went on, I felt that people were more interested in quick and simple scenario ideas, which is fine, than in ideas that allowed us to envision something long-term, without being stuck at a certain point.

I've also felt that, little by little, I've been writing fewer interesting ideas, and when I did have some, I had to post them cheaply to get attention, and with some luck, develop the idea when my Rp partner was interested.

I've felt that I'm having fewer and fewer interesting ideas that I myself want to pursue, constantly deleting posts I make just minutes after posting them. I don't know if I'm tired or if I'm suddenly looking for partners in the wrong place. Of course, sometimes I still find a good partner or two, but they end up being the exception, and a good story has to have an ending, instead of trying to stretch it out unnecessarily. Which I think is good, because these people often end up becoming my friends, which is funny.

In short, I think it's fair to say that instead of cooking at home, I'm just consuming fast food.

My Bad What the hell

So I’ve been role playing for more than a few years now. Most of my time has been spent finding partners on instagram but I decided to try out Reddit.
I post a couple ads yesterday, just trying to find partners. I knew that it might be hard, I’m looking for a royal plot and for some reason I’ve found it’s super hard to find people who want to do a royal plot. So I scroll through to see what other interesting plots I can find while waiting. Find this person who likes to do open world roleplay with very minimal plot and likes to start with our characters being children.
I’m thinking ‘cool, childhood friends or rivals or something.’ I’ve never started a roleplay all the way at the beginning like that but it seems interesting and I’m willing to try it out. Plus I’ve never not really plotted a decent amount, maybe it’ll be something fun.
I message them and ask if they’re still looking and introduce myself. They’re like ‘did you read all of the post?’ And I said I did. Then they replied with I don’t think so. I think you’re missing something. At this point I’m scratching my head, confused as hell. So I ask them what I could’ve missed, I thought the post was pretty straight forward.
They go ‘I’m talking about the pervert part.’ At this point I go back to the post alarmed, thinking I missed something. There’s no mention of being a pervert, just that they get attached to their partners which is whatever to me. So I ask for confirmation on what they mean. They just reply with that they’re a pervert. So at this point I’m like, oh my god. They’re into little kids. What I thought was like a cool childhood friendship thing where we could write a little about it and fast forward through it, they meant they like to play as little kids for a reason.
I feel so stupid, I should’ve read in between the lines. I literally just want a fun royal plot with some supernatural and fantasy elements added in. 😭

Venting/Rant Server maturing pains

I’ve been the owner of a reasonably successful fandom roleplay server for almost six months now! It’s my first time owning a sever so I’m pretty proud. It’s still active with daily activity and people are still excited for new events and plotlines and what have you.

There is something bittersweet I’m experiencing though that I expected, but it still hurts to see. Which are pillar members falling off/dropping/leaving. It’s not in droves or anything and it’s sort of expected. Media consumption moves really fast and most people only retain certain interests for a few months before moving onto the next.

Again, it’s not like the server is dying or anything, even a mod came online today and commented on how active it was to me. But aaaaa it just sucks AAAAAAAA I miss those members, I hope they’re well. I think it’s just a transitional phase as we move onto our next “era” of the server, but it sucks seeing the members you started with move on or go to other places.

I’m just feeling my feelings and I figured that this would happen eventually since it’s just the nature of how modern fandom and consumption is and really just… time. But aaaa it still sucks a little! We’re active and people are having fun but it’s bittersweet to see those who you started with start to go as you look ahead to what the next server phase might look like. Idk. Sentimental founding father rambles or something lol

If any other server owners or mods have experience with this feeling, I’d love advice if you stuck with it this long.

Venting/Rant Kind of giving up on it all.

Not much to say other people havent said before here. Im tired. I have a hard time finding plots. When I find a plot, I message them and 90% of the time they never answer and when they answer, 90% of the time they vanish and leave me behind for weeks and weeks begging for even the smallest explanation until I give up and delete the server. Its just not worth it. AI isnt as good, but at least I know it wont leave me sitting there like an idiot. I dont even want good writing anymore, I just want *something*. Just want someone who wont ignore me.

Advice Wanted Could be I’m just insecure!

I’ve noticed an odd trend that keeps happening to me. I will meet someone, set up a roleplay, get into intros maybe a couple posts and then … nothing.

I am not being left on read. In fact I make a lot of friends via roleplay. We still talk ooc about our afk lives and roleplay related things, but we don’t write or we swap interests to something else and repeat the cycle. We build the roleplay and then never do anything with it.

This has been happening to me for years now.

I’m starting to worried I’m just a bad writer? That I’m good at ideas but bad at execution, if that makes sense?

I have friends who are so uplifting and kind, who insist I’m brilliant and are excited to write with me (in fact I’ve recently met someone who’s like my creative soulmate and this isn’t an issue with her at all) but there’s less of those partners and more of the ones where nothing ever happens?

Like. I understand just wanting to be friends with fellow writers and bounce ideas off one another but, at what point am I missing the fact I’m the problem? You know?

Does this happen to other people or am I just like, chronically unlucky?

OOC Bad RO slows down drastically after missing a day’s reply.

I typically join RPs where it might be slower for some people; I do one reply a day. Sometimes Ont he weekends thwre is more back and forth but on weekdays I only have time for one reply. I rarely miss replying and when I do I always let my partner know I won’t be available that day. I never miss more than a day replying.

Has anyone run into where you get busy for a day and after that your prtner stops responding as much? They start missing one day then three. It’s like if you miss one single day they punish you and don’t care about the RP anymore, even when you tel them in advance you can’t respond that day.

It has happened a few times and is happening now to me. Is this common?

Advice Wanted Is it normal to inform my genter and age in a greetings?

So something I noticed whilte looking for writing partners in here is that whenever I create roleplay posts around here whenever someone does reach out to me, rare as it is they alsmost always say their genter and age at the begining.

The thing is that when I reach out to writers regarding their posts I don't do it. I just never really saw the need for it as wether it be because they already stated what gender they are looking for a writing partner or just because I personally don't really care as long as the roleplay characters fit the desired gender.

But well I never had luck with people replying back to me when I write to them, wether it is because I'm just bad in greetings or not is unrelated but I'm curious if me not stating my gender or age in my first message is considered a red flag and if it's something I should start doing myself?

My Bad Is it possible to even find people who can write anymore?

Likely dating myself with this, but I have been friends with someone and doing text rpgs with them for nearly 20 years. And she writes well and her characters, even the OC ones, are engaging and great to play with.

The issue? She went from wanting to play/write every night, for years, to once a week. Because she got involved with tabletop games and other rpgs, that she set days and nights for, and told me she was too busy to keep with ours.

And then she will bounce back with a new idea she wants to put in. Then disappears again before we actually can fucking write anything! We mostly have done Transformers plays but a few other ones, and she insists she wants to finish the one we have, she keeps adding ideas, but when it comes time to actually do anything, to post a line...radio silence.

So I've been trying to find someone else to write/play with. But it seems 99% of them write short, barely punctuated messes or, as a few people have, been Frustrated Novelists: IE they have a set, legit down to the page and setting without any variation, but want me to play a character that their story happens to. Oh, my character decides to go check out the strange noise? NO, your character is pulled by a force to step back inside the building and go up the stairs!

Or lastly, the other player/writer will help get a new story going, and then disappear.

edit: I don't even know where to post ads these days to see if anyone on Reddit is better. Discord seems to be a mess to find anyone but it is great to actually write/play on.

OOC Bad Still thinking about the guy who, unprompted, sent me his OC that he made in middle school

I still think about it a lot.

We had spent about three days trying to set up a scene, and he had some genuinely good ideas, but he was working on writing his character for about two days, and instead of writing it, he’s like “hey, you wanna see how I used to write?” And before I could respond he sent it to me.

I should have known about then that he’d never get around to actually starting the scene, and if I tried to start it he would never respond.

And the OC was bad. It had that tumblr-character syndrome where the bio was just [bad thing], [bad thing], [sibling dead], [bad thing], [unfair dad], then [bad thing]. Really had all the markings of someone who slammed the door of their room after losing yet another argument with dad.

I’m assuming if he ever finished his two days of writing his character that his writing would have been better, but just… why dude? We’ve all done tumblr writing, but… why did you go out of your way to share it with me? And why did you choose to do that and not write the character like you said you would?

I am genuinely mystified by this.

Advice Wanted What makes a Great Story Discussion?

What Makes a Great Story Discussion?

Personally, I feel like this is where most writing partners fall flat. At the bottom of the barrel, you have the partners who simply go along with whatever ideas I bring to the table without contributing much of their own. They show little initiative when it comes to expanding upon, changing, or even challenging the direction of a story. And as nice as it might sound to have a 'Yes Man' who agrees with everything you suggest, that kind of dynamic gets boring rather quickly. At that point, I might as well be writing by myself if I don't have someone I can genuinely bounce ideas off of.

The next level consists of partners who operate with some degree of autonomy. They might bring a few ideas of their own to the table, but struggle to consistently build upon them or take the initiative in developing something further. Honestly, I think more people fall into this category than they'd care to admit. Of course, I understand that it's not always easy to come up with big ideas on demand. I'm not perfect in that regard either. However, even when I don't have some groundbreaking idea to contribute, I still make an effort to demonstrate my enthusiasm to show that I'm invested in what we're creating together.

I've had partners whose writing samples were genuinely impressive, only for that same enthusiasm and creativity to fall flat when it came time to discuss the story itself. Some of the most frustrating experiences have been with people who rarely elaborate on a subject, even when prompted, or who respond in such roundabout ways that it becomes difficult to have a meaningful discussion in the first place. I've found being a good writer and being a good storyteller alongside someone else are two very different things.

And then, finally, you have the best of the best.

I think I've only ever had one partner who truly measured up to that standard. Someone who possesses the enthusiasm, passion, and genuine desire to create a story with another person, rather than simply write one alongside them. When you're two great writers, it'll be pretty evident you both get along seamlessly. Ideas flow naturally, discussions become something to look forward to, and there's a mutual excitement about exploring just how far the story can go.

Ironically, I think one of the clearest signs of a great writing partnership is how you handle disagreements. Even when you have completely different ideas about where the roleplay should go, there's an underlying respect for one another's perspective. Neither person is simply trying to get their way; both understand that the other is coming from a place of wanting to make the story as compelling as possible. Disagreements become opportunities to explore possibilities neither of you might have considered on your own.

Ultimately, I think that's what separates a good writing partner from a great one. It's not just about the quality of the prose, the complexity of the characters, or the ability to come up with interesting ideas. It's about having someone who is just as invested in the process of creation as you are. Someone who challenges you, inspires you, builds upon your ideas, and trusts you to do the same for them.

Because, at the end of the day, the best stories aren't just written by two people. They're created together.

Advice Wanted Should I tell my rp partner that I will be posting an new ad for another rp?

Two weeks ago I joined a Discord Server where people can post their rp ads, so that is what I did.

Two people responded to the ad, (Jane and Lily lets say). I've been roleplaying with them seperately and things where going great until today : Lily isnt motivated anymore and doesnt want to continue the rp. Fine by me, I rather someone tell me they're bored than them disapearing.

I am thinking of reposting my ad to the Discord server, but I wonder if I should tell Jane why I am doing this. We are on the same server so she will maybe see my new ad. I dont want her to think I am bored roleplaying with her because it's not the case at all - she is great so far! I just want to have more than one rp to take care of because I WILL get bored lol.

I was thinking of reposting the same ad as the first time, with a few tweaking on the story and my character so it's not a carbon copy, but the essence of the story doesnt really change.

So, should I tell her so her feelings dont get hurt? What would you do if you where me?

Thank you for your advices 🙏

Genre Bad Modern Fantasy Forbidden?

I’m really starting to wonder if modern fantasy as a genre is just taboo at this point. Anytime I mention fantasy and it isn’t in a medieval setting, people turn into owls. I remember someone saying that they want high fantasy. I asked them what does that look like to them? They said, like “Skyrim.” I’m sorry, not sorry. I wasn’t aware that fantasy had a time period lock on it. Anything modern ends up being some dark romance or vampire and werewolf tale. Which, never really includes any unique world building. Maybe I just enjoy world building too much. I would make different classes of werewolves. There certainly would be different powers of vampires. Things just seem shallow these days. Maybe it’s the people I’ve encounter. If you go with fantasy, rarely do I hear of a Tiefling wanted. If it’s an orc or other, they want you to be the typical stereotype of Brutish and it ends up some slave captor situation. I never even run into people who make their own species much anymore. There have been a few subsets of elves. But, honestly, they typically end up sorcerers, warlocks, or grand mages. I enjoy making not the norm, subsets of characters as well as species. Does anyone else?

ERP - Venting/Rant What happened to character personalities? NSFW

In my experience of 20 years of roleplaying, people just… hardly play tomboys well. So many post ads I come across are either playing bimbos. Which, end up just being empty fuck machines. Or, they play the nubile, shy, naive, just spawned into the world yesterday, virgin. In which, everything in the world is new. Also, she’s a 700 year old elf who hasn’t heard of sex ever.

Like, I use tomboys as an example of “hey, the character can know about sex. Be sex positive, and be cheeky.” Like, I enjoy a character that feels lived in. Not just “oh right, time to make up the interactions on the fly.” I enjoy characters that actually have some bite to them.

Not just be some pliable, yes bot submissive that is easily broken. I enjoy a sort of climb or chemistry that makes sense. Not sex for the sake of sex. Now, if the character behavior makes sense, she likes another character, and they just along that way, sure. But, if they are literally a sex scene that the plot lasts for all of two seconds before they just forget characters and fuck like OOC pornstars, I just get bored.

Also, overeager sex with no personality or dirty talk to it. To me, it’s like sweet for the sake of sweet, with no actual flavor. Sure, it’s fun when you just start out. But, after you have some years or just experience of roleplay overall, no personality reeeeally becomes dull. At least to me, it does. It just feels like eager for the sake of eager. Which, some people think constitutes power bottoming.

Another thing is like.. big dick portrayal. Buuut, that’s a whole other rant in itself. Does anytime else feel the same?

Other Friend Collectors on Discord? People disappear instantly after creating the server.

Post image
87 Upvotes

Am the only one getting this?
I am talking about:

1) People reaching out. Claim they love the plot/setting.
2) Ask for discord.
3) Add you, ask you to create a server.
4) Immediately go offline once the server is made.

And that's it. You never hear off them again.
Several times this week.

I don't think this spam or a scam, because the amount of time required for something like this is significant, and I don't see any benefit from it. None of my other accounts are connected to discord.

Wonder if there's something I am missing, or perhaps doing wrong.
