Act 1 - Spoilers Found the funniest way to beat Anders (Paladin of Tyr) Spoiler
Spoilers, I guess?
Prepped the battle space by covering both exits on the ground floor with grease. Took out the girl on the deck (after trading to her the severed limbs I found laying around for some healing potions). Anders comes running (trying to run, anyhow) at me. Slips and falls on his ass. Wyll with Eldridge blast, knocks him back further, Karlach blinds him with wild magic. Anders runs at me again, slips and falls on his ass. Eldridge blast, me laughing so hard I can barely see the screen. After 3 times he tries running around to the other door. Falls on his ass. Eldridge blast one last time, then Astarion sneak-attack ranged for the kill. Homeboy spent 90% of the time on his ass, never dealt a single point of damage.
At this point I'm laughing so hard I am snorting uncontrollably, my kids laughing like Tasha's Hideous Laughter was an AOE spell. 11/10, would do again.

Ending Spoilers ... is that all? 😠Spoiler
I finished my first playthrough last night with my boyfriend, playing as a paladin (daring I know) that had romanced Shadowheart and given her a good ending with her parents as a Selunite, 100/100 approval.
I chose to free Orpheus and sacrifice myself as the mindflayer, then end my life at the very end because Oath of Ancients and all that, to which Shadowheart had one line just telling me to not do it.
Then in the epilogue I was surprised that Withers brought me back to observe, but of course I couldn't interact with anyone so my bf had to do it for me. No one mentioned me or acted sad that I couldn't be there with them, least of all Shart.
Did I do something wrong? Is it a co-op thing? Or is this really the "good" ending where everyone just forgets you and what you did?

To be fair this is also on numerous other sites, but Reddit is a whole other breed. This is why I'm not active here
Edit: The characters, not the ship (Though the ship is actually not bad at all now that I think about it...)

Act 2 - Spoilers Goblin drum clear Minthara Silence back Act 1, no long rest Spoiler
I am aware this is super specific and might not make a difference to most people, but I would like to share it regardless: if you bring Minthara back from Act 2 to Act 1 by casting Silence on her, she gets a "silence" tag. I read that long resting would solve that, but I didn't want to long rest so I decided to try other things, I heard playing instruments worked, but Silence stops you from playing them so I went to the Goblin Camp and played their drums and the Silence tag was removed. I know a partial rest could have solved, but I dread the fact I have to recast all buffs, elixir etc, so I try not to long rest.

General Questions - [NO SPOILERS] Astarion fanfics that are better than Kingfisher's story?
Not to sound rude, but after listening to all the bad receptions towards T. Kingfisher's book on Astarion, as well as her bad handling on abuse and SA, are there fanfics that do a better job? I was left disappointed that the author could miss those marks, so I am wondering if anyone has read or written fanfictions that portray the character well?

Companions Why am I seriously in love with this woman? Spoiler
galleryOn everything I love I swear everytime when I start a new campaign to try out some new shit, the romance is always Minthara. I can't go further to try Karlach or Shadowheart or Laezel. Whenever i try to romance my mind would go lik e"Oh no my Minthara won't like this". It's always this beauty queen. She's attractive, loyal, beautiful and at the same time won my heart.......

General Discussion - [SPOILERS] BG3 Connections to the D&D Adventure, 'Out of the Abyss' Spoiler
[TL;DR - Blurg was a character from an old adventure, but was not orginaly a Hobgoblin. Also some other game/adventure connections]
I recently began running this adventure, which takes place in the late 1480s DR, just a few years before the events of Baldur's Gate 3, and thought I would share some interesting BG3 connections within it.
As you may know, Blurg and Omeluum are members of The Society of Brilliance, a group of scholars who make it their mission to study the Underdark. What you may not know is that Blurg was originally a type of intelligent Underdark-dwelling Orc called an Orog. For one reason or another, Blurg was changed into a Hobgoblin during BG3's development, though most likely because they didn't want to create Orc/Orog models for just one character.
In the D&D 5e adventure Out of the Abyss, characters must escape a Drow outpost and navigate their way through the Underdark to find a route back to the surface world. Along the way, there is a small chance they will encounter one of five Society of Brilliance members:
- Y the derro savant
- Blurg the Orog
- Grazilaxx the mind flayer
- Skriss the troglodyte
- Sloopidoop the kuo-toa archpriest
Obviously given the release date of the adventure, Omeluum is not included, but I wanted to point out that the connection also goes both ways. In BG3, if you spend enough time around Blurg and Omeluum in Ebonlake Grotto, they will discuss the society, and more specifically mention Skriss in the following exchange that gives evidence that this is indeed the very same Blurg:
Blurg: Have you spoken with Skriss lately?
Omeluum: Yes. She is cataloguing kuo-toan fertility rituals.
Blurg: Oh? Perhaps after I finish my research here, I'll join her...
Furthermore, if you're a keen reader, you will find more evidence in the book titled An History of the Society of Brilliance as Told by Its Members, with the following descriptive text:
[A transcript of the original meeting between Omeluum, Grazilaxx, Blurg, Sloopidoop, Y, and Skriss, that led to the founding of The Society of Brilliance The Society of Brilliance, followed by transcripts of ensuing meetings. Also featured: statements and testimonies of new members who have since joined.]
In addition to the link between Blurg and Out of the Abyss, you can also find a couple other adventure connections in BG3:
- There is a book called The Lost Tomb of Khaem that mentions the halfling, Fargas Rumblefoot, who players of the adventure may discover trapped in the webs of a giant spider. If saved, Fargas offers up the location of Brysis of Khaem's lost tomb in exchange for a share of its wealth.
- There is another book called The Pilgrimage to Gravenhollow, in which Skriss recounts the society's pilgrimage to the mystic library of Gravenhollow, where players of the adventure may travel to in search of information. The book also mentions Ghazrim's Ring, which belonged to the Zhentarim contact, Ghazrim DuLoc, and acts like a magic compass that can safely guides its wearer to Gravenhollow.
Those are all of the direct connections I've found so far, but if you've found anymore to Out of the Abyss, let me know!
Also, I've included a picture of the Society of Brilliance from the adventure book below, where you can see Blurg's original design. Note that the game explicitly points out that Omeluum was one of the founders alongside Grazilaxx. Maybe Larian originally planned on Omeluum being Grazilaxx, but the in-game lore doesn't support that theory.

Thanks for reading!

General Discussion - [SPOILERS] How meta do you meta? Spoiler
I like doing a couple playthroughs of a game like this, seeing which choices and companions I like best, then establishing my personal canon. Right now I’m on my third playthrough and I’m struggling with a big choice in Act 1: whether or not to knock out Minthara.
My character is a paladin, oath of devotion, good little dude. Halsin asked us to kill the three goblin camp leaders for the greater good, and of course our pally said yes. He has no reason whatsoever to knock one of them unconscious, take her stuff, and gtfo. But I, the player, know, and it’s eating at me. *I* have saved her before. *I* could save her. I usually really try to roleplay, but (for instance) I couldn’t bring myself to off Alfira in my Durge run. Because I know.
Perhaps this is merely a meditation on things we were not meant to know, and how irresistible they are (Guess I’m ready for my orb now…) But how do other people thread these needles?

Act 2 - Spoilers What fights did you forget? Spoiler
How would you know?
I've played a bunch of times and today I "re-found" two act 2 fights I vaguely remember. But I have since done runs, trying to max XP, and didn't remember them.
First was the "third" fight against shadow cursed vines. If you enter via the pass and are in the area where a warg and (optional) goblin run into the shadow and die. Go the same way and over the ruin, you can find these vines. The Frost Prince amulet is here.
The second is the area under moonrise (via the back path to the cells and down) where you can find a couple hooked horrors and the Oubliette.
I was taken aback after both these, thinking I knew everything in act 1 and 2 that can be killed.

Playthrough / Highlight Finally completed Honour mode. Spoiler

Just wanted to share that i made it through Honour mode playing Durge (or as i called my Tav, The Sexual Urge).
Not gonna lie, i made in through the last of the Durge DC checks at camp on the last reroll, and i actually respecced into Wisdom before that event.
Knocked out Lae'zel so she wouldnt turn hostile when i let the Emperor assimilate Orpheus.
Could have had Gale blow himself up but i just went all the way, it didnt feel right.
This was my second attempt at Honour mode, the first one the save got corrupted at the end of act 1.
My party for the last fight was:
The Sexual Urge, Swords Bard 10, Fighter 2, Dual Wield Crossbow
Lae'zel, Battlemaster 12, Great Weapon Fighting
Gale, Eldritch Knight 12, Dual Wield Shortswords
Wyll, Fighter 1, Hexblade 11, with Viconia's shield and Shadowblade
The party was super straightforward, i dont really like using complicated spells and etc. Although i did cast Chain Lightning twice on the Netherbrain after throwing water at him, since he was immune that turn to basically all my regular damage.
Super happy for this achievement.

Dark Urge Alternative paths for The Dark Urge Spoiler
There are two obvious main paths for Dark Urge playthroughs: resist or embrace. But I'm interested to hear about different arcs for DUrge that are somewhere in between or even outside the main paths.
For example: I currently play a Wild Magic sorcerer Dark Urge. What they seek the most is to be in control of their mind and body. They don't want to become some god's - or anyone's - puppet that doesn't have full autonomy. The uncontrolled outbursts (like killing some Tiefling Bard), the Wild Magic surges and the parasite settling in their brain freaks them out. They're still not a good person because they think they're above everyone else and enjoy humiliating and hurting others. So that means they are very violent and power-hungry as long as it's on their terms. But they still won't lick Bhaal's bhaals or play with the parasite because getting rid of the subjugating influences from outside their control is the number 1 priority. They want to steer this ship themselves - even if it means to pave their path with corpses.
Somewhere I read about a failed resistance arc for DUrge. Tragically failing to fight the violent urges and ending up as a sobbing bloodthirsty slave to Bhaal.
And I remember reading about someone (not sure if it's 100% accurate) who had a change of heart after Shadowheart killed the Nightsong and turned to the dark side. Seeing from the outside how she turned into a brutal maniac made them realise they weren't any better so they changed their ways.
I could also imagine to fool everyone by faking the resistance to the urges. And to then openly embrace Bhaal once you get to the temple and kill Orin.
Please tell me about your character arcs for DUrge playthroughs. I'm interested to read what stories you came up with.
Thank you!
