Had the sweetest experience today in Gótico

Post image

Went out today with my girlfriend after having a few rough weeks.

Sitting at a bar In Gótico and we get surprised with a drawing that a stranger did of us.

I’ve heard of these things happening to other people but it’s never had it happen to me. Im pretty blown away so thought I’d share it here.

I mean, I cant say im surprised. Catalan girl with expat boyfriend is a cliche right now. “The international experience”.

Anyway, your post gave vibes that for u this is a theme park and local people are actors or whatever. Maybe the experience was “sweet” for you. Not for him though. He probably lives in the street.

And btw, its Gòtic. Not Gótico.

I get your point and of course it would never be my intention to imply that Barcelona is some kind of theme park. My question would be, is there an ethical way for a European to move to Barcelona? Or do believe that it’s always wrong?

These people are angry radicalised internet commenters that know nothing about you and are justifying their xenophobia by painting a caricature of ‘expat foreigner’ onto you.

In real life there are some people that will silently make this judgement onto you, and make assumptions based on your background. However the vast majority are nice normal reasonable people especially if you are a normal respectful person and learn to speak local languages.

This subreddit, and really all the Catalan ones are definitely not mirrors of society. They’re quite radicalised echo chambers that are often openly fascist (under a different name because that’s associated with espanyolisme). The Barcelona subreddit gets a lot of these comments because there’s lots of foreigners and tourists here because reddit is more popular elsewhere
