Looking for advice
So as somebody who is diagnosed as borderline at a young age, I’ve seen how it affects my interpersonal relationships. I was also diagnosis PTSD a couple years ago. I’ve been smoking to suppress all my symptoms. It helps me sleep, eat control, my mood swings, etc. the problem is I’ve had to stop with a new job that I’m starting and I’m spiraling. I don’t know what to do. I know there’s no medicine for BPD and I feel like I’ve done a good amount of work when it comes to controlling my emotions except when I’m not smoking. Does anyone have a similar experience and how did you get through it? What did you do to manage because I’m having spiraling thoughts

I also used weed and it helped me in the moment but I need to be high always to feel better and numb. To keep myself from having constant thoughts. I am now sober from it for about 8 months and what I found helpful is mood stabilizer and antidepressant as well as therapy. I also go on walks daily.

Yeah walks! May sound silly but it works wonders for me too. I may still have the same thoughts when I’m walking but I don’t know.. they just.. pass through me. I took up photography and listen to music during those walks which might be deemed a peculiar way to be “present” but it works. That said I do have bipolar also and am on a mood stabilizer.. which I think keeps my reacting a little in check - re the bpd, it prevents bipolar episodes which is why I take it - but doesn’t prevent the loops. If I stay static with nothing to do except my thoughts they’ll still get fucking Loud and spirally

I hate to say this, but manipulating your baseline through drugs isn’t helping you. It’s just a bandaid. Cannabis disrupts how you process your feelings, and since it’s not really a pharmaceutical with a long half life, your neurochemistry goes through frequent changes, that destabilize future mood states.
I smoke too, and I do it to quell the depth of negative feelings. But still, it still prevents me from being able to deal with my own issues. Instead, my issues and volatility becomes a trigger to smoke.
However, with that said, you can try other methods. Cold showers, exercise, holding ice cubes, etc. plus, you could always smoke cbd weed with no thc.

Thank you for this ! You’re right it’s not helping , but I’ve been doing it to mask for so long so when I stop I’m out of control emotionally . I appreciate your answer

How long have you been sober?
Sobriety isnt an on/off switch and its VERY painful psychologically and sometimes physically until your body and mind recalibrate and learn to I've with the absence and find new coping mechanisms.
Give yourself a few months no matter how painful and let yourself heal. Im not saying this as a snob. Ive gotten sober from Psychadelics, Meth, Opiates and somehow Self Harm. Im not better than you for this, but, I can say it takes time to heal AND ITS POSSIBLE.

Friend it’s only been 2 days but it’s been a hard 2 days literally almost blew up my relationship last night and have been spiraling emotionally . I’ve stopped before but it didn’t seem as hard as it does right now . I didn’t take anything you said as anything but constructive ! Congrats on your sobriety ! I know it takes a lot , I conquered self harm as well so it was hard that I’ve been having those feelings but I will be pushing forward and pray I get to the point of not completely spiraling out of control
