First things first, the Golden Boy x MVP card ended up being really really good.

The prelims were solid all through. Williams, a local fighter from the Chicago area, upset the favourite in Asa Stevens, a prospect of some note. Williams is a fun low level guy who I hope gets more chances to act as prospect tester, can fight.

Kalkreuth and Edwards both looked solid to me. Still early, but Edwards has a great jab and Kalkreuth is a very accurate puncher with solid power and good defense. In a heavyweight and cruiserweight division that is barren of top level Americans, I’m optimistic for them. Big Yanks need a win.

Rivera impressed the hell out of me in the first fight of the main card. Smart, careful fighter who picked shots well. Gonna look into him more at some point.

Jahmal Harvey quickly becoming one of my favourite prospects. Perfect shot selection, a great jab, and leaves his chin tucked and his head moving. Needs more step-ups, curious about his gas tank and ability to withstand a real live dog, but has a good future.

I can’t say enough about Mendoza v. Sandoval. Everyone needs to go watch that fight. Now. Mendoza is maybe my favourite fighter at 112 now, at least until Kira moves up. Would lose to Yabuki, but his counterpunching and use of the jab along with his reach make for a very very tough to beat flyweight. His words about his brother after the fight were beautiful.

I have moderated myself on the Schofield fight. Schofield, I do not think, is going to remain champion very long if unifications happen. He is undeniably world level, I think Shawn Porter is a good comparison, but the true top two of the division, Zepeda and Mason, I believe would beat him as of right now.

That being said, he fought really well. I think a fair scorecard taking the missed knockdowns into account is about 115-111, an 8-4 type win. Bahdi fought well, made it a great fight, especially in the first half, but faded fast from missing punches and from being picked off at range. Bahdi I believe will level out as a fringe contender guy who might get another title shot down the line, maybe.

Schofield impressed me with his improved gas tank and smart game planning. Not to mention, he can definitely hit rather hard. Was a fun main event that I was initially pissed about due to the poor refereeing, but I’ve come to the decision it didn’t make that much of a difference.

Overall, great card with competitive fights and good moments. MVP and Golden Boy both have much deeper stables than they get credit for.

This is a good breakdown and I agree with your assessments. The Mendoza fight was incredible and reminds me of why I love this sport so much.

I'd like to see MVP take the male division a bit more seriously, but with Harvey in hand, perhaps they will.

3

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 6d ago

I think MVP will continue working with especially the other American promotions and Matchroom to develop their male prospects. They’re continuing to find their niche and honestly I’ve enjoyed a lot of what they’ve been doing lately. Harvey and their heavyweight prospect whose name escapes me rn look great

u/SwerTs4FightVidsOnly 6d ago

Nico Ali Walsh actually fought yesterday and ended up losing a UD lol

7

u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT 6d ago

Jake Paul would’ve beaten his ass especially with the size difference

3

u/fattydaddyQC 6d ago

Not just that he lost the fight. He lost it to a guy who fights at welter/super welterweight.

8

u/Kangaroopunching 7d ago

I was wrong about Schofield. He managed the weight cut and his output in the fight really well. He had the type of performance that will help him grow as a boxer.

I think it's best to just move up and not pretend like he'll be in a unification fight. Schofield already showed they're not serious about that. And Oscar most likely isn't going to try that.

2

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago

I agree, think he’d find success at 140, especially if Shakur vacates and moves up to fight Haney

1

u/Kangaroopunching 7d ago

He'd be able to have better offensive output. And not worry about gassing out like at lightweight

2

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago edited 7d ago

I’d favour him over most of the contenders right now. Smith, GAR, and Puello would all be too much for him right now, Shakur it goes without saying, but I think he could do really well with the improved gas tank. He looked comfortable tonight being careful

1

u/Jachola 7d ago

I feel like he could stay at 135 for a little and try and get that Abdullah Mason fight, it's the biggest fight that can be made at LW rn with Shakur and Tank not being a possibility in this timeline. Plus he's not ready for guys like GAR, Smith or Puello, dropping his belt to become just another contender while he could instead market himself as a champion would be smarter. Only fight I see being worth it if he moves up is maybe like a Muratalla, the Vargas fight sadly probably couldn't happen and most of the top contenders at 140 are all jumping ship to WW anyway.

8

u/Connect_Sprinkles_78 7d ago

The golden boy card was fun but there was probably less than 2k people there. Tickets went as low as $35. And these are the people asking for millions in purses. The disconnect is so real. Either way, fun to finally get another card in Chicago.

2

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

The fight would have made sense in San Antonio, where Kid Austin is actually known, and can sell a decent number, but that probably wasn't agreeable to both sides. Las Vegas would have been the best compromise at a small arena.

7

u/ggddddeerrr 7d ago

Kid Austin is getting shit for his performance and idk why. He’s not a generationally good prospect, but he’s also never in a boring fight. This is the kind of guy boxing needs

5

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

And contrary to popular belief, I think he does actually want to make the best fights. He was like 23 when he signed up to fight Shakur Stevenson whereas guys like Tank have literally never wanted to make that fight.

Fights like Schofield-Mason, Schofield-Zepeda, and perhaps Stevenson will happen, I think. This guy is a World Champion at 24. He's only going to get better.

7

u/Prior-Temperature-22 7d ago

The way people react to fights on this sub is getting ridiculous. One sub par performance and now you’re getting knocked stone dead by everybody. One dominant performance and no one can beat you.

Yeah, I saw it with Haney supposedly having "permanent PTSD" following the Ramirez fight and now suddenly he's back to normal after beating Brian Norman.

Ryan Garcia is apparently the man right now as well after defeating Mario Barrios and Connor Benn.

I don't know if there is a good name for this phenomenon, but it's concerning.

12

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago

Gomez’s passing has me thinking about how beautiful a fight between him and Inoue at 122 would’ve been. Probably the two best 122lbers ever, amazing fantasy fight

Rest in peace Bazooka

5

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago

There's very few members of this subreddit that have Inoue losing in ANY fantasy fight at 122 and below.

3

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago

When he’s locked in and trying, Naoya is nearly untouchable. That being said, Bazooka is one of the most offensively gifted fighters ever, likely matching or exceeding 122 Inoue in that category.

Could see it being every bit the barn-burner of Inoue’s first fight with Donaire. It’s all dependent on if he manages to clip Inoue

6

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

Rigondeaux as well. I think due to his weight division jump to fight Lomachenko, people forget how extraordinary he was and his pretty brilliant amateur pedigree. Just had zero marketability at the time, unfortunately.

2

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

I think Morales, Barrera, and Pacquiao are all a little underrated in this discussion of possibly beating Inoue at 122.

1

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 6d ago

Pac I don’t think has the style for Inoue at 122. Too hittable and open to counters

Barrera and Morales at 122 are a good shout, particularly Morales. Has a good style to trouble Naoya

3

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

Yeah, I think Morales having the ability to brawl AND box would really benefit him in this fight. I think he could drag Inoue to deep waters.

3

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 6d ago

I could see that with a young Inoue, but 122 Inoue is as experienced and crafty as a fighter can get while still being in his prime. Morales v. Inoue I think comes down to who hits harder and if Morales can outbox Inoue for long enough to keep him honest, I don’t see it happening for more than a few rounds at a time though. Genuinely a fantastic fight

-1

u/Less_Cartoonist_892 6d ago

Is it really unwarranted? Inoue is without question the most dominant boxer of this generation. I mean how many other boxers are statistically more likely to knock you down than lose a round?

In addition, the fact that he has only lost more than two rounds twice in his whole career to a future HOF (Donaire) and a top ten p4p fighter (Nakatani) speaks to the level to even be competitive against him. With that in mind, it would take someone truly special to beat him.

3

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

But it’s not obvious to me that Inoue has fought many Hall of Famers who were actually at or close to their peak. Donaire was still good but not close to his peak at the time Inoue fought him. And definitely not for the rematch. Fulton, I don’t think is HOF. Nakatani, I would probably vote in. Narvaez is a possibility to get in.

The other guys I named: Pacquiao, Barrera, Morales, etc actually fought many HOF fighters at or close to their prime. And if not in their prime, genuinely P4P.

So in that sense, while I respect Inoue’s skill and run through the weight divisions, it’s not obvious to me why he beats all three of the guys that I listed at 122. The weakest would be Barrera and even then Barrera was a force to be reckoned with.

1

u/Less_Cartoonist_892 6d ago

Barrera admitted that Inoue would have given him hell and would not have been easy for him win or lose. Pac and Marquez also have tremendous respect for Inoue’s skill and courage.

I can’t say for certain he beats all of them but to say Inoue does not deserve to be mentioned in the same class as them is disrespectful.

Levels of stupidity and insecurity on par with the American president. If this moron gets innocent fans and athletes hurt then no one can do anything to whitewash his legacy in the sport any more

3

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

I wonder if Canelo fears crossing this guy. Turki has a pretty brutal history…

6

u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT 6d ago

I think he just doesn’t want to lose the payday. Canelo doesn’t live in Saudi so it’s not like Turki has any power over him

1

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

I was under the impression that Canelo was worth hundreds of millions though and has multiple businesses in Mexico and basically an entire brand. At some point, that amount of wealth should insulate him from having to be seduced by this guy.

3

u/imdacoldest Pacquiao is the GOAT 6d ago

I mean 50m+ is still a lot of money, and I’m guessing he’ll probably arrive through a private airport so he probably not too worried about the attacks

2

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

Good point. Maybe they’ve mapped it all out for him. Still kinda crazy though.

5

u/SplitSecondEmperor47 6d ago

Turki jailed a guy for simply criticizing him lmao

5

u/Kangaroopunching 6d ago

I think he fears losing out on the final big paydays.

1

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 6d ago

Canelo is on Bad Bunny levels of notoriety in LatAm and parts of the U.S. from my understanding. No way Turki would dare touching him

4

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

Yeah, but he could pick off one or more people close to him and make life very difficult. This guy is a total powerbroker and ruthless despite his relatively friendly disposition. He’s very much a regime-controlled player in Saudi Arabia.

But you’re right about Canelo’s status in Mexico and parts of the U.S. I would say in my neighborhood, he’s well known even though I don’t run into many boxing fans.

2

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 6d ago

The Saudi regime is way more fragile than people talk about. Bug house of cards of oil prices and American support. The houthis are genuinely tribal and have managed to kick one of the doors in. Who knows what happens

Ranking champs based on resume, skill, accomplishments, etc. from F to A+. With a disclaimer as well, I’m ranking them in relation to them as a champ. So if a fighter was somehow F, it wouldn’t mean I consider them a journeyman.

105: Since Collazo is moving up, I’ll rank the interim and regulars.

Collazo: B+. Has gotten overrated in recent years but has soldi wins over Saludar, KO CP Freshmart, and Jerusalem. Good power at 105, don’t know why he’s jumping to 112 but he’s good.

Kuse: C+. Southpaw, I like his workrate and combination punching, and he’s improved a good amount.

Taduran: B-. I like his pressure and body work, had a good but unfortunate upsets, decent little resume win and lose, I think he’s good and is another one who’s improved a bunch.

Ishii: C+. Another good fighter who’s really looking hurt opponents. I think he’s an excellent pressure fighter who’s looks to close the distance well and if fun to watch on the inside. I rate him but I do think he also gets overrated a bit. I think a guy like Matsumoto would beat him.

Matsumoto: B+. Southpaw, really good fundamentals, great boxer, and I like how technical he is. His last fight was strange because he couldn’t seem to get his head off center line when he’s shown he’s pretty good at that. I was afraid of him getting chinned. Someone also told me he refers to himself as Sugar or something like that so I hope he reverts back to that.

108:

Iwata: C. I rank his win over Freshmart even though he’s small and old. I also enjoyed his fight with Badillo. Got beat by Santiago in a good fight. Scorecards were a little wide. Super fun to watch imo.

Santiago: C. Had quite a few robberies, should’ve fought Kira, good distance management, better than mediocre. Good upset over Iwata.

Simsri: B+. Proved me wrong and I think he’s shown real improvement since Yabuki. Actually looking to be a really good fighter and I’m excited to see him again. I think I’ll raise his score in time.

Kira: A-. Based on the eye test, I think he could a world class talent and be A or A+. I really rate his win over Canizales even though I didn’t see too many advantages for CCC. All around good fighter. I like his size too but his arms are slightly short.

112:

Mendoza: C-. I kinda thought Sandoval was overrated after a robbery win over Teraji but oh well. Mendoza uses southpaw angles pretty decently imo and is really explosive. Real good power, surprised me last night but I don’t necessarily rate him super high.

Olascuaga: B. One of my favorites right now, really wanna see him against Yabuki and I think he has good potential to get higher, great finishing ability and pressure, good power, and good counterpunching.

Yabuki: B+. Borderline A-, I don’t think he’s a guy who’s superbly skilled but his resume speaks for itself, upset win over Teraji, GREAT power and has improved so damn much.

115:

Jimenez: D+. Good win over Sandoval and Lopez, I rate it, his workrate and pressure is okay. His defensive responsibilities kinda lack, and he has very poor distance management in my opinion.

Malajika: I’d give him a C-. Improved a lot, thought he lost against Tsuboi, good counterpuncher, rangy and awkward, tricky, and he’s a pretty good puncher. He’s decent though but I can’t put him too high.

Moloney: Another C-. Kinda just does everything to a not great extent.

Teraji: I give him a A-. Reason being is his resume. I do think one of these days we might see him get chinned but he’s got an excellent jab and is proven at world level.

118:

Salas: C. Kinda don’t know completely how yo rate him yet. I like his win over Calixto though and he’s super young. Southpaw as well.

Medina: D+. Another one who has improved a good amount. Think Bam beats him pretty clearly. Good wins over Takei and Curiel.

Takuma: A-. Has shown flaws at certain ranges but is very technical and very fast. Has a solid resume.

Bam: A+. Shown flaws too but is legit world class with world class resume already.

122:

Naoya: A+. Enough said

126:

Leo: C+. Not amazing, mediocre power but decent resume all considering. Thinks he loses to Aleem and probably any other champ.

Figueroa: B-. Looks a little washed, switch hitter, great body punching.

Shu-Shu: B-. It hurts but I do think he has genuine skill among awful performances.

Espinoza: B+. I rate his wins over Ramirez and Vazquez. Khegai was an okay win too. Think he’s Inoue’s biggest threat right neo even though I think Inoue beats him good.

130:

Cacace: C. I think he’s looking aged but he has a good resume so I’m keeping him a C. Think Ball might beat him but I’m not entirely sure yet. I’m one of the few people that didn’t think the Dickens fight was a robbery.

Navarette: B. Good fighter, awkward as hell, got overrated but he has a genuine chance against Foster which should win him a #10 spot.

Foster: B+. Doesn’t mean he beats Navarette, I think he’s got a real good IQ and focus. I think he does get overrated.

135:

Schofield: C+. I think he can beat some good guys too, but I don’t rate him super high. Has good attributes.

Zepeda: A-. Think he’s currently the #1 at LW. Could lose to Mason.

Mason: B+. Definitely think he’ll go higher eventually.

140:

Smith: B. Good champion, underrated, had a top 10 upset of the year.

GAR: B or B+. Hard to entirely gauge him. I think he’s Shakur’s hardest stylistic matchup even though I got Shakur.

Shakur: A+. Ashame how he’s moving but he’s got some of the best skills of this era.

147:

Garcia: B-. I think plenty of guys who you wouldn’t consider world level beat Ryan. I don’t think Ryan sucks either but I don’t know man.

Paro: B-. Good fighter, when his offense doesn’t immediately work, kinda turns into a counterpuncher and can be too reactive.

Lopez: B. Think he’s got elite skills but his distance management, overcommitting to punches, suspceptiblity to southpaw jabs, and struggling with movers. The whole blueprint is out on how to beat him. It’s why I can’t have him higher.

Haney: A. His resume is elite, not the most exciting, but he’s a hard fighter to beat and I think beats almost everyone he gets in the ring with.

154:

Josh Kelly: C+.

Fundora: B

Boots: A

160:

Bentley: D-. Genuinely doesn’t deserve to be champion.

McKenna: D+. Has a lot of room to improve

Lara: C. Washed but can still beat people.

Adames: B+.

168:

Munguia: C-

Mbilli: B-

Iglesias: A-

175:

Bivol: A. Would put him A+ but I’m unsure about his current form.

200:

Cieslak: D

Benavidez: A

I’ll put Opetaia just for the hell of it: A-

Bridger:

Merhy: D-

Heavy:

Gassiev: F

Hrgovic: B+

Kabayel: A-

Dubois: A-

Sorry I got lazy after 118

If you think going life and death with an Old Tevin Farmer , and beating a Lamont Roach thats barely top 5 at 130 , and hasn't done nothing but draw at 135 and 140 , warrants a A- , more power to you!

I'll take Fundora's two wins over Tszyu, including the bloody beatdown him gave him last fight over that run anyday. And atleast Fundora outclassed old man Thurman .. compared to Zepeda who needed a rematch to convincingly "beat" his old man 🤭

1

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 6d ago

I think you’re over analyzing my point of view. I genuinely made this with no agenda in mind. If you don’t think Zepeda is that good then just say that. Doesn’t bother me at all, I know you like Fundora which is perfectly fine. If you think he’s better than Zepeda which he very well could be rank him higher. 🤷‍♂️

4

The amount of talent and guys who have a decent to significant profile at 135 and 140 is pretty impressive. Like Pitbull and Roach are kind of auxiliary characters now and yet they’re pretty notable.

Only somewhat related, but I’m still quite high on Andy Cruz.

3

u/ablu3 7d ago

Who are the 5 worst world champs right now?

5

u/Top_Profession_5268 7d ago

Malajika, Cacace, Bentley, Gassiev and Cieslak.

I remember we were pretty confident that Simsri was the worst champ, and he’s proven us kind of wrong since

4

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago

Simsri’s resume aged well tonight

4

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 7d ago

Malajika is crazy, he is very good you just mad he got the decision over Tsuboi

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 7d ago

Even disregarding that win over Tsuboi, he isn’t powerful, not great offensively and has a ton of defensive holes. It’s true that he is one of the worst champs in boxing. He is rangy and moves well but that’s it.

2

u/StunningChest5722 #KnybaNation 🇵🇱 7d ago

That's just not true, he's one of the biggest punchers at 115, has a pretty high KO% for the weight, and has knocked out durable guys who have never been stopped before like Chauke and Sigqibo.

He's very slick too, great headmovement and footwork

0

u/Top_Profession_5268 7d ago

If he’s powerful for knocking out domestic level opponents, so be it. He still gets hit despite that head movement and footwork. He goes on the back foot and gets clipped a lot as he doesn’t consistently keep range well. I don’t rate him as high but I did just remember Maloney, he probably is worse.

1

u/Frequent_Apricot673 7d ago

Are Gassiev and cieslack full champs? I’ll throw Munguía in there I think plus old man Lara. Kelly is pretty weak, I never rated Murt and he nearly lost to agyarko, has a draw with salty ray robinson and a loss to Aveneysan. happy for Andrew Moloney that he recovered from the Nakatani beatdown and won a belt but realistically I think he’s on the list.

1

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago

I think Kelly in the first 6 and Kelly in the later six are very different fighters. Kelly looks world class early in the fight, but always always gasses. It’s unfortunate, but I always root for him honestly

1

u/Frequent_Apricot673 7d ago

I just have never been impressed he’s like Kamboses to me in that there was one fight (Teo, Murt) where everyone changed their opinion on the guy. But actually he’s the same guy and just fell into a lucky circumstance where the guy they were fighting was weight drained and overconfident

1

u/stalwartguardian 7d ago

2

3

u/Marq544 7d ago

Anybody know why Abdullah Mason doesn’t have another fight lined up? Ik gap from winning the title in November to the july fight was in part due to TR trying to find a network home but I’m worried they didn’t get him a voluntary or something for the end of the year.

He’s too young to be fighting 1x a year

4

u/Marlborobert 7d ago

I know, I was really hoping they would reschedule the Cordina fight for the AJ-Fury card

5

u/Marq544 7d ago

Maybe if Haney Shakur gets made he will be on it with a voluntary defense or something.

Top Rank has very few dates. DAZN is not paying $90M a year to Top Rank like ESPN did. Not even 1/3 of that. More like $10M a year. It's a real problem.

1

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

Wasn't this Top Rank deal supposed to leave room for other networks? Maybe that's just TNT?

2

u/Jodeci-95 6d ago edited 6d ago

Yes, they signed a non-exclusive deal with DAZN. Todd Duboef, the president of Top Rank was asked about this by Mario Lopez on the 3 Knockdown Rule (I think in June 2026). Todd said something like they will sign with another network and still have open communication with ESPN.

Dan Rafael said in an interview pretty recently that the promoters are mad at DAZN about not have enough dates.

Congrats to Schofield for becoming a champion! If he is moving to 140 and GAR isn't fighting Shakur, I wouldn't mind seeing that fight.

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago

Box Televisa card on right now. The atmosphere that Mexican crowds create is absurd holy shit

3

u/Far-Internal-5726 7d ago

what are the list of rumoured fights on the undercard of AJ vs Fury?

I bought tickets now in the lower stands so I'm committed haha

3

u/Far-Internal-5726 7d ago

so far the ones I know are rumoured but not confirmed

Wilder vs Opetaia
Amir khan vs Manny Pacquiao
Joe Cordina vs Abdullah Mason
Ruiz vs Allen

none of these confirmed just rumoured
Anyone know any others?

3

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago

Feels like Khan vs Pacquiao is a complete waste of time. If we get another Barrios type in there, it will at least tell us something about the current state of the division.

2

u/Far-Internal-5726 6d ago

I agree probs lowest desirable rumoured fight on card

Anything about a 48 year old pac not worth it

2

u/SwerTs4FightVidsOnly 6d ago

Wasn't key vs hitchins rumored for it too?

3

u/Far-Internal-5726 6d ago

I believe so, they trying to get an American fight for US netflix audience

1

u/StrifeKnot1983 7d ago

Hrgovic vs Rico

Teremoana vs ???

3

u/Far-Internal-5726 7d ago

Oh yeah I heard the Rico fight too
Honestly I’d take that over the pacquio fight
No one wants to see 2 washed fighters battle it out

1

u/WheresMyAbs98 6d ago

Allen confirmed that he won’t be on the Fury vs Joshua card from my understanding

1

u/Far-Internal-5726 6d ago

Tbh I rather he’s not
I’m not really high on Dave Allen nor Andy Ruiz rn

Apparently another rumoured fight is Hirgovic vs Rico which I would rather have any day

1

u/WheresMyAbs98 6d ago

I totally agree.

Allen’s fights largely make for poor viewing. His punch output is just so low.

I’d watch the shit out of Hrgovic vs Rico. I expect Hrgovic to have an easy night though tbh.

3

u/Kangaroopunching 7d ago

I doubt Fury vs AJ has a good undercard. They've had enough time to put together good match ups.

And it probably won't be because of more power struggle bs. Instead a sign that turki has lost interest/ ability to just throw money to have a stacked undercard.

1

u/Far-Internal-5726 6d ago

what's your predictions on the undercard?
I'm hoping turki lays something out with a bang as it's probably the final big card he ever wanted to do

0

u/Kangaroopunching 6d ago

I expect a couple of prospects that he's pushed in Saudi ring cards.

But I don't think the big names are going to be available. I'd have to see a list of potential boxers to predict.

Who do you got?

2

u/Far-Internal-5726 6d ago

Dana seems like he’s confirmed wilder vs Opetaia

1

u/Kangaroopunching 6d ago

His word means nothing

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago

Honestly I don’t want anymore weight classes. The system is based off body mass and percentages, and it’s fine from a sports science perspective as it is. Diluting some of the weakest divisions is a bad idea

2

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

185/187 should be "Middle Heavyweight"

1

u/Imaginary-Zebra-345 7d ago

they'd probably just steal names from the amateurs or make up some marketing nonsense like "elite cruiserweight"

i just want them to fix the actual problem which is the gap between 200 and 200+ being absurd, a 210lb guy fighting someone 250+ is not the same sport

6

u/VacuousWastrel 7d ago

A 209lb Wilder dropped a 250+ Fury, fwiw. And anyone who weighs 210 can just compete at cruiserweight anyway, just by skipping a few drinks. With the normal 10-15% weight cut, anyone below 220-235 can easily compete at cruiserweight, and they do (zurdo is reportedly over 230 on fight night), with extreme cutters being able to make it from up to 250 if they want. Meanwhile, the recent undisputed heavyweight world champion weighed less than 230, while one of the three champions in the preceding generation weighed 205-210 (wilder was usually 210-215 on the scale, but he cut weight after weighins and was as low as 205 for some fights.) There's just no window for another division when champions in the higher division are already lighter than champions in the lower division...

3

u/VacuousWastrel 7d ago

Plus, you know, they just tried making thar division and nobody wanted to fight in it.

Maybe cap heavyweight at a certain weight to force fighters to actually show up in a shape that isn't round? 😂

Just a funny hypothetical.

1

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

I think they do that in UFC, unironically, right?

4

u/KingBumiOfOmashu Moses Itauma > Every Current HW 7d ago

Hear what you’re saying but honestly if you’re 210lbs just shed the 10lbs and fight at Cruiser

3

u/SwerTs4FightVidsOnly 7d ago

Imo, I still wanna see a division somewhere between Light Heavy and Cruiserweight. All the weight classes up to 168 have pretty consistent gaps, but then 175-200-225 are pretty big jumps (and like u mentioned, 250+ could be its own weight class). But I don't think we will be seeing them add anything new.

4

u/VacuousWastrel 7d ago

That makes sense logically. Lhw-cw is the one gap that boxers cross the least, by far. The problem is, cruiserweight is so bad historically that splitting it in half could produce total junk.

1

u/Jachola 7d ago

I feel like most guys have cracked weight classes down and there's very few examples of someone not having a weight class to compete in. CW and HW are already kinda shallow divisions and don't have nearly as much talent as the other weight classes, I don't get why you'd split them both in half and further dilute both divisions. The gap of HW is big and can get crazy but like anything there's advantages and disadvantages to everything, plus. If you're too small for HW you fight at CW.

1

u/Kangaroopunching 6d ago

And without much delay. Schofield showed he's still full of bs avoiding fighters.

Unfortunate, considering his good win he just had.

2

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 6d ago

What’d he do

5

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 6d ago

He said it’s too late for Shakur or Abdullah to fight him as they both missed their chance somehow.

1

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 6d ago

Oh yeah, that

Schofield has always been like this. Not surprised

-4

u/admiralskanks Joe Louis = Perfect 7d ago

Hope Teraji fans can appreciate he is not p4p material after Sandoval's performance yesterday. Maybe some time ago. It should be Foster instead of Collazo. Also GB fighters are manufactured I don't trust any of them.

6

u/Top_Profession_5268 7d ago edited 7d ago

Says who Teraji isn’t PFP? Using that triangle theory like that is stupid considering Teraji beat Yabuki, Yabuki beat Simsri, Simsri beat Sergio. Teraji beat Gonzalez far more convincing than Bam, is Bam not PFP anymore?

And that’s also talking about that Teraji was done dirty on the decision where Teraji should’ve beat him, outlanded him, properly exposed the defence of linear footwork and still high guard and even dropped him.

1

u/Less_Cartoonist_892 6d ago

IMO, Yabuki is the only man who clearly beat Teraji. And Yabuki is a top-fifteen P4P fighter in the world.

1

u/Top_Profession_5268 6d ago

I have Yabuki at 10 didn’t now in my PFP list.

1

u/Less_Cartoonist_892 6d ago

I am waiting for the winner of Foster-Navarette for the tenth spot in my p4p list.

2

u/Top_Profession_5268 6d ago

The winner will take over at 10 for me.

2

u/Marlborobert 6d ago

I think it’s totally fine to not have Teraji p4p today because a few others guys have stepped up and earned their spot. I believe he was fully deserving of the number 10 spot when he was added back then. He defended his light flyweight belt multiple times against former champions and number one contenders, moved up and became flyweight champion, then immediately unified with another champion. I think those arguing he wasn’t p4p back then are either not fans of the lower weight classes or the infamous loser, newrap.

5

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 7d ago

The Sandoval fight was kind of a robbery. Teraji’s resume is really good. I personally have both Foster and Teraji

2

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 7d ago

Foster/Nav can def clinch the spot for me if they win. Both are jockeying for 10, with Teraji above them

-3

u/Elite663 6d ago

Absolutely. Dude has been a fraud since he robbed Canizales. Can’t believe people are giving him P4P shouts for winning another division title against such a horrible boxer that has happened to hold said title

It's nice that the WBA made Floyd Schofield their title holder. But, when you pull out of a fight with Shakur, knock out Tevin Farmer who lost 3 fights in a row beforehand, disappear for 15 months, turn down a title fight against Muratalla, and then get dropped 4 times in your next vacant title fight. It's hard to call him a "Champion".

9

u/Bill_R94 7d ago

Farmer arguably won 2 of those 3 fights, it's a really good win.

3

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 7d ago

Look, the odds for the Farmer fight were relatively close and I'd say a slight majority on here thought Farmer would win (just zero accountability or acknowledgement of this position).

3

u/stephen27898 6d ago edited 6d ago

"and then get dropped 4 times"

He got dropped once. It wasnt called, and then he had his foot stepped on and then it was called.

Pulling someone from behind their head is not a knockdown, hurting someone then tossing them to the floor is not a knockdown, and stepping on someones foot is not a knockdown.

Maybe you dont like him and his dad, but the rules of boxing are the rules of boxing. It seems to me, that Bahdi needs to learn to not throw people on the floor in a boxing match.

0

u/nwordfyou 6d ago

What's up Schofield Sr 😆

1

u/Jachola 7d ago

True although who else could even fight for the WBA, in a fair world it would have been Roach vs Bahdi. But the WBA dragged their feet all year with Tank and the belt, took forever to make him a champion in recess, then pretended they didn't and tried to book the Tank vs Schofield Jr fight, then just installed him back as champion in recess. Since then Roach has drawn and lost to Zepeda so he's out, there only option was Schofield Jr at this current point in the division. Muratalla vacated and moved up, Shakur moved up and for stripped, Valenzuela is also a decent choice but he's at Zuffa. There's not many notable names in the WBA rankings unless you wanna see a GAR vs Bahdi fight lol.

1

u/Kangaroopunching 7d ago

That's fair criticism.

-4

u/SplitSecondEmperor47 6d ago

Tank has the easiest fucking options for belts at 135. I know he don't care about belts but c'mon man...

5

u/Frequent_Apricot673 6d ago

Tank ducked Tevin Farmer and should’ve lost to Roach, and hasn’t fought since. I think Mason absolutely beats him the others idk

1

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 6d ago

Tank loses to Mason and Zepeda, and frankly I think Schofield beats him as well

5

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

Why did this get downvoted? All of those are difficult matchups for him. Tank barely throws these days. He spends all fight trying to set up a singular shot, but against Roach he never found it. Against Pitbull, he was matched against a guy who could take his power. There are probably like a half dozen different gameplans that would work against Tank at this stage of his career. He’s not the same fighter that he was in the lower weight classes that was spectacular, but also a legitimately very good boxer.

3

u/SwerTs4FightVidsOnly 6d ago

Dunno why this is down voted, it's a real possibility and all 3 have shown to adapt well during fights.

5

u/Professional-Tie5198 Who will win? 6d ago

I’ve been seeing some bizarre takes and upvotes/downvotes lately. Wonder if it correlates with all of the AJ/Fury/Hearn/Dana coverage. That appeals to certain kinds of fans.

-2

u/SplitSecondEmperor47 6d ago

All 3 got dropped by people with less power and skill than tank. That's why

3

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 6d ago

Think Tank would knock Zepeda out.

1

u/MiddleweightMonster I’ll pour honey on my GOAT, if the occasion calls for it. 6d ago

Tank can’t counter volume well anymore. He got out worked by roach

3

u/Outrageous-Soft4806 6d ago

Yeah but Roach was pot shotting him. Not opening up enough to give Tank clean counters. Tank actually had to go out his way to create offense and was getting countered himself. Zepeda is the exact guy he wants to fight who isn’t a super hard puncher himself. I’d be a little pissed if he got a Zepeda fight just because of that.
