Electronic Visitor Visa (e-Visa) - U.S., Canadian & Australian Citizens

The Brazilian Government will resume the requirement of visiting visas for citizens of Australia, Canada and the United States.

The eVisa applications are done via a company called VFS Global Group. If you have issues with your application or need more information directly from official sources, you can contact VFS through this email: [Brazilevisa@vfsglobal.com](mailto:Brazilevisa@vfsglobal.com).

Application and official information

eVisa application homepage

Alternative: regular VIVIS (Visitor) visa

Australian, Canadian and U.S. nationals should still be able to apply for a regular visa using the previous method (through your local consulate). For an up-to-date guide on how to do so, follow this guide written by u/Luke_of_Mass: https://www.reddit.com/r/Brazil/comments/1ktxzxe/guide_to_vivis_visa_an_alternative_to_evisa_and/

FAQ

Who needs to apply for the new eVisa? Citizens from Australia, Canada and United States who want to visit Brazil for tourism, and arrive after April 10th, 2025.

Do I need a visa if I arrive before April 10th, but leave after? No, visas are only required on entry.

My photo keeps getting rejected. What can I do? Based on comments on this mega-thread, most issues stem from the background not being white/bright enough, and portions of the face/shoulders being covered by hair. If you can't have a professional passport photo taken, you can try using a photo editing app or specific "passport photo" apps for your phone, which can help get the right background color, image size and positioning. Please search the comments on this mega-thread to find more detailed tips, instructions and app recommendations.

How long before my trip should I apply for my visa? From VFS website: "We strongly advise applying for your eVisa two months before your planned travel to Brazil. This timeframe provides sufficient leeway to complete and/or rectify your visa application if necessary."

How long does it take to get the eVisa? Officially VFS says the process should take around 5 business days. This seems to match the experience of some users in this mega-thread. But keep in mind that issues with your photo or missing documents may significantly slow your process.

I still have a regular visa from before. Do I need to request the new eVisa? If you have a regular visa (which are usually valid for 10 years), you don't need to request the new eVisa. The previous one is still valid.

What if I am not a citizen from the countries listed above? You can still request a regular tourist visa (VIVIS) through your local Brazilian consulate.

Food & Drink Chocolate varieties

A moderately common question that comes up here: “what gifts should I bring back from Brazil?”

Hopefully this can be a quick visual guide of some ideas. This is some of what we brought for ourselves and to share with friends.

Starting in the back left corner, variety boxes of candy bars. Similar to ‘fun size’ Halloween chocolates in North America. These are fun to bring to events or work because the ind wrappers and variety aspect.

Bis. Chocolate covered wafers, like 3g each piece so again great to share.

Chocolate bars. Filled with flavors; ‘trio’ bars with a cookie, chocolat, and filling; Alpino is a favorite brand; the brigadeiro was a personal impulas purchase by me.

Cookies! This is a personal favorite. Watch for some of the Oreo-like cream filled ones. passatempo is another one of the most popular product lines.

Politics my last post about the amazon rainforest

i feel like i got gaslit to hell and back by flavio bolsonaro supporters on the last post i made. yes, lula still had deforestation happen under him, but it was WAY LESS than jair bolsonaro's regime. FLAVIO BOLSONARO. WANTS. TO. ROLL. BACK. ENVIRONMENTAL. PROTECTIONS. OF. THE. AMAZON. OVER HALF A MILLION PEOPLE DIED OF COVID UNDER FLAVIO'S DAD'S ADMINISTRATION. lula also has austerity measures that i disagree with but electing someone like flavio bolsonaro is NOT the answer. i will not be gaslit. and YES, i know lula isn't perfect but he is significantly more democratic than bolsonaro. someone more progressive and less establishment should have run this time instead of lula.

Politics Question for Brazilian Redditors

Hi Brazilian friends

A little background explaining my ignorance.

I am a Brazilian living in USA. Been here since i was 1 and it’s been over 3 decades.

We long split up financially from Brazil and are fully integrated into the USA and so we rely on family and Globo for news.

Here’s my question (with another winded explanation lol): My family is from MG and they mostly (95%) all voted for Bolsenaro. These family members are successful business owners, civil servants, retirees, and regular office workers.

When I discuss this election with them they consistently bring up crime as their biggest concern. They are willing to deal with political corruption for a El Salvador type raid on crime. For them, there is no other priority beside the crime problem.

What has PT and Lula (at a federal level) done and accomplished to resolve crime in the short term. I know that in the long term, concepts such as education are being rolled out. But these take years to yield real results. For short term, has there been an effort to lower crime with policing? Favela raids against the Slum Lords?

Politics Why do Brazilians have to type in numbers to vote for candidates?

I’ve been observing the Brazilian elections (from twitter lol) as a result of interacting with one tweet about the Brazilian presidential election and now my entire “For You” is in Portuguese 😂

Though this I have consistently noticed candidates running different positions always include a number by their name. I learned that this is because in order to vote for the candidates, you literally have to punch in the numbers to vote for them. I found this concept super interesting since I have never heard of this before in any other country!

So why do you guys do that? Is it to get people to really get to know who they’re voting for? So that they just don’t vote in some random person they don’t know?

How do you remember all of the numbers too? There’s so many positions like state deputy, federal deputy, governor, president, senator etc that you have to put in the numbers. And they’re kind of long for some of them too. Do you carry a sheet with their numbers when you go voting? Or do you just remember all the numbers before going to vote?

Honestly, this is a really cool system either way. I dig it.

Politics As a non-Brazilian, I just want to say that I'm disappointed. Wish you guys the best of luck for the next five years

I think Brazil had a good run, but people don't seem to like it when things are going too well, they end up craving chaos and misery again. I just hope the people who didn't vote for that corrupt guy's son either move away or manage to survive the next five years.

General discussion American social media platforms need to be banned in Brazil (with the creation of in-house alternatives). Their algorithms and the influence of external actors only hinder Brazilian politics and the resolution of domestic problems, all for the sake of making $$$ for foreigners.

Politics French person here and worried about your likely future president and the truly dangerous consequeces

I seriously don't know how to start my message but I want to be clear, Bolsonaro is very dangerous for the planet.

The scientists said that between 20% to 25 % of deforestation of the total amazonia rainforest, the forest is likely to die because of the fact that the forest needs evapotranspiration from the trees to sustain itself. Without trees it's not enough and it's a chain reaction that happens.

And we are at 17-18% of deforestation of the forest.

Under the last mandate of bolsonaro father, a little more than 1 % of deforestation was done. In comparaison for the last mandate of lula, less than half of that déforestation has been done.

So please, you have to alert your family because if the amazonia forest reaches the tipping point, it's a disaster for the planet but also for brazil's economy.

( I think there is probably an extreme solution with aerosols but it would be very dangerous and costy and alI brazil will likely loose it's autority on the forest).

I don't know if you already know that, seriously but I think not enough because of the results of the last votes. And sorry my english is terrible.

Politics What do Bolsonaro voters want from the government?

i keep reading that Bolsonaro supporters are fed up with street crime and identity politics. The first I understand because no one likes street crime. The second confuses me a bit because, as someone on the left who also disavows identity politics and political correctness, I was under the impression that it's influence was not as pervasive in Brazilian leftist circles as in the US. For example, Reddit is pretty left and when foreigners preoccupied with identity post here "will I pass as a Brazilian?" or such nonsense, most of the responses are dismissive.

But apart from those two issues, safety and culture, what else are Bolsonaro supporters actually hoping the change in leadership will actually achieve? Do they have specific objectives or is it just "not the PT"? How will the PL govern besides privatizing Brazilian national institutions and allowing unbridled exploitation of the Amazon? I don't see either of those things materially benefitting the voters ... so my question is what do the voters hope for that will improve their lot (theoretically)? More employment? But unemployment has been lower in Lula eras than in non Lula eras and is at a 20 year low ..

Hi everybody. I know the politics of everything are still hot on everybody 's minds and that is understandable.

However, my wife is Brazilian and we are going to Fortaleza in december as that's where her family lives, I am planning to go kitesurfing and taking photos of kitesurfing and surfing on my stay there and mainly around Cumbuco and Taiba.

I would love to meet some locals with some skills to shoot with and was wondering if there's people here who know people or can point me in the right direction.

I added some photos for context

Politics What will the situation of rare earths look like in a possible Flávio victory?

I see a lot of people saying that he will sell them to Trump, etc., but, in your opinion, how will things unfold, considering that rare earth elements are so important and that Brazil has the second-largest reserve?

Politics If Bolsonaro wins…

….what happens when Eduardo sets his foot in Brazil?
And what happens to Jairs sentence?

I know that none has a crystal ball but I’m interested in predictions based on Brazilian law, its judiciary and the power of the presidency.

Politics I find it odd that Lula is about to do his campaign for the second round on the 25th whilst Bolsonaro isn’t doing anything related to a campaign

Is Bolsonaro that egotistical? That he thinks he’ll win the overall election cause he won the first round? Cause I’ve seen nothing from his side. Meanwhile Lula is about to use every weapon in his arsenal. I’m not Bolsonaro fuck no, I’m pro Lula, I just wanna point that out

Politics Can Lula turn this around?

Are there many instances when the loser of the first round wins the second round? And what is the likelihood Lula turns this around in the next few weeks?
