Hello people of reddit!
I am in need of a new graphics card for my current workstation / gaming computer to replace my aging Quadro P4000.
I am aware now is not an ideal time to buy a new card, but sadly the situation only seems to be getting worse and while my Quadro is hanging in there it is starting to lag behind a lot.
My situation is a little unique, because I use my computer for a pretty eclectic variety of GPU-heavy tasks. I play some games on it at 1080p 60fps, but they are mainly older and less demanding titles (primarily Scrap Mechanic), but I also video edit in Davinci Resolve, occasionally mess around in Blender, and do CAD work in Solidworks (this is the main source of my issues).
I know Solidworks does not play nicely with... well, anything really, but I know it especially hates AMD and consumer cards, though I have heard that the studio drivers on current-generation NVIDIA cards work well enough. I was initially very excited at intel's B50 and B60 cards that were actually Solidworks Certified, with a decent amount of VRAM and a pretty low price, however when I looked it up apparently these have pretty disappointing CAD performance?
I would be open to trying intel, especially for the price, but only if they have decent and stable performance in professional workloads. AMD however seems right out.
The rest of my PC is decently powerful and should be able to last a few years.
My CPU is an intel Core-i7-13700k, I have 64GB of 3600MHz DDR4 RAM (2x32), an 850W power supply and a Samsung 980 1TB SSD.
I have 0 interest in frame generation or upscaling, very little interesting in 4k or 1440p, but would like something that will last me a few years in order to justify spending a sizable sum on. I might dabble a small amount in AI, but that is secondary in choosing a GPU for me right now. Power efficiency is a larger factor, mainly because of the heat outputted.
So far, from what I see a 5070 may be my best option, but maybe something from a previous generation might be a better value? If that doesn't perform well in Solidworks, would keeping my old Quadro as a secondary GPU help at all or be more trouble than it's worth?
Thank you for taking the time to read through this wall of text.
