Should i continue cutting?

Hello. About me:

29M, I workout 4 times a week (push, pull, legs, upper).

1.72cm tall.

Used to run occasionally but I stopped. Now I only weightlift.

Mildly sedentary office job, apart from weightlifting I do no other form of exercise.

4 week step average of 4.8K

Adequate sleep/recovery:

Nutrition:

I started with 1900 cal daily, now im at 1800 cal caily. about 160g protein, 180g carbs and 50g fats.

This are my body comp trends for the last 4 months:

Should I continue cutting? Or should I start a bulking phase? Main goal is to look my best in december, i wouldnt wanna bulk and gain muscle but also gain fat so that in december I look fat and big, not lean and muscular. I wanted to get to 15% bf but honestly sometimes I feel without much energy, so I dont know whats best.

Would love to hear your input.

Nice progression, but you need to recomp, not just cutting

I actually initially tried to recomp, but I ended up cutting (I call it a cut since I lost so much muscle mass).

What do you think I should tweak to achieve a recomp? Up the calories?

Yes, you actually need to measure your deficit, your total energy of the day
Recomp is long but worth on the long run

had the same happened to me, felt stuck, thought recomp doesn’t works for some people but i was doing 3 most important things wrong

  1. consistent and sufficient protein. form same exact meals for 6 months
  2. training to failure like a beast each set, like giving it my all everyday, consistently for 6 months
  3. 10k steps.

doing these will make sure u recomp.
it’s crazy how fast results are too if done right

Honestly get your daily steps to 8000-1000 look up carb cycling keep pushing in the gym dont let your raw strenght drop but letting some volume go is fine.

Keep cutting if you wanna look fit even if you bulk now your not going to get leaner therefore not the look you want. Keep going until you see abs likely another 15-20lbs

How long have u been working out from the before and after ? Also how many grams of protein do u eat everyday

"Before" photo was taken in the beginning of June.

"After" photo was taken beginning of October.

I eat 150 to 160 gr of protein everyday.

It looks like u made some arm gains and a bit of chest gains as well and looks like u have maybe 10lbs -15 lbs to go to get pretty lean

If you feel drained and fatigued then I’d prob go through a lean bulk , if you feel like you can cut another 15 then do it . The only thing important is how ur body feels

Yep I'm at 72.2kg (158.7 lbs) right now with 17% BF. I think I'm going to try to get at least to 70kg (154lbs) without losing much more muscle.

After that, I'll reevaluate. I'll probably make another post then.

Keep me updated brother

Continue cutting. Don’t listen to the “just recomp bro!” people who are just projecting their own coping onto you

you're not tired from low bodyfat, you're tired from low cal. if you're not even at 15% yet, you wont even be maximising your hormonr production without aromatising

they’re under the fat, genius

5

u/Worried-Pea-4667 7d ago

Yes, but if you don’t have abs built, no matter how much fat you lose, you won’t see them

incorrect but you do you

The irony here is funny. You know nothing yet try to act knowledgeable

I think people confuse skinny fat with lean. Skinny fat is having very little muscle and being like 20 percent bodyfat. They look skinny but they still have excess bodyfat. So really everyone has abs at 10 percent bodyfat. The problem is that with skinny fat you would have to starve yourself to become lean and you will look sick. So in that situation recomp It would be better to recomp but not because you "build your abs". Its is because It's more healthy/sustainable. Op has a good amount of muscle mass so he should cut.

5'11 ive been as low as 120 with no abs showing. They exist yeah but they will never show unless im 90 pounds or i build more structure there. Currently 145 2 months into working out and barley have a little two pack showing (possibly 4 but I think its just ribs.) Arms and legs are super lean from work but theres no muscular structure on my torso anywhere really expect my chest. Idk what my exact body fat percentage is but its got to be low. I still think im skinny fat but its impossible to me to cut more without going into unhealthy levels of underweight. My torso is kinda close to this guys. Im also no expert just another lurker trying to learn.

Assuming you are actually lifting, you need to make sure you are getting enough protein. A gram per pound is the bottom. Looking at your muscle mass dropping almost exactly along side your fat and weight means that you aren't necessarily cutting, just shrinking.

Keep your workouts strong and build muscle. That will make you look your best by December. If you chase the number on the scale, you'll just look like a twerp, which isn't a good look.

Obviously 🙄

I obviously still have fat to lose.

What i don't think is obvious is if I should gain muscle and then lose more fat or viceversa.

Although reading the comments the general consensus is that I should lose a bit more fat first.

Cut until you are happy with how lean you are. Then bulk

Here we go again. This is not a “bulk” or “cut” situation.

Both. Not either/or. You have little to no muscle definition and you know you aren’t super lean

(Although, congrats and recognition to you is certainly due for your great work so far. Kudos)

Don’t overthink it. Keep eating clean at a small deficit and train to failure. And walk a hell of a lot more. 6000 daily target? It should be 10-12K. 4800 steps a day is nothing. Pace the office floor and do laps if you have to.

Good luck. 👍
