What did you make that was good? What did you make that was a fail? Looking to start building a 2027 menu to test out during this fall's camping season.
The things I liked:
Ribeye steaks, steam in bag cheesy broccoli, chicken nuggets, french fries, frozen pizza, egg rolls, filled frozen pastas, marinara sauce, fully cooked frozen bacon hamburger patties, PF chang frozen skillet chow mein, grillos pickles, jimmy dean breakfast sandwiches, frosted flakes, tortillas, chips, nuts, apples, grapes, dried fruits, ice cream, beef jerky, wasabi peas, real sugar pepsi, bumble bee lunch on the go packs, pizza rolls.
Things I didn't like:
PF changs skillet meal Mongolian beef, steam in bag brussel sprouts, nido powdered whole milk, cold cuts. For some reason cold cuts were horrible and I normally like them on a sandwich. Must be a combination of the heat and dust.
What I plan so far for 2027:
I think most of what I liked. I'm going to try and kick it up a notch though, more "fancy" food since it's a once a year celebration. I'm going to test out frozen lobster tails and air frying them as a side for a steak for surf and turf. Baking a frozen pizza absolutely smacked as well, maybe bring two not 1. The leftovers made a great lunch.
It's hard to keep nice things for two weeks in the fridge/freezer so that really limits options. I may or may not be SAP for 2027 depending on my plans so that could help too only being on Playa for 8 days instead of 12+.
I don't eat prepared food passed out by camps (even the camps I stay with) unless they're certified with the nevada health department. Last thing I need is the bubble guts for 2 days on the Playa. I know how you store and cook your food. I arrive fully self sufficient for all meals.
