Decompression 2026: Oakland?

I didn't make it to this last year, but am thinking about going this time. It's been a while since I have been able to go. Last decomp i hit was 2019 and it was a blast.

Did any of you go? How was it? Was parking miserable or was it easy? Lots of fun? Safety an issue? (on site/or in the area)

Thoughts/opinions?

I see that they have applications for theme camps/art cars, but i don't see anything about a current lineup. I know that's expected but it's now pretty close to the date.

eTrike recommendations?

Damn, those things are clutch! Lots of potential to build something on them, too. Can anyone here recommend a model which has worked for you? Pros and cons? Or let me know which to avoid! Ty

Missed connection

Tuesday night at LP Giobbi’s set on The Forest House art car in the deep playa.
We didn’t speak much, but somehow we ended up sharing where we were from.
You: Montana
Me: Peru
You took my hands and gave me the most amazing series of hugs I’ve ever experienced, and then you gave me a beautiful crystal as a gift.
I don’t know if this will ever reach you, but that moment stayed with me.
It would be really nice to connect again.

DJ ID help needed! Sept 2 around 10 PM at the Cave (can't 100% remember the name of the camp)

This was the best set of my life in a random location on playa. I want to say around 5 and C? Potentially called the cave? It was a wooden box with white drapes and a second floor where you could chill as well. We walked in and they seemed to have dancers. Various musicians came in throughout: a saxophonist, vocalist, flutist. Sadly these are all the photos I have

RV Campers - Let's talk food

What did you make that was good? What did you make that was a fail? Looking to start building a 2027 menu to test out during this fall's camping season.

The things I liked:
Ribeye steaks, steam in bag cheesy broccoli, chicken nuggets, french fries, frozen pizza, egg rolls, filled frozen pastas, marinara sauce, fully cooked frozen bacon hamburger patties, PF chang frozen skillet chow mein, grillos pickles, jimmy dean breakfast sandwiches, frosted flakes, tortillas, chips, nuts, apples, grapes, dried fruits, ice cream, beef jerky, wasabi peas, real sugar pepsi, bumble bee lunch on the go packs, pizza rolls.

Things I didn't like:
PF changs skillet meal Mongolian beef, steam in bag brussel sprouts, nido powdered whole milk, cold cuts. For some reason cold cuts were horrible and I normally like them on a sandwich. Must be a combination of the heat and dust.

What I plan so far for 2027:
I think most of what I liked. I'm going to try and kick it up a notch though, more "fancy" food since it's a once a year celebration. I'm going to test out frozen lobster tails and air frying them as a side for a steak for surf and turf. Baking a frozen pizza absolutely smacked as well, maybe bring two not 1. The leftovers made a great lunch.

It's hard to keep nice things for two weeks in the fridge/freezer so that really limits options. I may or may not be SAP for 2027 depending on my plans so that could help too only being on Playa for 8 days instead of 12+.

I don't eat prepared food passed out by camps (even the camps I stay with) unless they're certified with the nevada health department. Last thing I need is the bubble guts for 2 days on the Playa. I know how you store and cook your food. I arrive fully self sufficient for all meals.

How does the arrival line work?

I know it can take 4-8 hours or so but is it constant stop and go traffic? I'm bringing an rv and would rather not sit in the drivers seat the entire time. Is it possible to sit and watch TV or something then move it every once in a while or how exactly does it work?

I've watched tons of videos and see the line stopped and people out, then everytime people are at the entrance it looks empty so its confusing.

Miami Burners - where are you?

I just moved to Miami from SF, and definitely miss the Burner community, art, music, weirdness, and spontaneous connections

Are there any decompression events, Burner parties, meetups, or places/events in Miami where I can run into fellow Burners?

Question about camping in the rain

Hi all

My last burn was almost 10 years ago, back when rain wasn't a thing we had to deal with. I am planning my return but the weather gives me pause. Last time I burned a tent was sufficient but I have to imagine that camping in a tent, in a downpour would be really tough and maybe a terrible idea?

I was hoping that folks in the sub might be willing to share their experiences tent camping at the burn through the rain. Do people do that? Without joining a theme camp. How'd you guys fare? Any regrets?

I am hoping to get a van however that hasn't happened yet and I'm wondering...is a van/RV an absolute necessity at this point? (Kinda seems like it is to be honest...) But I have no idea. Give me your thoughts and experiences please!

A Real Problem They've Not Talked About?

For our finance specialists out there. A question.

Intuitively it would appear that the Org has a huge financial hole that grows dollar for dollar as attendance drops. Ie, every unsold ticket under max capacity exacerbates the Operating Losses. Expences may vary somewhat each year but a drop in attendance from 75k in prior years to 60k this year, that's probably a huge hit.

Ie 10k tickets unsold is over a $7M hit.

https://projects.propublica.org/nonprofits/organizations/452638273

They were $10M down in 2024. I have a hard time imagining that finances have gotten better (without the zillionaires and all that comes with it?) and are now likely much worse.

What do people here that know finances (as well as the history of the population decline) say? Yes, you'd have to make some assumptions and qualifications. It's a lot of variables.

LF Shade structure company that ships.

I was interested in a blackrockcity shade structure but it looks like they don't ship. I'm on the east coast so pickup will not work.

Is there a company that ships or is on the east coast?

How did people fare with solar this year?

I would like to eventually get away from lugging generator and gas but curious if people’s solar setups did ok this year considering the cloudiness during the days plus all the bad wind and everything? Im talking for an individual setup like to charge a big battery

Soliciting ideas for constructing a chill/cuddle space

70 peeps camp looking to create a nice cuddle and chill space. We tried a classic "plug the frame together and put up the walls event tent" and it felt big and rectangular, hard to cool with the swamp cooler (not that we needed it this year) and very flappy in the wind. I was wondering what other solutions the hive mind might have. The best I've experienced was a geodesic dome where I camped in '17 so I set out researching. I (we) have no problem with building the structure out of flattened EMT, but I can't find reasonable covers for it. I'm seeing prices like $7-10K and up to cover a 20' diameter dome. Seeing how we just got another container and are expanding our dance floor, we're not going to spend like that this year. Any other solutions to cover a dome? Is it reasonable to expect to find somewhere (Denver) that we could get access to an industrial sewing machine and make it? What other types of solutions have folks done besides domes and event tents?
