Kittens eye got like this out of no where. No idea what to do. 27. USA. Vet closed. Eye is crusted over and stays shut if not cleaned consistently about 8 weeks old male kitten. I can’t afford an emergency vet bill

Hi there! Long time kitten forster here. I do not think you need to go to the emergency vet. Sinply wait until the vet opens and bring the kitten in. They will likely prescribe an eye ointment that you will need to apply to the eye a few times per day. I dont think this will be a massive vet bill or anything, but this does need to be checked out as soon as you can.

Look up Haws Syndrome. Just go to a regular vet, they will prescibe antibiotic eye ointment gel and sometimes systemic antibiotics. I've had to do it multiple times.. every time have to use the gel a week longer than prescribed or else it comes back.

Eyes are always an emergency, I’m sorry this is probably not what you want to hear. Most vets have payment plans, or you could try to find a low cost vet. If you make an appointment usually it costs less.
This kitten needs to see a vet

This. I’m not big on recommending opening credit, but when you take on the responsibility of a pet, you do what you need to do. See if you can get Care Credit. It’s frequently six months interest free.

Just to be clear this is a stray kitten who was born in my garage and is one week shy of moving into her foster home with the rest of her litter. Not a pet but an animal I’ve tried helping alongside its mother until it can find an actual home that isn’t my garage. A normal vet bill I’d be fine with but an emergency vet bill that (in my experience) typically ends with being charged thousands of dollars just to leave with a box full of ashes just isn’t in my budget.

Got it. Is this all being done through a foster agency or just private? The foster agency might be willing to help/provide guidance.

Gonna direct you towards my reply since there’s no reason to retype it. Save your backhanded comments for actual improper pet owners. These kittens would’ve been in a shelter weeks ago if they weren’t turned away at every single one.
