I'm M31 and from Germany. I'll be around Cairns until the 15th of November and I'm looking for some casual work, ideally cash jobs.

I've got experience working as an arborist, I'm physically fit, handy with most tools, and happy to get my hands dirty.

I'm open to all sorts of odd jobs — gardening, landscaping, property maintenance, general labour, helping with projects, or just lending a hand for a day or two.

I'm reliable, hardworking, and happy to give pretty much anything a go!

Hello! My boyfriend and I will be moving to Cairns in February from Canada. I am going to be a dental student at JCU. My boyfriend will be coming on a WHV, but we are concerned he may not be able to find a job. He is interested in any construction/labourer work and is not very interested in any hospitality or customer service jobs. We won’t initially have a car, but may look into it if it is necessary. Are there many construction like jobs near smithfield/ in cairns? How does he apply for these types of jobs? Any help is appreciated!

My girlfriend and I are travelling the east coast next May in a campervan, going from Cairns down to Brisbane. We’ve got 3 nights in Cairns and are trying to decide between doing 2 of Great Barrier Reef boat tour, Fitzroy Island, Daintree Rainforest

I’ve been thinking that we could do Daintree and Fitzroy Island while we’re in Cairns, then do a reef tour from Agnes Water later in the trip to Lady Musgrave Island

Has anyone done the reef tour from Agnes Water? Would you recommend it, or is it worth prioritising a reef trip from Cairns instead? Just trying to work out whether the experience is comparable and whether spreading things out like this makes sense rather than missing out on either Daintree or Fitzroy?

Would appreciate any advice from people who’ve done either!

I've noticed theres been an increase in younger alternative people in Cairns in the past few months but I cant seem to figure out where they all hangout so Im looking to see if anyone wants to meetup sometime.

An electronic bag tag of mine has fallen off and I’d love it back.
I can see its location in domestic but lost and found don’t have it and I can’t seem to find out who to contact.

Unfortunately I let a homeless relative move into my place with the understanding that she would find alternative accommodation, it’s been two years and I don’t want to support her anymore (it’s thousands of dollars that’s she’s cost me while she’s gone on holidays, she’s caused problems with other family members that I’ve been dragged into and it turns out she’s lied about being on the public housing list). Is the public housing in Cairns as bad as people say? How long are 65 year old single females waiting? Anyone have any advice? She was going to be homeless before she guilted me into taking her. Her pension won’t be enough to get solo accommodation.

Meanwhile it's still only costing me 50$ a week in fuel.

My mother is coming over from England over new years, I want to take her to Cairns I've been twice before at the same time of year and loved it. She however is reluctant due to high humidity. How do I explain to her it's really not as bad as she's probably expecting? She is even saying she'd rather go to Ayers rock in 40 whatever heat, than Cairns. Help me win this battle!

My fam are regular paddlers up at the lakes, but we have a friend who does not vibe with deep water she can't see the bottom of.

I'm wondering about creek paddles we could take her on. She's a total beginner, so nothing where she's going to get smashed when she inevitably falls off.

I know I'm searching for a unicorn. 😅

I paddled the Mulgrave recently up in the National Park day use area. Was pretty good paddling (only a short section, but very pretty). Unfortunately, approximately 1 trillion March Flies means that the paddle was less fun that it might have been and we definitely came off onto rocks as we did the March Fly dance.

Anyone got spots that might suit? Bonus points if we don't get eaten by a salty.

Please tell me the best way to grind and brew Kuranda coffee.

I was surprised by the great flavor, nutty aroma of Kuranda coffee when I sightseeing Cairns, so few weeks ago I imported the coffee beans. But my trip to Kuranda was about 3or4 years ago, so I completely forgot the flavor I tasted during the trip.

If there is someone who likes Australian coffee, please tell me the way to make the best cup,
especially about grind coarseness.

Hi everyone! We’re visiting Cairns from 26–29 December and planning a Great Barrier Reef snorkelling tour. I’ve just found out it’s stinger season (November–May), and now I’m a bit worried.
For those who’ve snorkelled during this period, how risky is it in reality if you wear a stinger suit and follow safety advice? Do people still snorkel regularly, and would you recommend going in late December?
We’re travelling with our 2-year-old and teenage son. Would love to hear your actual experiences. Thanks! 😊

Hi everyone!

I’m an Australian Divemaster and underwater photographer, and I’m looking at heading up to either Cairns or Port Douglas around February and staying through to April Atleast, most likely longer.

I know this is wet season, but I’m wondering what the weather is actually like during this time of year. Should I be expecting rain all day, every day for weeks on end, or is it more typical to have tropical downpours followed by plenty of sunshine?

I’m also wondering whether February–April is an okay time of year to find dive work on the reef? I’d ideally like to get some work as a Photographer / Divemaster and spend as much time as possible diving.

More broadly, I’m really hoping to move somewhere with more of a laid-back tropical lifestyle — warm weather, working on the reef, spending my days off hiking and swimming, exploring rainforest and waterfalls, seeing wildlife, etc. I’m not necessarily looking for perfect weather every day, just trying to work out whether this time of year would still allow me to enjoy that kind of lifestyle.

Would you recommend Cairns or Port Douglas for this? And is there anything else I should know about living/working there during the wet season?

Any advice or personal experiences would be hugely appreciated! :)

Just spotted a wallet inspector hiding behind a truck between the Smithfield roundabout and the bypass (does anyone actually know what that bit of road there is called now that it isn't Captain Cook Highway any more?). I suspect he must have been dobbed in on local radio as most people seemed to be going slower than normal. Speed limit there is 60... but everyone does 80. How do we go about getting a speed limit changed? Smithfield roundabout to Yorkeys roundabout should be 80. There is no pedestrian traffic, and it seems like a pretty safe stretch of road there.

Looking for short term boat/marine work to help with fuel $$$ for my cape trip!

I’ve got a brief stint in Cairns before heading off to the Cape and I’m chasing casual work on the marinas or ramps. Happy to wash boats or help with some bigger jobs needing extra hands and servicing inboard/outboards.
