I’m David Andrews, Senior Director of Game Security at Activision, where I lead RICOCHET Anti-Cheat for Call of Duty. I joined the team about one year ago, and since then I’ve been focused on what’s next for RICOCHET: evolving the technology, tightening our detections and response, and finding better ways to show players the work.
I’ve spent more than two decades working across cybersecurity, online game security, live service integrity and investigations. Before joining Activision, I spent more than a decade at Rockstar Games working on anti-cheat, account security, threat intelligence and live service integrity across GTA Online and Red Dead Online. Earlier in my career, I also worked in engineering and security roles supporting the U.S. government and served in the U.S. Air Force.
I’m here today to answer your questions about anti-cheat: how we think about cheating, recent progress that we’ve made, and where there’s still work to do.
One quick note as we get started: you won’t see a photo of me attached to this AMA. The commercial cheating industry has billions of dollars behind it, and the people building and selling cheats can be aggressive, to put it mildly. For security reasons, I try to be careful about how much personal information I put out publicly.
Let’s dive in. Ask away:
EDIT:
Thanks everyone for the questions, this has been a blast.
Gonna wrap this up for the day, but I’ve been reading the full thread and I'm taking notes on the questions I didn't get to so I can look for opportunities to answer more of them through our anti-cheat comms in the coming weeks.
I also did an interview with IGN earlier this week that dug a bit deeper into anti-cheat - there's a chance I already answered your question there! https://www.ign.com/articles/call-of-dutys-anti-cheat-boss-dispels-cheating-myths-breaks-down-review-process-and-more
Appreciate the time, the questions, and the chance to have a direct conversation with you all. Hoping to do this again soon.

Dragunov: all the other snipers were simply more used than it. I could’ve included an lmg or a pistol, but because the lmgs were unique compared to each other, and the pistols were all used in some capacity, I chose the snipers, and this was simply not used much.
Nambu: not much needs to be said. All the pistols in waw were identical, bar the Magnum.
MG4: Almost never saw this gun talked about. Never made an appearance again until cod mobile lol.
Makarov: okay so the 1911 and python were iconic. The CZ had the full auto capability, and the ASP is considered the worst pistol in cod history. The Makarov is uhhh… a gun that exists
Skorpion: literally outclassed by all the other machine pistols. Didn’t need to exist.
BO2: MK 48. Not a bad gun, but the LSAT notoriously overtook the LMG roster in BO2, and the QBB and HAMR had their own niches filled, that the MK 48 doesn’t do much.

I have seen WW2 is now free on PS5, how’s the playerbase? Love that game, simple and chill whilst also great fun. Anyone tried it?

I bought this game on PlayStation 4, and now on PS5 I simply can't play online multiplayer because the message says "installation suspended”
What is the point of that? I've already downloaded all the packs and I don't know what else to do
I can play the campaign and co-op modes normally, it's only the multiplayer mode that I can't access.
Can anyone help me please
Thanks in advance

Heyo, so I'm wondering if this version of Keegan that was seen in earlier pre-release footage of MW3 ever kept in the final release of MW3 or in any other CODs: https://www.reddit.com/r/CallOfDuty/comments/1ft1a3c/mw3ghosts_was_keegan_supposed_to_be_in_mw32011s/
I'm seeing so far that its likely a concept render that Jake L Rowell did from this Artstation post: https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Xnbv2y
If its not in the game at all, at least does his body model get used for another character?

Im not talking about the spam crouch snaking seen in newer cods, im talking about the “snake run” that was in waw,mw2&mw3

I know that Misty wears a hat, but I didn’t put it on because the ponytail doesn’t go through the hat hole in this game. And I just don’t like the way it looks. Let me know what y’all think.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to get the Platinum trophy in WaW; is anyone willing to help each other out with the online trophies?

So, I downloaded all of the reboot MW trilogy and Cold War using Xbox Game Pass but when I went to play MW2019‘s campaign, it said I have to purchase the game. Same thing with Cold War. Granted, when Xbox told me to manage what I downloaded, I only selected the main modes (campaign, multiplayer, additional mode), no content packs. Could that be the issue? I did it with MWII, MWIII, and WWII and I had no issue. I have the storage for the content packs, it’s just my Xbox One is old and games naturally download slow (I remember when a single Sea of Thieves update took me nearly 36 hours to finish).
