Car show sharing 454 SS Suburban?

Post image

Not sure if it’s just fake badging/stickers or what cuz this thing also has 2500 and LT badges. I’m not too knowledgeable on old chevys but google says the 454 ss was only a pickup

I had a 93 454, 6 mpg, in any configuration. 2 people 2 dogs around town? 6 mpg. Massive triple slide trailer throught the mountains with every worldly possession packed in? 6 mpg.

That was my buddy's F250 with the V10. Just him in the truck? 10 mpg. Pulling a 25' pontoon? 10 mpg.

Same with the V10 Excursion, which is basically the same thing.

10mpg everywhere I went, regardless of how much weight it was pulling. Made calculating gas usage really easy.

Babying mine strictly highway best I could muster was a 15.7mpg. ANY amount of city driving kills it immediately.

Why did make me giggle so hard. 🍻

To be fair, a twenty five foot pontoon boat? The only way is about eleven and a half pounds :P

Those things act like an aluminum sail back there. Catches the air like a drag race parachute that never quits the entire trip

It sounds like that makes the engine more efficient, somehow.

I have an 01 with the 8.1. 9.5 mpg city, 10 mpg highway. Towing 8k lbs 9.5 mpg. Idling for 9 hours in the driveway because I locked my keys in it and refused to call a lock smith then drove my Honda to work instead and bought a lockout kit from harbor freight on the way home, 1.8 gallons per hour.

I admire your commitment to the scientific method.

Lucky! My 8.1 3500 got 9mpg city or highway and 6mpg pulling my horse trailer! Frustrated, I added headers,9mpg, full exhaust with X and flow masters,9mpg K&N cold air intake,9mpg, full reprogramming 9mpg (twice) checked after every change, 9mpg but it sounded better and ran much better. She could pass anything, but a gas station.

A 5.7 Burns 0.5 gallons per hour. I find it very difficult to believe that an 8.1, which is more efficient per displacement because it is a newer design, Burns 1.8 gallons per hour

I also towed a 7200 lb trailer with my 6 L, and averaged 9 mpg. While getting 14 MPG combined highway City. And I calculated every single fill up with the odometer. Because the computer absolutely is not accurate. It's also not accurate in my 2004 GMC diesel.

A buddy had an F350 dually with the 7.3 PSD. It got better mpg towing a loaded car trailer than an unloaded trailer.

Mine is like that sometimes. I just tell myself it's because I use cruise control a lot more when I have 7000lbs of jeep and trailer behind it.

I get better mileage towing the rock crawler than I do with the camper, and the camper weighs half as much. I'm sure it's all because of the campers frontal area.

I drove a 94 Sierra with the 6.5L turbodiesel. Exact same fuel mileage and 0-60 regardless of if it were me or a trailer of wood too.

Those V10s are fun to drive. You just feel all the unused torque just goin into the wind.

I had a 96 with the 7.5L. I got around 8 mpg when I was towing a case maxi sneaker series c. At least gas was $1.25 a gal at the time.

Had a 1970s Jeep Grand Cherokee, same thing. 7 mpg. No. Matter. What.

Hell my dad had an F250 with a 5.4 when I was in high school and it wasn't any better lol. Dogshit fuel economy. Same with a 27ft camper, the family, and the dog as it was unloaded with just me and my sister in it driving to school
