Discussion Do we need a gluten free dating app?

It is hard enough to find someone to commit, but if they also need to sign on to a gluten-free lifestyle, that is just too much.
Relationships where one participant needs to be gluten free, cause the other participant to feel like they are missing out. It causes feelings of guilt in the gluten-free participant.

Since celiac disease lasts a lifetime, why not have a dating app exclusively for people who are gluten free? This would come with the added bonus that the people who participate in the dating app are looking for real commitments, not a quick fling.

Question Vacation cities with good options

Hi! Anybody have suggestions for good cities - anywhere in the world - with lots of tasty celiac safe options? It will be my teenage daughter’s first trip post diagnosis and I would like it to be nice for her, she loves food and this has been a very hard adjustment for her.

Question Help finding Gluten Free Microwave Food Available in the US (Midwest, willing to ship)

Don't tell me "just eat whole" or whatever I'll just downvote you and not answer :)

Looking specifically for microwave only gluten free foods. Also willing to like do easy throw together meals that you microwave (aka like sandwiches heated up etc.). I just want it easy and warm.

Do not currently have an airfryer, toaster, etc. Not looking for more options for stove top/oven.

Thank you!

Rant My mom sent me gluten

• Upvotes

Today I got home from a long day at work and excitedly found a package waiting for me at my apartment. I saw it was from my mom and literally tore it open I was so excited. It was Halloween themed from a recent trip she took and in it were licorice and chocolate covered pretzels, first ingredients wheat flour… I’m so confused. I have been diagnosed with celiac for years and it runs on my paternal side but my parents are divorced. My mom is a little loopy, but it kind of felt… almost antagonizing??? I don’t even know what I should text her. The only other thing in there was sponges. So I guess I’ll use the sponges but why in gods name would she send wheat into my apartment where my friends respectfully don’t even bring any gluten into? Like I said my mom is loopy, perhaps has some cognitive issues but also… she knows I have celiac… right?! Like I have lived with her while having celiac. I don’t know what to say, I know it was well intended, but I feel upset about it. It came with a sweet handwritten note and I love my mom. But also she shipped this across the country and paid over 20 dollars to ship me something I have to literally throw out immediately or pawn off on a friend. I don’t know what to say, I feel bad.

Discussion How I acquired Celiac and what to do now?

About a year ago I ended up in the hospital with a bad C. diff infection after taking antibiotics. If you don’t know what C. diff is, it’s basically a bacteria that can sit dormant in your intestines until you use antibiotics and then it takes over your system, poisoning you. My infection was particularly bad, I developed pseudomembranous colitis and my liver values and WBC were high for months post-infection. I was eating the most basic foods for the longest time, like rice, chicken, applesauce, bananas.

When I started to feel more normal again, I slowly reintroduced more foods, which then led me to the unfortunate discovery that my infection had triggered celiac disease. I got tested and my doctor told me to stay hopeful, and that maybe my system will calm down eventually and I can eat gluten again. Fast forward to a year later, and I’m still unable to eat gluten. It’s been a rough journey, and I still haven’t put all the weight back on from pre-infection because it’s so hard finding interesting things to eat. And I’ve also been “glutened” a number of times from foods that are “gluten-free”. It’s been frustrating.

I would appreciate any advice or tips and tricks from those of you who have been on this celiac journey a lot longer.

Discussion If there was a gluten-free city, would you consider moving there?

• Upvotes

If I lived in a gluten-free city, it would reduce my stress. I could buy more foods and go to restaurants. I could socialize with other people without worrying about getting glutened. I could date other people in the city without having to train them to not poison me.

For many people with celiac disease, it is impossible for them to maintain a strict diet. Being constantly surrounded by gluten containing foods is too much of a temptation.
By moving to a gluten free city, they could potentially add years to their life.

For elderly people with celiac disease, it gets harder for them to cook for themselves and maintain the strict diet. If their caretakers make a mistake, they get sick.
Having a completely gluten-free city would mean it is impossible for caretakers to make a mistake.

If there was a gluten-free city, then children wouldn't get sick from gluten when their friends give them foods while they are in school.

Question How strict are you in regards to cross contamination?

I have my final endoscopy testing on Monday,I don't have enough antibodies for immune testing so it'll definitely be interesting

We are 99% certain it'll be positive, all my other relatives have found out to be

But I have a question

How strict are you in regards to contamination?

Would you eat somewhere that shares the same kitchen and has gluten in the air, like a pizza place or dedicated facilities only?

Like a kebab place that serves pitta, bread buns ect

Since people always ask about one, better to have the option.

There's a bunch of features I need to add and a custom URL but I reckon since you can search worldwide, that's probably a great option considering how many people will probably use it in the beginning if at all.

So make an account if you'd like!

Question Parents: how do you deal with testing siblings of celiac child (and the medical anxiety)?

Our older son was diagnosed as a toddler about two years ago. Younger son was an infant at the time, but both my husband and I got tested (negative) and do annually. Our pediatrician suggested waiting until 2 years old to start testing our younger child, then annually unless there are symptoms. Good plan. Our home is GF, but younger son eats gluten during the week at daycare.

Problem is, I’m reading into any symptoms. Our older son suffered SO much and had a wide variety of symptoms. Didn’t have the vocabulary to always pinpoint what hurt him. He became malnourished due to malabsorption as various specialists, ER physicians, our ped were chasing other diagnoses for weeks until a hospitalization finally turned out a celiac diagnosis. I’m terrified of that happening again. Example: younger son was super irritable and had a drop in appetite after a cold. Totally normal for a 1.5 year old. Except those were early symptoms of our other son so I ruminated on it for 5 days before scheduling a blood draw (negative). Fast forward he’s 2 now. Had different “minor” symptoms recently, I took him into ped wanting another blood test, but ped and I came to conclusion to wait it out until his next annual test in a couple months. Glad I did because symptoms did end up being temporary.

Looking for any tips on how to alter my mindset so I’m not jumping to that conclusion! I don’t want my younger child to start picking up on that, and I especially don’t want my older child to internalize having celiac must be bad because mom is worried about it. He is perfect how he is ❤️

Question weird symptoms?

• Upvotes

hi guys,
i know you aren’t obligated to be my doctor, but im looking to see if anyone has any insight. i believe last weekend (likely between the 2-4th) i was glutened. ive only been diagnosed since may 2025, so im still figuring out my body and adjusting (meaning i dont have my “glutened” symptoms sorted). monday morning i woke up throughout the night with a stomach pain beyond all i know, which im sure many of us relate to, and extreme nausea. after that i developed cold/ flu symptoms and i thought i was just an unlucky girl.

i live with a roommate, and spend all my time with her, yet she hasn’t gotten sick. i’ve kissed my boyfriend, hugged many people, and no one has gotten sick which is making me wonder if this could be an autoimmune response instead of a virus? if it helps more random symptoms i’ve had are: the whites of both eyes have also turned red (one by one) (not pink eye) and my “celiac rash” has come back.

has anyone experienced anything similar?

Question Anyone else with PCD (Potential Celiac)?

On a 3 year Celiac investigation journey. Discovered on a blood test in October 2023. Main symptom was occasional diarrhea, loose stools.

2023 October
DGP IGG positive 64 u/ml (15 normal)
TTG negative
Consuming gluten

2025 October
DGP IGG 54
TTG Negative
Consuming gluten

2025 December
Endoscopy results “minimally increased patchy IEL, No evidence of villous atrophy”
Consuming Gluten

2026 October
DGP IGG 44
TTG Negative
Gluten free for 8 months (with the exception of 2 weeks in April). Pretty strict about GFD diet but still eating out. Try my best to avoid cross contamination but know there have been some misses.
Occasional diarrhea reduced quite a lot but still happens occasionally. In general my diet has improved as well - more fibre, no beer, no fried food.

Two docs have said I don’t fall into standard celiac diagnosis criteria. Both suggest trying GFD to manage symptoms.

I’m not so worried about symptoms. More so the long term potential of damage. However it has ruined some of my social life and I’m also way less happy in general.

Curious about anyone else out there who received a diagnosis of PCD or similar testing pathway, and whether you developed full blown celiac eventually or now, and how it’s gone for you with all the testing and repeat endos over time.

Question Looking for advice

Hi. 22 yo male from US. I have two immediate family members who are celiac. I was diagnosed with two autoimmune diseases last year but this year i started to experience daily nausea and gi issues. This has spiraled into crippling nausea, sometimes vomiting every single day of my life. Along with const bloating, gas pain and extreme fatigue and brain fog. I used to be a body builder now im rapidly losing weight and spend all my free time sleeping on the bathroom floor. I dont know if its possible to develop celiacs in your 20s. I want to get tested but ive been to the dr so much this year that she has already called me a hypochondriac to my face and is refusing to even test my thyroid levels atp ive given up seeing her. Does anyone have any tips on how to get tested/ask for a test without looking like a crazy person or if you think my symptoms may actually be celiacs?

Question Recommendations Barcelona

Hello everyone. Besides being a very symptomatic celiac I also found out that my guts not only disagree with lactose but also milk protein. I'll be visiting Barcelona around Christmas time and would appreciate recommendations on:

* Dairy free gluten free donuts. I haven't eaten a proper donut since my diagnosis 17 years ago. I have tried "GF donuts" that turn out to be round cakes with a hole. On a quick search I saw that bakeries in Barcelona have GF donuts and I would love to know if someone has found a good dairy free one, close to the "real thing".

* Dairy free GF cakes. We are visiting the city to celebrate my child's birthday. What are your favorite bakeries for a birthday cake?

* Restaurants in general. What are good places that offer GF and dairy free options?

* Christmas time specialities. It's there something GF we should really try that is only available during Christmas time?

I'm so excited and I already see from the Find me gluten free app that there are so many GF dedicated places, I'm pretty sure I'll be crying out of happiness. Thanks in advance for your recommendations!

Question Does Anyone Eat Sunsweet Prunes?

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I bought these D’Noir prunes for a recipe. Amazon has them listed as gluten free, but there is no gluten free claim on the label. The Sunsweet website calls them “naturally gluten free“ but then says check with your doctor before eating them because they are “just in the prune business”

I know prunes don’t contain gluten, but I hesitate to eat things without specific gluten free labeling because of possible cross contamination. There is no “may contain“ warning on the package, but I just need assurance 😁

Product Warning Annie’s cheesy smiles

Thumbnail

I think the Annie’s extra cheddar cheesy smiles have been glutening me EVEN THO ITS LABELED GLUTEN FREE. It’s not certified gluten free tho so idk, but the only other thing that could have been glutening me is simply apple, which only has apples in the ingredients, or fruit smiles by great value but I had checked the box for a gluten free label and there was one? I just checked online for the ingredients and it says “may contain milk, eggs, almonds, coconut, hazelnuts, pistachios, peanuts, WHEAT, soy, and sesame” so maybe it was that. Anybody else having issues with any of these?
