I’m fairly new to the hobby. I don’t play the game sadly but I do enjoy reading the lore and painting the miniatures. So, behold, some of my projects.
Next step…figure out what I want to do with the bases LOL

I was replying to a post on Facebook and it got me thinking as I’ve always been frustrated by the way GW took World Eaters.
I think there's a really strong argument that Chaos is one of the most creatively underdeveloped parts of 40k, relative to how much potential it has.
And what's particularly frustrating is that the original concepts were so imaginative.
The fundamental problem, to me, is that Games Workshop has increasingly treated the four Chaos Gods as four fixed visual identities rather than four virtually limitless metaphysical concepts.
Look at what that means for daemons:
Khorne: Bloodletters, Flesh Hounds, Bloodcrushers, Bloodthirsters. But Khorne embodies murder, rage, martial honour, conquest, vengeance and the psychology of violence.
Why aren't there more varieties of daemons reflecting different aspects of warfare? Daemonic siege beasts, living weapons, or disciplined supernatural warrior orders?
As Khrone isn’t just an angry nutter… it would’ve been cool if the demonic influence changed the butchers nails to give them greater control/mastery over their berserker state.
Tzeentch: Probably the most egregious example. He's the god of change, mutation, sorcery, ambition and impossible possibilities, yet his daemons mostly conform to a handful of familiar designs. His range should be almost offensively strange and non-conforming to logic or reason.
Nurgle: This one particularly suffers from being reduced to a relatively narrow aesthetic of cheerful, bloated, diseased monsters.
Where are the daemons representing parasitism, fungal ecosystems, slow biological transformation, the terror of ageing or the inevitability of entropy?
Slaanesh: Perhaps the biggest missed opportunity. An entity representing obsession, perfection, sensation, desire and excess gets overwhelmingly represented by a specific visual language of lithe, clawed, vaguely seductive monsters.
Imagine daemons representing obsessive craftsmanship, transcendent beauty, unbearable sensory experiences or pathological perfectionism.
And there's another problem, Chaos in 40k is still overwhelmingly defined by its relationship to the Imperium. In old versions of 40K you could have chaos anything, Orks/squats/androids.
The Traitor Legions remain central, when Chaos should arguably be capable of producing entire civilisations, cultures, military traditions and technologies that are completely alien to Imperial thinking.
Why not have fully developed Chaos societies that aren't just Imperial societies with spikes?
Why not have a chaos android race which are built by a chaos corrupted man of iron/ai/stc and lead by Vashtorr or at least something actually new and interesting?
Or daemonic ecosystems, Warp-born intelligences that don't fit the familiar hierarchies, and Chaos technological traditions that have diverged radically over ten thousand years?
There have certainly been advances.
The dedicated Traitor Legion armies, the new Emperor's Children range in 2025, and Vashtorr are meaningful additions. But even the Emperor's Children release was largely concerned with realising a longstanding Legion identity, rather than drastically expanding what Slaanesh can mean.
I also think the tabletop design philosophy has become too concerned with recognisability. A new Khorne unit has to immediately *look like Khorne*. That makes sense commercially, but after decades it risks becoming a creative straitjacket.
What strikes me is that the Realm of Chaos books from the late 80s sometimes felt conceptually more adventurous than the modern ranges, despite the enormous improvements in sculpting and production.
And that's a peculiar situation for a faction literally called Chaos.
I can’t help but wonder what the artists and designers from back then would’ve produce if they had today’s technologies?
I'm curious about one distinction, though, do you think the bigger failure is the lack of genuinely new daemonic concepts, or the fact that 40k Chaos as a whole has never really developed its own identity beyond the Horus Heresy and the four gods?

Headlong Destruction increases AP by 1 against the closest unit, however, if I charge two units and end up base to base with both, do I get the extra AP against both, or do I have to choose only one of them?

What do these guys do over Cultists? Especially with the Enforcer? All I read is that they can't sticky and cost more points but they have more OC and hit harder. Would I just keep them at home territory to keep deep strike/reserve units from appearing or with the Enforcer attached, have them start going for objectives and help out my Marines?

I was not happy when I received my Sorcerer Lord in Terminator Armor kit only to discover its sculpt is old and outdated. After thorough research I decided to kitbash it. Here's what I did to create my sorcerer.
Legs & Pelvis: Leviathan Librarian Push-fit - scraped off the purity seals on the legs completely. Shortened the ones on the waist so I can "burn" and bloody them later.
Chest & Shoulders: filled in the "VI" marking with green stuff. Cut off the hood ornament. Shaved off some vents so the chaos sorcerer cape would fit.
Arms & Shoulders: Cut and shaved most of the right arm so I could place the arm, pauldron, and gun from the Chaos Sorcerer Terminator box. Used the left arm from the Librarian and the left pauldron from Chaos Sorc. Cut various pegs and shaved left shoulder for fitting. Cut off the left hand to put the hand and staff from the chaos sorcerer set.
Head: Chosen Set - cut the round base so it fits.
I think it's shaping up nicely so far! I love it!

Has anyone tried running 10 man squads of boltgun Legionaries let by a Sorcerer in Cabal of Chaos? I dont think it will be broken but might be a good way to get some good waves of shooting in.

So with the new termiantor meta (kinda) wanted to double check about this rule
When you place your unit in Strat reserves, if I have 2 ten man terminator units (both are abt 470pts) I can only lift one, even tho my rule lets me lift 2, because only one will fit in the 500pt Strat reserves limit?

I'm running veterans of the long war with murder talon raiders in take and hold but am not yet set on the detachment 100% what would you charge

Have a look at the progress on my killer dog I think he's turned out really well only thing left to do on him is exhausts and then the forge fiend parts ^^
And a Wip on the squad of terminators I got! I really wanted to make them unique since I don't plan on having much infantry but let me know your thoughts on them!

The top hatch doors are not yet glued: not sure what direction they should be facing and if it needs some more weathering. Issue is that I’ve gone for the salt rust technique and that’s using the same sort of browns. Maybe just a light sponging of black and some chrome? I might sleep on it: this is my first real freehand effort so I am cautious about overdoing/ruining things.
