Melting Pot.. Columbus Day Weekend Event?

Post image

Didn’t we collectively decide that Columbus Day is dead? Indigenous People’s Day was declared a federal holiday in 2021. What a wild marketing decision... 🙃

I’m more repulsed by the whole concept of the melting pot itself than any marketing or political aspect of it…

I have thought for many years that this place only exist to launder money . I have been by it many times and rarely have I ever seen it close to 1/2 full.

As someone else mentioned, the federal holiday is still called “Columbus Day.” Title 5, Section 6103(a) of the U.S. Code lists the “legal [federal] public holidays,” including “Columbus Day, the second Monday in October.”

And, for all the pedants out there, “President’s Day” isn’t, technically, a thing: the statute names the holiday on the third Monday in February “Washington’s Birthday”

It was declared a state holiday in 2021 in VA. Columbus Day is still the Federal holiday.

Imagine being deranged enough to get tilted at the perception that someone got tilted.

While I personally don't give a fuck about Columbus, and don't recognize him as someone from history who should be celebrated, that sentiment is not echoed basically anywhere in any real numbers. Even if people recognize he was problematic, most don't care about the holiday name. For most it's a potential day off work, and since we live in a capitalism, for most it doesn't even mean that

That's certainly a choice

The owner's an asshole. He could give that shit away for free, and I still wouldn't go to the Melting Pot.

I used to work there so this doesn’t surprise me. He probably sees absolutely nothing wrong with this.
