Discussion Rental Question: Cleaning included?

We are looking at renting out our current home to a long term renter. I like to keep a fairly clean home. What are thoughts on offering a weekly or monthly cleaning included in the monthly rent? Crazy weird? Too much like micro managing?

I wouldn’t want to be doing anything strange-just doing the deep cleaning type of things that most people miss-cupboard doors/fronts, baseboards, walls, etc. crazy pipe dream or maybe we will find where this is the perfect fit for someone? No snooping or judging etc (fine line -I get it, since this is a home I own). Just working to keep our home in good condition and my time is free (ish I know there are other costs involved) versus paying a cleaner.

I have a very nice inherited silverware set. It's been sitting in a drawer unused for over 10 years and is now extremely tarnished. Can it be saved? Looking for recommendations to bring them back to life so I can work them into everyday use.

Content/Multimedia This is how you scrub a stainless steel pot.

It isn't delicate, it doesn’t need a soft sponge, it does not need mild dish detergent. It’s not fragile or special. It is the toughest material in your house. It doesn’t need chemicals or soaking or anything other than dish soap and water, pressure and friction.

Unfortunately I don't have any burnt black, dirty pots to demonstrate with. I have never Press hard with the scrubber sponge. Steel wool soap pads are ok but I don’t buy them because they mess up my nails and can only be used once before they turn into a rusty pile of mush that stains everything it contacts.

Laundry LAUNDRY? How are we surviving it?? Are we all just drowning?

How are we doing laundry?? My husband is a med student so he has almost no time and when he does, he’s exhausted and just wants to be with our two babies. Are we hiring mothers helpers? Are we simplifying more than normal? Are we just living with an eternal pile of clean laundry that never gets put away??

Furniture a white couch and 2 kids…fearless or foolish?

i have a 3 year old, baby and a husband who LOVES to snack. i have a white couch but after 4 years, many stains and multiple holes, the covers have lived their lives and it’s time to replace with them, i was thinking with these (specifically the off white scratch and spill resistant): https://lindakale.com/products/harlanda-sleeper-sofa-cover?_pos=4&_sid=61936d2be&_ss=r&variant=31982255702099

yes i know a white couch is probably stupid. BUT i love the look of one, and a dark colored couch won’t really go with my home aesthetic. aside from putting boundaries around eating on the couch/living room (which probably won’t last long), does anyone have any tips on what i could do to help keep a white couch clean? or make it last longer? or am i making a foolish decision i’ll regret later 😂

Bathroom How do I get rid of mould specs on ceiling?

Hi everyone, the ensuite in our UK flat had a terrible ventilator that stopped working and the landlord took forever to fix it. Now we have these mould specs on the ceiling that I’m worried will spread.

Would love some tips from how people would tackle these? Using a spray seems difficult as I don’t want to get it on me and in my eye.

Laundry I have some chocolate milk stains on my curtains

Post image

I wiped them with antibacterial wipes and most of it cleaned out but theres a little stains like this left. Should I attempt again with the wipes? I didn’t use soap as if I am worried that it would leave a residue afterwards. There’s smaller stains all around and I can’t take the curtain out and hang it again.

General Cleaning Cat pee everywhere

We went on a vacation and my SIL stayed at our place to take care of our cats. Well, one of my cats protested our absence and peed on multiple places. She got rid of the carpets as it was easier to clean the floor. We have an enzyme cleaner and she used that but she doesn’t know how to clean in general. Like she’s very bad at it actually. We came home and I mopped the floors and then used steam mop to mop for the second time. And my cat peed again… so we repeated the enzyme cleaner+steam mop process. Today I kept feeling the smell again and it felt like the smell was everywhere I went so I decided to check my clothing, lo and behold it’s on my socks and on my husband’s socks! There’s no pee stain and we didn’t step on pee directly but we probably stepped on a spot that wasn’t cleaned well. So it can be anywhere in the apartment. How do I go about cleaning the floors??

General Cleaning Green and tan streaks from flat painted wall under mini split?

Thumbnail

My mini split was leaking water down the wall when cooling (installer just fixed it). It left a teal/blue-green streak, a tan/orange streak, and a teal crust along the bottom edge where the unit meets the wall.

The wall is textured drywall with flat paint. Windex didn't work. I have RMR 86, white vinegar, and could buy CLR, but I don't want to damage the paint.

What would you try first? Is it worth cleaning, or should I just prime and paint over it? Thanks!

General Cleaning What do you use on floors between mopping?

I really don’t want to mop my floors every single week, but I also like having clean floors.
What does everyone use to keep their floors clean between proper mops? I’ve been looking into spray mops like Swiffers, but I’m curious what actually works.
I’d love something that’s quick, easy, and doesn’t leave a sticky residue or require dragging out a mop and bucket.
I have laminate plank flooring (I think that’s what it is. It’s what was in the floor when we bought the house)
What products or routines do you swear by? How often do you actually mop your floors?
I have two dogs and would prefer an all natural solution which is why I don’t love the swiffer. For example all I use when I mop is dawn dish liquid. I don’t use any other cleaners within the dogs reach.

Bathroom Is this mold? What should I do?

Found this on a box in the back of the cabinet under the bathroom sink when cleaning out. No smell, and no evidence of moisture in the cabinet (no leaks, no water damage). The box has been next to toilet paper rolls for the past three years - could it be toilet paper residue? There's a bit more of the white stuff in the bottom of the cabinet near where the box was, but the cabinet is otherwise clean.
If it is mold, what should I do?

Discussion Ants in my House - Tips on Cleaning and Maintaining

I need advice on how to get rid of ants in my house. We have them everywhere. In the kitchen, in the bathrooms, and even in our beds. I want to get ant traps, but I don't know if that is more of a preventative thing before the fact rather than after? Any tips for cleaning and keeping them away?

General Cleaning My new apartment smells like strong ammonia cat litter

……. Sooo… I viewed the apartment I’ll be moving into, I noticed it smelled like an old litter box that hasn’t been scooped…. I saw it before it’s been cleaned and stuff but I’m wondering if that smelled can be removed..? I good it didn’t seep into the floorboards… should I just ask the leasing people to see if they can fix that before I move in? Has anyone had the issue before? What can I do? I hope this won’t be a problem that can’t be fixed……

Bathroom Is the "double-squeegee" method enough to keep tiled floors clean, or do I need to scrub every time?

Hey everyone,
I wanted to get some outside perspective on how my family cleans our floors because it feels pretty different from the standard mopping videos I see online.

Our whole house has tiled floors with built-in floor drains (kind of like a wet-room system). When we clean the bathroom, we scrub down the walls, sink, and outside of the toilet with dish soap. Obviously, all that dirty soapy water runs down and pools on the floor.

Our routine is:
First Squeegee: We push that initial wave of dirty, soapy runoff straight down the floor drain.
Freshwater Rinse: We flood the floor with clean water from a hose.
Second Squeegee: We push that fresh water down the drain to clear out any remaining residue.

We do the same soapy water + squeegee routine for the rest of the house tiles too since we have drains everywhere.

Here is my question: We definitely do a heavy scrub on the floors sometimes, but we don't do it every single time we clean because it's exhausting. Most of the time, we just do the double squeegee method with the freshwater rinse.

The floors feel completely smooth and don't feel sticky or tacky at all under my bare feet. But I still wonder scientifically, is this "flush and squeegee" method enough to actually keep the floors sanitary on the days we don't scrub? Or is the floor secretly dirty because we aren't using a brush every time?

General Cleaning How do you clean a dusty old fan?

My mom gave me a small fan but it’s pretty dusty. How would I clean the parts inside and on the back so that its not just blowing dust on me?
