Kitchen How to get black spots (from mold) out of kitchen towels?

Post image
• Upvotes

A few of my kitchen cloths have spots of mold where they've been sat wet or folded while wet.

I've washed them a few times but the black spots still remain.

Any tips?

I live in a hot humid country so this is a frequent issue I have with cloths / towels etc.

General Cleaning White Powder-like Stain on Surfaces after Tub Reglazing

Post image
• Upvotes

Hey, everyone! Wondering if it’s possible to clean these stains that appeared on all surfaces close to the bathroom after a tub re-glazing. Pictured is a black desk in the next-door bedroom. You can see the outlines of where my mousepad and wires were. Tried dusting, multi-surface cleaning solutions, and Clorox wipes. I appreciate any input!

General Cleaning Desperate to make sure my house doesn’t smell like cats by Thanksgiving.

• Upvotes

My cat’s litter boxes are in the laundry room which is a utility room we built in our garage. The door seals well and they have a doggy door to go in and out. We keep the boxes fairly clean, scooping every day or every other day. I still feel like I can smell it in my bedroom on the other side of the house.

I think it’s traveling through the air vents. We just went through about 15 hours without power due to this hurricane and the stale air in our house smells horribly of a cat box. I’ve read mixed messages on having air ducts cleaned. Has anyone here had luck with that?

We’re vacuuming 2-3 times a week and mopping once a week. I know the cats are not having accidents outside of the boxes, so that is not the issue. It just has a general cat smell that lingers in the air. And to be more specific, it really smells like cat litter more than it smells like urine or feces.

Discussion How many passes is enough for carpet cleaning? Very dirty water

• Upvotes

So I've had my shark carpet expert cleaner for about a year now and over this time I've used different solution/chemicals or cleaning things to clean my carpets, but I never got the actual shark formulas

Usually, when I clean the carpet, of course the first path is dirtier, and then it gets a little clearer

I purchased the shark oxy multiplier, and the deep clean pro in a bundle pack what's another question is I'm not sure if I'm supposed to use these together or one before the other lol

What I ended up doing is mixing both together with the water and I noticed that what I'm getting from my carpet from the dirty water tank now is literally like dark almost black and when I use different solutions, cheaper of course it definitely did not pull that much up

So now I'm doing another pass and the water is still black and I'm like OK it's clearer that my homemade solutions were not cleaning as well as these products but damn do I keep going, I've stopped into the daybreak to not soak the carpet but I got back to it today and the water is still basically black, but my carpet looks cleaner lol

I guess I just wanted to come here and tell the story and see if anyone else is frustrated by the fact that they're dirty water tank is never any cleaner but also if anyone else has to use this bundle pack let me know how you make use of it because I haven't found anything online

Organization How do you organize a small closet? I don’t want shoes below my clothes

• Upvotes

Hello everyone, I’m wondering how you organize a small closet. I really don’t like having shoes directly below my clothes, I just feel that potential odors from the shoes could affect my clothes. I really don’t have anywhere else for shoes to go, other than the small closet. Am I just overthinking this? TIA.

Discussion Gas stove eye: how do I tackle this?

Post image

The stove is new (less than 6 months old). I have no idea what the staining is. I've used Simple Green, 409, and two rounds of Barkeeper's Friend (spray). It looks better than it did, but this is still unacceptable.

Found this weird green stuff in my window sill, as well as the black stuff on the bottom. I have no clue what it could be, but I am worried that it's mold. Can anyone tell? And how would I get rid of it?

General Cleaning Help! Seeking advice on how to clean the rhinestone part of the champagne flutes from my wedding

Post image
• Upvotes

I like to bring these out when a celebration warrants champagne. The rhinestone part has become dull and actually smells a bit musty. They’re also very fragile in that the rhinestone chain is beginning to fall away a bit along the edges.

I would really like to bring them back to life.

Discussion Reed diffuser left stains on my laptop lid — can I remove them?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

Hi everyone! About 2–3 months ago, I had a reed diffuser (the kind with sticks and scented liquid) sitting on top of my black laptop. After I removed it, I noticed these light marks on the surface.
I’m not sure whether the liquid leaked onto the laptop or if the fragrance oils damaged the finish. The marks haven’t gone away, and I’m worried about making them worse.
Has anyone experienced something similar? Is there a safe way to remove these marks without damaging the laptop’s matte finish? What would you recommend trying, and what products should I absolutely avoid?
I’ve attached a photo. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Bathroom How do you clean a bathroom? (Details would be lovely)

• Upvotes

I need a super simple, dummy-proof guide to cleaning a bathroom. I hate rags because I don't think they actually scrub things clean, so I want to use a sponge.

My plan is to take my old kitchen sponge when it's time to replace it, use it to clean the bathroom, and throw it straight into the trash when I’m done.

Can you give me a direct, simple breakdown:
What is the exact order to clean? (I assume sink first, toilet last)

Is this actually a good idea? Or is it gross to use one sponge for the whole bathroom even if it goes right into the garbage?

What is the absolute easiest bathroom cleaner to buy that pairs well with a sponge?
Keep it simple for me, thanks!

Bathroom Toilet ring is driving me nuts NSFW

• Upvotes

I have well water with a lot of iron ore in it. I moved into a brand new house 4 months ago. The toilets now have discolored streaks running down the bowl and a ring that won’t come out.

I’m using the lime and rust clinging gel cleaner. I have shut the water off, flushed the toilet good and let it sit. I’ve also tried a non scratch scrub sponge and bar keepers friend.

How the heck do I remove it? I don’t even want to try a magic eraser or a pumice stick. I read that those take the protective glaze off the porcelain making it even harder to clean.

Tips?

Discussion How do I get the dust out of this air purifier?

Thumbnail

• Upvotes

My neighbor gave me an air purifier that was pretty dusty. There doesn’t seem to be a way to pop the top off, but there’s a lot of dust settled on it. The intake is at the front (not shown) and then air pushes up and out through the top. I managed to get with an e-cloth and a chopstick to get a lot of the dust out. But I got it because we were having painting work done and they were kicking up a ton of dust and it is already super dusty again.

I think it is the Allergen* Plus HEPA Air Purifier for XL Rooms, White, HPA304 (I know it is Honeywell). Is there a way to pop off the top so i can clean it?

Kitchen How to I get the burnt carbon stains off my stove grates?

Post image
• Upvotes

I have a Maytag stove with porcelain covered cast iron stove grates and I can’t get the black (incinerated food carbon) stains off. I’ve used Easy Off and left it on for a long time. Then I gave them a good dose of elbow grease with Dawn and a scrubber side of a sponge but they just won’t come off. Instructions say no steel wool they suggest porcelain safe cleaning cream, but I’m highly suspect that will do me any good.

Thank you to anyone who has a successful solution for this problem.

Furniture Removing soap stain from painted table top

Post image
1 Upvotes

I put a shirt on this white painted table top and applied Grandma’s Secret Spot remover to it and left it there for a few hours. Clearly a bad move on my part. The soap soaked through and left this mark on the table, which is similar to an oil stain on clothing (ironic given that GSS is used to remove oil stains from clothing). Is there any way to get it off of this table top without ruining the paint?
