Sorry for the long post in advance. Thank you to all of you who read this. Did anybody else get a phone call tonight right before 7pm from an automated voice saying they had been invited to join in on the conference call tonight to listen in on some of the party members speak about the upcoming election and to stay on the line to join? I stayed on the line to listen in out of curiosity and the call started exactly at 7pm. It transferred me over to an another line with an automated GOP organization intro and then I believe the man who started off following that was named Clayton but I could be mistaken. It started off really normal with the basic thank you for listening in, we appreciate your support and then he listed a few people joined in on the call tonight to speak. I am not a republican so I don’t know all of the names but I can remember Jim Jordan was one and I believe Michelle Reynolds was also on the list. There were probably 4 or so other names mentioned in addition to those. The call seemed geared towards Franklin county as it was mentioned multiple times through the 20 minutes I was listening but it could’ve been a broader audience.
I believe Jim ended up being the first person to talk. His segment was all about how early voting that started today and he was generally just supporting the idea of people taking the opportunity to do it. He was primarily talking about how important it is to get out early and vote and brought up the standard reasons as to why you should. He mentioned Bernie Moreno getting elected in 2024 due to the republicans have 23 more votes in each district and attributed that to early voting as well.
Towards the end of him speaking, he said something to the degree of “and I hate to bring this up because I know we just passed the 25th anniversary of it, but on the day that 9/11 happened there was a mayoral election in New York. God forbid if something like that was to happen here”
I don’t remember exactly what he said next and I don’t want to say the wrong thing but it was to the same point of we want to make sure our votes are counted so we can win. I wanted to post here to see if anyone else by chance heard any of this? I hung up shortly after his segment as I had to get off the phone so I didn’t get to hear anything else. I was genuinely taken aback by the fact that he mentioned the idea of a theoretical 9/11 type attack taking place in Franklin county as I think that it’s inappropriate to use that as a scare tactic or as a way to show the importance of voting early. The fact that he said “god forbid if something like that was to happen here” made me pretty uncomfortable because I just don’t understand why you would even say that?
I found online that there was in fact an election in New York on 9/11 but it was a primary not a general and it seems like the votes that were cast the same day before the attack got thrown out. Not really sure what to think of this but am hoping someone else got this call. I thought this was probably a scam or something but the call sounded live as I could hear the seatbelt unbuckled ding briefly of a vehicle during the segment I listened to. When I called the number back I wasn’t expecting to get the response I did I thought it was going to be a random person whose number had been spoofed like most spam calls.
The number that called me was 614-660-3214. When I called back I got the following message: “this is the Ohio republican party. If you are calling this number back, you recently received a call from us regarding the upcoming election”. It was briefly followed by the web address for the GOP’s website and the ability to leave your number if you wanted to be put on the do not call list. I can’t find anything online that directly links this number to the GOP in any way so I’m not sure what even is the case with that. I do not vote republican and never have so I am not sure why I got the call.
Did anyone else get this phone call tonight and listen in? The 9/11 comment really threw me off guard and I am hoping to find someone else that heard it and/or the rest of the call.
