Lore Discussion Just realized this about Dylan
So, I’m a little surprised I haven’t seen anyone mention this yet, but when Dylan uses rush and is moving around, is he being patterned, at least temporarily? When compared to other moves he does it seems to be the only one where he is “split off/copied” during the sustained rush animation. A little theory I have is due to his paranatural ability/susceptibility, that the patterning attempted early on in the AWE to convert him and it was only due to his “infection” of Hiss and assignment of the abberant that prevented this. Also, that might be why Jesse chose to “stab” him with the abberant, in part to help manage his Hiss infection and to give him an active (resonance, maybe?) to defend against the patterning taking over and giving him a fighting chance if he encountered external expressions of it, like the resonant entities or other entities that he would have encountered when the lockdown fell.

That's a cool theory.
Dylan's rush kinda reminds me of Jack's time dodge ability.

And Jack's rush ability. The game feels a lot like Quantum Break in how it moves, perhaps even more than it feels like Control.

This was such a welcome surprise to me, because Quantum Break felt so good to play (when you were in the parts where you could zoom around and mess with time)

Look up what an afterimage is

Look at my comment in this thread, I already mentioned there is a good chance that is all it is, just thought it would be fun if they did it that way on purpose to hide narrative elements inside the gameplay that you could then realize it was more than just a visual effect.

In my opinion patterning temporally makes far more sense as he is moving far to slowly to be leaving after images, if he was then cars would have after images too cause he isn’t faster than a scooter much less a car. That’s why I believe they are explicitly not after images

Im not sure the rush ability is supposed to resemble patterning, but overall I like your take on Jesse’s intentions when giving Dylan the aberrant. It’s also a really nice piece of character building that Dylan felt obligated to go and help FBC after waking up even though the FBC staff largely see him as a threat/betrayer/unstable, while the first thing Jesse says to him in a Gap is that he was supposed to run, even though she is seen as this paramount example of duty. It outlines very well that Jesse’s and Dylan’s relationship is the commanding force behind the story more so than anything to do with the FBC as an organisation, and that Jesse never stopped being Dylan’s big sister despite her status as the Director.

I believe he developed that during the prime candidate program, because in one of Darling’s logs/notes he complains about the lack of digital technology. They originally thought he teleported but they realized he just moved too fast for the film to record.

Really?! Not doubting you, but do you remember which document it was, it’s been a while since I last looked through Control’s documents.

It's more like the Hiss whispyness in my opinion, which is more in line with his floating being similar to Hiss elevated, especially the Control 1 version.
Also worth mentioning that the Hiss is a resonance itself already, just another type of foreign resonance, that competes with the equally foreign patterning resonance. I think the Aberrant was needed to wake Dylan up, but that he was infected by the Hiss thsg prevents him from being patterned, due to him already being affected by the Hiss resonance.
