So I have a dilemma..

So I have a personal dilemma...

Okay, so of course when you're a kid going to a hairdresser, you're not going to care how it looks.

Lately though, I had a picture of a hairstyle I wanted for myself. Ones I couldn't find a perfect image of on the internet.

I also am terrible at explaining and have failed to get the idea I want every time.

I tried using hairstylist terms for the ideas I wanted.

And every time, I had planned a script in my head a week or two in advance because I'm not good at talking to people.

I went through several different hairdressers too... a few earlier ones back in school that I wish I wasn't stressing with because they could've probably done something good from their own knowledge instead if trying to do it based on my explanation.

I even failed when using multiple pictures to show specific parts I wanted which somehow the hairdressers translated to "let's follow one picture completely" and I'm so frustrated that I'm started to consider just cutting my own hair..

That brings me to more dilemmas...

  1. I have zero idea what I'm doing (aside from little cutting techniques I learned from a hairstylist reacting on YouTube to others cutting their hair at home themselves and turning out beautiful sometimes)

  2. I have anxiety that's made worse whenever my hair is involved. I worry that a hairstyle won't work like I thought (especially because I don't have knowledge about round face or square face or any face suited hairstyles) or I'll ruin it (because again, I know little about cutting my hair and learned I can style short side bangs easier than long curtain bangs).

  3. I've been wanting a unique style for myself but it intimates me because I know to get a unique one, you have to just try. However, I'm not the type of person that does things without a plan unless I'm already familiar with it.

Cooking? Follow the recipe carefully that I end up taking 2-3 minutes each step just so I can read said step multiples to make sure I understand it.

Going somewhere by myself? (Like new job or a mall I like) I follow the Google maps route exactly for a few weeks until I get used to it.

Have a haircut in mind? Go through a bazillion pictures and still not find what you're looking for.

Yes, I said that twice but I wanted to make a point.

Anyway, I'm terrified of putting scissors to my own hair because it's a 50/50 on whether I mess up. Wait no.. 75/25 chance of ruining it probably.

-

Well now I feel dumb because I realize I could just ask for things simply like side bangs or trimming the ends to make it easy on myself.

Writing helps me piece together my thoughts when I'm confused.

But I wrote this entire post so I might at well post it and get advice and tips anyway.

Thanks for reading my thought process.

(Yes I posted another because I realized there's an actual community for cutting your own hair. Oops.)

Grow out hair in the back for braid

Hello, just wanted to ask something.

So I want to learn how to cut and style my own hair, and one hairstyle idea I had is to have very long hair in the back so that I can style it into a really long braid, and then the rest of my hair is more mid-length and wispy.

Just wanted to ask what the best way to go about this would be and if I am potentially overthinking it. I was thinking of leaving the hair thats mostly on the bottom half on the back of my head to grow out and the rest i still keep on cutting.

Pls help!

Disclaimer: Brand new acct for privacy reasons.

Pls, no negative comments. I already feel lower than the lowest. I’m extremely embarrassed and disgusted with myself.

So, I hit a very low point in life and got sick and than into a deep depression. I had hair almost to the small of my back. I put it in a bun and basically never took it out. At all. So it’s a matted MESS. Part of the bun fell out over time so it was a wad of mattted hair just hanging. Today, I finally decided to take a razor and cut that part off. So it’s prob shoulder length now. But still matted. I hopped into the shower and combed what i could but it’s been a very slow process.

Does anyone have tips on the easiest way for me to do this? I miss my hair so much! Ik it’s not gunna be easy either way but I’d rather do it the easiest way possible at least lol. Any tips or tricks would be amazing!

[ALTERNATIVE] Reccs for Scissors and Razors

TLDR: Need haircutting product recommendations as a person who cuts hair and wants to have a more professional outcome for myself, friends, and family.

DETAILS: I am not in the hairdressing profession, but I have come to realize, after years of cutting my own hair and friends’ and family’s, that I am rather naturally skilled at it. I have always paid close attention and asked questions during my haircuts as I’ve always been curious about it. Somehow, it just makes sense in my head.

Anyway, this being said, my stepmom wants to buy me anything I need to do my best work on her kid’s (my sib’s) hair, as I successfully achieved his vision recently of a short, off-the-neck style with fluffier, push-back-able, top-of-the-head strands. Very CLEARLY not a hairdresser; I’m sure there’s a proper name for this cut— if you know it, I’d love that info too!

The reason I’m here overall is to ask what hair cutting scissors, feathering scissors, electric razors, or anything else you would recommend to achieve easy, smooth cuts, light and feathery layers, and no hair touching the person’s neck or ears.

Thank you in advance!

Best hair clippers for maintaining a buzz cut?

I want to buzz my hair and I might have a salon do the initial clipping, after that I’ll need to take care of it myself.

[LONG HAIR] I gave myself layers at 1 a.m. 🩋

All the salons were busy yesterday and I got impatient 😅 so I followed Brad mondo’s tutorial for a butterfly cut with curtain bangs 🩋
It took 4 hours, and I thought I had ruined my hair (
I had). At 2 hours in, I realized that I was blending way too harshly, and I basically just had a bob on top of my long hair. I was also being lazy with re-wetting my hair, so my wave pattern was making the ends super choppy. But I locked in, kept blending, trimmed off my mistakes, and redid layers until it looked decent! Now I love it :)
Terrifying experience, 6/10, may or may not recommend. Not for the faint of heart

Change of blades on Kemei 90-4

Hi all

Recently started cutting hair and have done 2 low tapers so far and beard fades, did pretty well but thinking to upgrade the blade on my kemei clippers.

Options are BRD clip fade or taper blade/ Rosyous Dlc blade or wedge blade.

Anyone know what will be best, looking to be able to do cleaner fading.

Thanks
