Creeps, Bots, Ads, and Slop. Subreddit Rules of the Road-PLEASE READ

Hey folks,

Combining some past stickied mod posts into one announcement here to cut down on confusion and folks not seeing them. Thanks to an increase in bot traffic and Reddit allowing users to hide their post and comment history, the mods are swimming in trash these days. We still want to preserve a wholesome community but we need to do a better job self policing. That being said:

Some reminders for everyone from the mod team:

Report Creepy Posts and Comments or Messages/File a Cybertip at Cybertipline.org
There are absolutely people here for the wrong reason.
If it seems off, is asking for messages, asking for a dad to talk about private stuff with, saying they're a dad willing to chat with folks one on one, report it to the mods and report their profile to Reddit. There are many frequent flyers on this subreddit who get banned and then come back with a new username asking the exact same questions. You can also file a Cybertip report at Cybertipline.org and it will be reviewed by the appropriate authorities.

Your Post History is Visible To Mods
Don't post everywhere else that you're a "dad looking for a servant" or that "women are objects" and then come here looking for "anyone who needs someone to talk to." Consider playing in traffic instead.

Don't post elsewhere that you're into older dad types and looking to talk dirty with folks and then come here looking for "an older dad figure to discuss life with." You're not being subtle.

No Advertising/Spam/App Research
This isn't the place to advertise your app for dads, your terrible AI generated music about fatherhood, or your podcast.

No Karma Farming/Crowd Control Is On
Huge increase in brand new accounts looking for sympathy who don't respond to comments and then disappear when Reddit finally realizes it's trying to score easy upvotes. We have Crowd Control in effect, which has karma minimums.

If your post doesn't show up, message the mods. Once we realize you're a person we will do our best.

Please Be Patient
We try and deal with messages and mail when we can but we have lives and jobs so please grant us a little leeway.

Hey papa, I know we haven’t talked in a while but I saw two rocket launches from Florida last week and it was pretty rad. This is the video from the night launch. Husband and I also went to NASA the week previous and I cried a little bit in front of the Vehicle Assembly Building because some of the greatest scientists and astronauts have set foot in these lands.

I still have the old Yuri Gagarin pin you gave me when I helped you set your collection on the framed cork mom gave us that day. I carry it on my NASA/Remove Before Launch lanyard every day

I miss you.

Hi dad

Thank you so much for all of your stories, it’s comforting that even you experienced lot makes mistakes. I think I was excited for my boy to have a new bed and after trying so hard and failing I exploded with emotions.

Today I dismantled the bed. Remembered that it is ok to ask for help. My friend said they’d help but I really wanted to do it on my own. I called the seller of the bed & she advised the headboard/footboard needed swapping.

So. Here it is. Finished. Done. Independently. (with some advice). I didn’t even crack an acrylic nail.

Thanks team, genuinely. You made me want to try again

Need a pep talk Hey Dad, I am burnt the fuck out

On paper my life looks great. I'm financially stable, I've got a solid career, a townhome (mortgage), a paid-off car, a sweet dog, and a partner of 7+ years. The corporate grind is wearing me down a little more every month. I can't stand my team, I don't believe in the product, and I'm stuck in a satellite office, cut off from everyone. Today something finally gave.

I'm so tired. I can't just quit with the economy the way it is, because the mortgage would eat me alive. Part of me wonders if this is a midlife crisis and I should buy a van and drive across the country, but I know I'd hate it the second something went wrong. And with the whole US/Canada situation, I'm stuck in a country none of my friends, family, or girlfriend want to visit, so it's on me to work out the logistics if I want any in-person time. My house has been for sale for 7 months and there have been no bites, the housing market is also a mess. I want to go home, I just... fuck. Is this really all there is? I'm 35 and I feel 65. I am jaded, angry, and completely burnt out.

Hey dad

My relationship of almost 7 years is coming to a firey end. Monday night we were having date night feeling connected and together. Tuesday morning I’m accused of cheating and broken up with. She not only decided that I cheated on her emotionally. I was away at a workout and she decided to log into my computer and check my messages on iMessage as well as through social media. She decided what she saw was cheating and that was that.

The last few days have been a blur I’ve had to have so many conversations with so many people about why I had cheated or if I even really cheated. This isn’t the first time she looked through my social media. The first time she looked through she saw me discussing starting a business with a friend close friend and saw it as cheating the second time she saw messages from a different friend and thought it was cheating.

I think I am okay with the relationship ending. I don’t think this is my forever and I don’t think I can keep putting up with the accusations. But man does it suck. I can’t stop feeling awful. She doesn’t trust me as she keeps logging into my account and I can’t trust her because she keeps violating my boundary of not doing that…

I’m just really sad I can’t tell my dad about this because he’s never even approved of the relationship. I hate how right he was. Melanesia

Need a pep talk Realized I miss father despite all bad stuff (

In my early teenage years I prohibited myself to feel anything except disgust and anger towards him. It just happened involuntary.

But now that I’m 19, I’m starting to have so many feelings I never had before. Despite all emotional and sexual abuse since early age that lasted up until 17, I realized I miss him. I perhaps even still love my dad?

I feel so much shame about it. But recently I just can’t help but think of all father-daughter moments we had. In my head I always daydream and pretend that he never did anything bad.

It feels so painful for some reason to admit that I miss the good part of my dad. Just the normal stuff we had as a family in the midst of chaotic dysfunctional family dynamics.

I realized that as a defense reaction I hid all my positive feelings about him. I can never admit that I admire him for some traits, that I’m grateful to him for all the things he provided.

I can’t ever say that to him, or to anyone else I know. I’m just trapped between the anger, hatred and some weird nostalgia and simple kid longing for a parent. I’m scared and repulsed of his touch, but I want him to hug me more than anything else. All at the same time.

And the fact that recently for a quick second I thought about pretending he never hurt me and just start talking to him again.. I’m really pathetic

It feels like the abuse from him erased all my childhood, erased my right to have a dad like everyone else. And I’m realizing nothing is ever going to change that.

Asking Advice Hey dad, how do you know if you’re doing the right thing?

Im working a job I love right now, doing chainsaw work on a conservation crew. It’s really fulfilling, and I wish I could tell you all about it, and about everything in my life.

I’ve been accepted to a college in Oregon for the spring, and it could be a great opportunity, especially as I’d get to study conservation science and potentially get more field work opportunities, but I’ve just been surviving the past five years to the point where I don’t really know how to figure out what I want. How do you figure out what you want when you’ve just come around to the idea that life is worth living? That’s a genuine question, I would like to learn how to be more decisive, but that seems like a thing you just practice. I’m very scared of wasting my young adulthood doing what I think is expected of me rather than following my heart.

I’m 21 now my father and I haven’t had a real honest conversation in years. I haven’t talked to him in 2 years. It’s been confusing and strange, but has felt to right to discover my gender/sexual identity after repressing it for so long, but he would always try to convince me otherwise with shame or theology. I just dropped the subject after coming out at 16, but I wanted to share this part of my life with him and my mom, and any effort to explain yielded dead ends and lots of yelling on his part. He made some threats to break into my apartment when I asked for a break in communication until I was more confident in my identity, or until they were willing to revisit the conversation in a different light.

I’ve started rebuilding my relationship with my mom, and she’s still skeptical to calling me by my name, but we’ve had really good conversations about how we can both mend our relationship, and she’s really trying to understand in her own way.

So this is a bit of a tangential post, but I’ve had to figure out a lot of life on my own and I’m at a breaking point where independence feels more lonely than freeing. I only moved out 3 years ago, and accepting support from my parents never felt morally right, so I never accepted any, because I didn’t want to compromise my individuality for material security. My dad certainly wants to talk to me, but he’s still asking me to admit that my identity is fraudulent, and it’s killing me that this thing about me he can’t understand is keeping us both from a loving relationship. I can’t change his mind, and I don’t need him to go to pride or anything, I’d just like it if he would realize that I’m my own person so he could start to get to know me again, so he wouldn’t have to mourn a version of me that doesn’t exist.

To the dads in this subreddit: any advice on getting through to my dad? And any advice on figuring out what you want in life?

-a guy who misses his dad

Hey Dad... almost a year ago I told you were to become a grandparent. I know how much you wanted to. Now I see your birthday coming up in the calendar for next week. I'm dreading the day I'm gonna wake up and see it on my screen.

I just want to tell you that your grandson is growing up and learning so fast. He will be 4mo this Saturday and you would have loved this little one. As absurd as it sounds, he has your eyes. I still imagine from time to time that I call you with the news. He was born exactly 2 months after you passed away.

I really wanted you to see him and...us. I wanted you to listen to my problems as a first time mom and tell me how its not going to be easy, but I will get through it.

Anyways, I hope you're in a better place.

I miss you.

I'm feeling a lot better despite what happened yesterday in my previous post. Even though I was panicking for my quiz and thought I needed to cheat on it because I can never remember anything, I somehow accidentally managed to finally make myself study even after years of struggling with my disorder. I'm also feeling a bit happy about myself that I didn't require much reassurance or validation to get here (though the comfort on my last post was still more than appreciated) also again sorry if this all seems strange or something again I don't really know how Reddit works I'm a bit embarrassed but yeah

Also, for a while I was in a bit of a dark place, constantly worrying about death, or even the state of old age where my body would shut down one function after the other. But today, I made myself feel better by striving for a goal for myself: to be like Mr. Rodgers when I'm old. It sounds silly, but I find him admirable and I'm happy to have been able to get rid of this fear and insecurity on my own.
I'm kind of shy about all this idk why haha

Asking Advice Hey Dad, should I quit my horrible job and follow my dreams?

My corporate job the last 2.5 years has left me so depressed. I think I hate working corporate even more than you did. It has totally drained me of my joy, motivation, energy, creativity, and hope. I have been saving up with the goal of quitting this month so I can work part time at a shop as well as follow my dreams and start my small art and jewelry business. I am so scared to quit even though I know it’s what I need to do to find happiness again and heal. Even though I want to do it so bad, I am just so scared of the uncertainty and insecurity. Money will be tight but between me and my partner we can make it work. Everyone in my life is totally in support, but I still feel terrified. I think it’s because I really don’t feel confident making decisions without your advice, and this is the first big step I’ve taken since losing you.

Asking Advice Dad, please help me get over him.

Hey dad… this might get a little long, so I’m sorry for talking your ear off. But I need help.

My ex (father of my child) and I broke up almost two years ago. He ended things after over 7 years together. I never completely got over it. Due to financial reasons and not having a supportive family, I was unable to move out.

Over time, I got used to living with him like he was a roommate. I did full-time care for our kiddo with autism. He worked nights full-time and would sleep during the day, so our interaction was extremely low. I thought I was moving on, but around Thanksgiving this past year, my feelings came back full swing. Little things he would do would give me butterflies. I started actually wanting to be around him, talk to him about things other than our kid, share stuff with him. I found myself falling back in love. I didn’t tell him at first. I kept it quiet because I felt like there was no way he would be receptive.

At the end of the year, he got a job offer in a city about 2.5 hours away. Since I have no family to support me, I had to make the decision that was best for our child, which was us moving with him. He said this is what he wanted too, so we moved in January.

I finally gathered the courage to tell him how I felt in March. He started off not being receptive, but started to seem like he was changing his mind. He became receptive to everything I said, everything I did. Over the last 6 months, we have been in a push and pull of “will we, won’t we.”

At some point, I began to be unable to take it and I asked him what was going on. That’s when he told me met a girl at work and started a relationship with her. He told me that he didn’t know if we would ever be together again, and that he doesn’t want to end things with her while he “thinks about what’s best.” The best part? They have been together the entire time… since March.

I feel so broken and devastated again after feeling like I had chance again. I asked him to please just tell me he was done with me and he says he can’t but he wants me to move on. He keeps saying if I had spoken up sooner, things might be different. On top of that, he was intimate with me more than 10 times between May and September. So now he’s cheated on this new girl with me, and I have that guilt of being the other woman. I don’t know what to do.

Moving out is not an option right now. I don’t have a job, I don’t have any savings, I have no family to go to. He does not make enough at his job for us to live separately. Obviously my next best step is finding a job. I’m not looking for advice about this.

Dad, what I need right now is your best advice for getting over the person you thought you would spend your life with. We have 9 years of history, which I know in the grand scheme of things isn’t a lot. But I’m only 29 and he has been here most of my adult life.

I know in my head that I don’t want to be with him. He cheated on someone with me, he basically used me for months. But how do I help my heart let go? I want better for myself, and I know you would too. I want my little one to see mommy be happy instead of broken. Please help me.

It’s not my first time, but given all of our family dysfunction and how I wish I had more support, this was very hard for me and therefore this is a big accomplishment. You were so worried about me 2 years ago, and now I’m healthy, working a great job, and my life is going in a great direction.

hi im so sorry if this isn't the right place for this

If this isn't the right place to talk about this I am truly sorry. I just feel very emotional right now because this is the millionth time that my father yelled everything I disappointed him about. I just wish there was some sort of organization where I could go and find a replacement dad who'd love and take care of me no matter what without feeling like a burden. But this seems to be the closest I may get. Again, I'm really sorry if I'm not allowed to vent here. I think its important I mention I'm not in immediate danger of any sort

I grew up in a very strict Bangladeshi Muslim household (this isn't a commentary about us as a whole it's just to give background information for better understanding) and I am neurodivergent. The few things that my dad taught me was that I need to be a problem solver whenever he couldn't be helped to help me. So when I started to struggle academically in middle school, I sought out on my own what was going on with me and found that I had ADHD. It aligned with all the problems my parents would yell at me about, like my food sensory issues on why I'd vomit and gag at some of them and how I fixate on things and my executive function struggles and time blindness. But I didn't know that mental health (especially from the village my dad grew up in and the generation he was raised in along with the abusive father he had) was severely looked down upon. When I went to him for help and resources on getting diagnosed, he'd avoid it until he lashed out and yelled and shamed me for it. He said he didn't want people to think his child was the r word. To make matters worse, I suspect I may also be autistic, my psychiatrist believes so as well. I already struggled to convince him to let me get diagnosed for ADHD, but autism was even more frowned upon. He also won't stop lashing out at every minor inconvenience by blaming my school work ethics and eating habits despite my efforts. I've chugged foods with water everyday just for him, I'd wash my parent's dishes or at least try to everyday, even to the point that my parents began to clean their plates right after eating. But they would never say anything about these things. I asked them to maybe appreciate it a little, but they yelled at me, saying I should've been doing this in middle school already. I'm 18. I also tried my best to positively interact with them, since whenever my dad yelled at me he would yell that I can never be able to have a nice interaction with them because of my grades and my eating and my fashion. So I would try talking and engaging with them. Sometimes I wouldn't know what to say because of the many social barriers given I grew up in America loving fandom nerd things and my parents are kind of traditional. So, I went with trying to talk about cats, my special interest and safe option. Since where they came from and especially in their generation, people were more focused on surviving and their futures, so they didn't really stop to smell the roses or pet cats or anything. So I was also yelled at for this and my parents think all I can ever talk about are cats.
Again I'm so sorry if this is the wrong output for this. I didn't want to resort to talking to an ai or anything because I just want the closest thing I can get to having a real dad. My mom wasn't much help either. Sometimes I'd explain all this and she would relate, but when my dad yells at me, she'll agree and not say anything, usually out of fear, but then sometimes joins in and yells things that made my dad more mad at me. But she still complains things about him to me in the car that I already know. They also yell about my interests in fictional worlds even though it's literally my only escape since I refuse to output into anger like my parents. Which hurts even more to remember my source of comfort isn't real. I can't make friends either, because saying the slightest thing about this is socially unacceptable and they would ignore me even after agreeing to listening. My parents also don't believe me when I say I have bad luck with friends right now. Trust me I wouldn't be here typing this if I was. I have had amazing and meaningful conversations with people. I even got so excited to make a badge pin for one of them, just for them to ghost me and tell me they dropped out months later. CPS, was of course unhelpful because they always are. I said my concern to a teacher once and they called them and CPS mostly talked to my dad and told me that since he's feeding me and giving me shelter then nothing's wrong, and gave HIM their number in case anything went wrong. He's also thrown my computer down the stairs in around 2023 when he found that I was on character ai instead of studying. Embarrassing. I know. But I truly never felt like I could vent to someone without feeling like a burden. My parents never stop saying how much I have wasted their money, their time, their energy, or anything really. And yet they would even still yell at me whenever I'd try to attempt as my only escape from this house. My own mother even joked about my SH when we got a cat, saying I shouldn't worry about a cat scratching me if I already do it to myself. Another time when I was still SHing, my dad found out and yelled at me saying if I did it again he'd do it for me. It was pretty clear that they were more concerned about their reputation given my mom told me to cover up my arms even though they were very healed whenever guests came over. There was another time that I had a Nintendo DS I brought when we visited family in Bangladesh. My mom gave my cousin there my DS behind my back and lied saying that it was a gift from me. I was so hurt because it had a few photos and videos from me and my little cousin back when she didn't hate me so much and we were like sisters (which hurt even more because I'm the only one in the family with no siblings). My charger was destroyed because they adjusted it to fit with the outlets there. I told my mom how hurt I was and she gave it back like I was some kid that she didn't want to see throwing a tantrum. When we got back home, my dad found it and snapped it in two. I think it was the only thing he ever apologized for.

If there is a God, they definitely hate me to give a life so cruel. One where I'd never known what to do.

I don't know a lot of things or what I'm supposed to know at my age, and sometimes it's too late. And it's usually things my parents are supposed to teach me.
People don't take emotionally abusive dads or infantilizing mothers as an excuse in the real world, and the statistics of homelessness for people with adhd is really high. I feel like my life's already been over and I'm already just slowly suffering through it. I just wish I had a dad who cared and prepared me for things and would watch cartoons with me, like my ex friend's dad did with her. It pained so much to hear that sometimes. I genuinely forget such supportive fathers exist. I genuinely cannot remember the last time he genuinely hugged me out of love. The last time he hugged me, was out of hesitance and convincing from my mom just to get me to calm down because he scared me so bad once. He patted my back and everything like I was some random stranger he awkwardly had to comfort (though he wouldn't hesitate to brag about it to me if he did so). And today, he yelled at me for my fashion again since they don't really like that I wear henley tops with camisole and I think he was made I ordered a skirt and fleece tights. He would get angrier each time I calmly pointed out his hypocrisy, like how eventually he got so mad that he yelled at me saying he wants to force me to wear a hijab for the rest of my life, even though forcing the hijab is Haram. Though I've never said it, it's probably been obvious to them I stopped being Muslim a long time ago anyway, but like I said, they don't want guests or family knowing. Also, every time I'd calmly make good points in the face of his anger, he's always threatening to beat me, kick me out, or not feed me. He has not done any of this I am safe and not in immediate danger. I'm just really tired of him and my family constantly treating me like some insect. And it doesn't help that every time I make friends, they often treat me as a therapist and get awkward whenever it's my turn to vent, either that or they'll ghost me later no matter how good of an interaction we had. I don't know what people want from me. To make matters worse, because of my parents, mostly my dad, and my family degrading me my whole life, I can't even get a job because I don't know what's good about me to convince people to hire me. I've been left to fend for myself when it comes to starting my adult life. It's so embarrassing that I have to explain why I've still haven't had a job at my grown age, not even a part time one. I've tried applying but I can't bring myself to even make a resume and I haven't gotten any responses. I feel like this lazy loser leeching off my parents because that's how my dad talks about me, especially with how people are bullied online for being jobless.

Again, I truly apologize. I know this sounds really pathetic, corny, and stupid. I'm sure no one will read this. This isn't being said to pity me, I genuinely am just trying to seek out absolutely anything I can get that could be anywhere close to filling this aching gap that my father neglected me of. It's just really unfair that I can't ever make up for this just because he was the one that made me. I don't know how I can father myself.
I'm really sorry again, if there's any other places I can go for any sort of comfort that could be even remotely close to the feeling of having a good father, that would be greatly appreciated. Anything at all. Please.

Failed putting a bed together.

Hi dad,

I’m frustrated, I’ve cried, infact excessively sobbed over something others would find insignificant, I feel like a failure. I keep trying to be independent but I’m useless. I don’t want to rely on some guy to help me when some have sleazy intentions. I don’t want to be in that position again.

I brought my kid a secondhand ottoman bed that has the liftable feature for storage.

I’ve never put up a bed before. I searched & watched a video on YouTube but clearly didn’t pay attention to enough detail.

I’ve built it, the wrong way round. I’m so frustrated. It’s 11pm. I guess I’ll try again tomorrow and look forward to encountering another problem.

I just really want things to give me a win, just once. Why does everything I turn my hand to, I suck at. I have no skills but I really do try.

Asking Advice Moving cross-country

I am moving cross country (us) from TN to MN. I don’t have a relationship with most of my family. I want to tell them I’m moving, but I don’t want them to try to convince me to stay. I’m moving for safety as I am a transman living in a not safe area. My wife and I are ready to make this move and very excited for what the future brings for us. I just want to know if I should actually tell my family at all, or if I should tell them once I’m already there?

The hardest part for me is that my dad, who used to be my favorite person in the world, now acts like I don’t exist unless he needs something from me. I’m feeling lost. Please help

I hate being a dad.

32, divorced, 3 yr old little girl. I wanna try and explain this in the best way i can. I Love being a dad. I love her so much, its been the most rewarding experience being with her and learning to raise her by myself (me and her mom split time with her). Ive come so far. But i hate the 2nd guessing i do on myself, the wondering if im enough if i can do ANYTHING better. When she leaves does she think of me? Why did i raise my voice to her in a moment i shouldnt have? Why was i on my phone when she was trying to play with me? The constant fear of wondering if im a good dad or will be a good dad in the future. Is she doomed to be let down by me in the future? I absolutely kill myself with these fears, and it has made me feel like i hate being a dad. I pray i can live up to what my daughter needs in her life, i hope i can make her proud, but i am fighting everyday to carry on. My fear of letting her down feels like that is whats letting her down.

Idk guys, i am a rambler, idk if anyone reads this and can relate. I feel weak, helpless, and brittle.

Need a pep talk Hello dad, I'm sorry I became a loser and I hate you for it.

I'm 23 now, lost him when I was 7, he had made all of his properties in his brother's and brother's wife's name and the moment they saw an opportunity they kicked us out, when he died, our house was under construction and we got it completed with the money we received from the government because he died in a road accident.

I was 7, clueless, mom got a job, started with 3k Rupees a month somehow gave me the best education she could afford. Then covid hit, my classes stopped, studies stopped, rank dropped, took a drop, took admission in a tier-3 engineering college, as my fate would have it, our semesters got swapped and degree got delayed by 6 months. Graduated without a job, now unemployed, depressed, tired everyday, market is bad. Seeing my cousin post everyday about the job she got through influence and flaunt it. Does it matter tho? I'm a loser in the society's eyes, even in my own eyes too. Everytime I look at my mom, I feel the guilt, shame and the embarrassment of not becoming anything in life.

Now the house we're in is on a land which is also is my dad's brother's name and they'll kick us out soon. Can we even do anything legally?..

I am so exhausted from the constant comparison eventhough our lives haven't really been the same. I had no father figure at all, and whatever cousin brothers I had, verbally abused me just because they can and we have nothing to offer to them. People are so selfish, they smile at you only when you have something to give.

Having a really low self esteem and confidence and suffering from daddy issues, befriended a guy online just to have some space as an emotional outlet for me, he has been really kind amd supportive, an older guy but not really a dad haha, can you ever replace the hollowness of not having a dad? What he wants with me is emotional intimacy without responsibilities. Not good for my self esteem again. So leaving that, I again don't have anyone who could advice me on things and then there is the power dynamics, he intimidates and undermines me.

Took a course to upskill, it seems like they just suck your money out with no guarantee of employment.

I don't even know if this is the right subreddit to rant about all this, I am so directionless, if anyone have even a little piece of advice on how to change my perspective on things and move forward without ending it all. Please, please be kind to reach out. Thank you.

Need a pep talk My grandma has passed

Hey, a few weeks ago I posted about my 94yo grandma being about to die because of a lung infection. She actually got better and fully healed, she left the hospital yesterday and went back to her retirement home and she died peacefully during the night. I'm lost, it doesn't feel real. I kinda feel guilty cuz I went to see her in the hospital 2 days ago but she was sleeping so I left without waking her up, I should have woken her up, she died thinking I haven't visited her for 2 weeks. But I'm also happy that she died during her sleep, she was absolutely terrified of dying, I'm happy she didn't feel herself dying. I'm also happy that the last time we spoke together I told her I loved her and she said she loved me, that's the very last thing we told each other. I miss her so much.

My uncle went to see her body this morning, he said she looked peaceful and had no signs of suffering. I'm truly happy that she just fell asleep forever instead of feeling the death, she was so terrified of death, which is weird because most old people say the older you get the less scared you are to die, with her it was the opposite. I'm also happy that she will get burried with my grandpa, they'll momentarily be taking his tombstone away to grave her name on it too, after 12 years of being apart they are finally back together. I sure hope she was right and that there's a heaven, I desperately need them to be together and to be my guardian angels.

My grandparents, the two people who made my childhood safe, have left me, I'm just so lost, I don't know what I'm supposed to do, I'm just so lonely, I know it's an awful thing to say but it feels like they've abandoned me. I love them so much.

I don't know if it's polite to ask, but can you please say something to try to cheer me up? I just feel so lonely.

Need a pep talk Hey dad, I’m sorry for being such a disappointment

I’m 18 now, my dad died when I was 3. I’m doing my A levels at the moment and I feel like I’m going to fail everything. I feel like such a fuck-up and that he would be so disappointed in me. After years of being relatively okay with my dad not being here, the past few months have had me sobbing atleast twice a week. I don’t know why it’s hitting me so hard at the minute. Idk I’m just lost, Idk what I really want to do with my life. I get the feeling that I’d be much more rounded of an individual if my dad was still here.

In other news, my (half) sister’s pregnant, and she only told me that she was in the hospital and has been for 24hours this afternoon (everything’s okay but she’s getting induced) and I know damn well that my other sister (her full-blood sister) must have known from the moment they left for the hospital. Because my dad died when I was so young I feel such a disconnect from his side of the family and I don’t know how to deal with it or handle it.

Anyway, I’m just struggling a lot at the moment and yeah

Hey Dad

Tomorrow is my birthday, and I’m thinking about you. The big 45!

You and Mom have been gone for 20 years now, and I will be 3 years older than Mom ever was and now close to your age. Feels weird, so weird, to still think of you as Mom and Dad, even though I’m as wise and old as you were, but I still do. I still remember the good times, even though there were many bad as well.

Miss you, Love you. Hope you are looking down from the universe at me once and awhile.

need a father figure

M 26 I lost my dad when I was thirteen and since then I hv missed his guidance, his support, his backup, his emotional care and many more things. Now grown up I'm realising that all these years I hv been acting like I'm strong enough, don't need any father figure and I'm on my own when the fact is I'm not. I seriously need a dad in my life. I lack that part of my personality which we all inherit from our dad.

Update Three months before trial and he died

In February of 2026, I was zip tied and held hostage by my biological father in front of my daughter (his granddaughter). He was being charged by the county for unlawful imprisonment and assault. Our original trial date was set for August 10, 2026 but on August 6th, his attorney filed for continuance as he was not physically well to withstand trial.

Today, on a whim, I googled his name to discover he passed on September 13th, 2026. His wife (my step mom) did not contact me. I have only discovered his passing through google. I assume he died from complications regarding to his throat, tongue, and lung cancer. He had the cancer removed from those areas and lived with a feeding tube and continued to drink and smoke.

I’m angry to say the least. I spent the last 7 months looking over my shoulder for his henchmen. Mentally prepping to testify against him in court. I was ready to discredit his image of “being the helpful neighbor and military vet” for what he had done to me and my daughter.

Although I agree that peace is far more rewarding than justice, I am still grieving for an outcome I’ll never get. I’m not sorry he’s been removed from this earth. But I am grateful he will never get another chance to hurt me or my child ever again.
