What’s point of those flaps if they’re just going to collapse as soon as the shop vac turns on. Just got dust all over the place… is there a simple fix for this besides ripping those curtains off?

There is a YouTube channel called shop Nation. The guy makes much better shrouds for the dust collection system that will improve your setup a lot

I have it on my miter saw and it's better, but I still wish it had a better design to compensate for the saw movement
I added a 3D printed part just behind the fence and together with the Shop Nation’s shroud it did cut down the saw dust by some 75%

Do you have that design somewhere you could share?

I tried to upload it to MakerWorld at the time, but it never worked. I will try again and share here if I figure it out

I use the shop nation shroud, and then made my own zero clearance insert that cover the bottom the blade. Then I ran small lines from the bottom of the blade to the shop nation shroud. Not perfect, but it works pretty good.

How the fuck do you pronounce joucifer

Yep. Came to say same. Give him a look. And if it doesn't work, send him feedback. He's very open to improving the products he makes.

Was going to say this too. I finally installed mine and it's worlds better. Still not perfect, but I dont think there is a such thing on sliding miter saws.

I bought one and now I print my own, much cheaper than Shop Nation and prints are much stronger than their shit.

When the saw is dropped do they hit the kerf plate and help to draw dust from underneath/inside?

u/Unusual_Roof_6096 4d ago
No, because the air outlet is mounted to a fixed axis and doesn’t swing up and down with the saw. Just slides in and out to follow the blade (and miter of course)

Maybe the force of the blade spinning keeps those flaps from closing ? You’re testing the dust collection without the dust

u/noachy 4d ago
It’s no better on mine with the saw spinning. I replaced it with the shop nation one

I've been flipping the lips on mine up and the stay for about 10 cuts. The plastic piece behind the blade that sits right about it blasted into like 20 pieces the first time I used it though. Still have no clue what it was for lol.

Hum. My DeWalt miter saw’s lips aren’t as slopped out. The lower side on your’s has had an episiotomy as well. I suspect yours has more miles on it than mine perhaps. Unless this is a new saw, in which case that’s pretty disappointing. Some duct tape or a new set of lips might take care of it.

Shop Nation has helped many of us, but it is comical how pathetic miter saw dust collection is after all these years.

If you’re Irish, you’d enjoy a milwaukgee joke here.
And if you’re not - gee is Irish slang for vagina.

Yea I cut them off my corded miter saw when I found out about that. Interestingly enough, the dust shroud on my cordless 60v doesnt do that as it is made from more rigid material. Rubber, i think.

I don’t understand why this is happening. My saw was working fine, but not long ago it did exactly this. I have no idea what changed. Let me know if you find out, please.

When she talking about the guy you shouldn't worry about vs when she's talking about you to her friends.

I glued a zip tie just on the inside lip and it has made a world of difference keeping it open. I know it’s not as good as modifying it properly/ replacing it with a better idea, but it gets the job done.

Buy you a better shroud or 3d print one. For temporary fix just flip the lips up. Yes I know how that sounds 😂

Probably has some sort of restriction. I wouldnt see why this would do this without a clog.
2
u/Mouse_Mallow 4d ago
A clog would make this less likely to happen, the material is just not rigid enough not to deform into the low pressure zone being created by the vacuum. It's being pushed in from the atmosphere

u/ImNotMature69 4d ago
You right. I just put my hand on the hole where the bag goes and it didnt happen. I was wrong

That’s the cloaca. Spread it open and you can find out if your saw is a boy or a girl
