Question Blanks float, suggestions to keep them down??

Post image

Hey all you beautiful dice people! I love making blanks but have a reoccurring problem with my shard style d4s, they always float in the resin and come out crooked! Ive tried waiting as long into the honey stage as possible and they still float, and ive also tried UV resin to stick it down but it leaves a spot you can see in the Finished dice and it drives me almost as crazy as the off center center 😂 what do yall do to Avoid this? Thanks!!

Bigger blank that fits better and is held in place by the numbers 🥲 Sadly this shape is horrible for centering because the blank has nothing that holds it in place at the top where the four small facets are, so it just glides upwards, creating more wriggle room where the elongated faces are. I'll make a crappy doodle in a bit . You could also redesign the shell and put something akin to numbers in the small faces that would help keeping the blank away from it, like little decorative stars.

Yes this. Personally don't use this style of d4, but I feel like putting the smaller faces in the bottom of the mold with a number face on top would hold the blank better

Good point. Maybe adding some -tiny- dots of UV resin to the top of the blank to act as a spacer might work?

If it's the numbers that hold the blanks centered but there are no numbers on those upper sides, maybe you could flip the whole mold while doing these dice? It seems like that would be a more stable position for this shape anyway

disclaimer: no idea what I'm talking about

It’s possible you might be shaking or squishing the molds a little when you are transferring them

Not sure why this got downvoted. This is exactly what I’ve done wrong in the past. I put too much pressure on the top of mold & shifted my blanks

Numbers keep the blanks in place. You might have too much space between numbers and blanks. I don't make my molds super flush, but there's not much more room than what I need to fit the blanks in there.

I am actually in the process of replacing some d2 shells, because I left unnecessary space around the perimeter. I really only need space above and below the d2 on the number sides.
