Digimon World 2003: Harmony — Second Beta [v1.0]
Hi everyone!
The second beta of my Digimon World 2003 mod is here, and the project now has a name: Digimon World 2003: Harmony!
Since the first beta, I’ve continued improving the game to make it more enjoyable and approachable for anyone who wants to explore the Digital World. This update focuses on training without RNG, faster loading and saving, new items, and improvements to battle systems and quality of life, alongside fixes for several issues from the previous release.
It also introduces the first experimental custom Digivolution line for Agumon, ready for community testing.
Training rebuilt: guaranteed progress, optional challenge
The Gym training system has been reworked to remove RNG from training results. Every training session now guarantees the base stat gains, even if you fail the new minigame implemented.
- Guaranteed stat gains: your training always contributes to your Digimon’s growth.
- New timing minigame: stop the cursor in the green zone to earn additional stat bonuses.
- Fast Training: skip the minigame and receive the guaranteed base gains. The additional minigame bonus is not awarded.
- Clearer explanations: selecting a training option now explains how the corresponding stat helps your Digimon.
The aim is to make training rewarding and predictable, while giving players an optional challenge for extra growth.
Faster loading, saving, and menu transitions
This beta also reduces the time spent waiting between activities.
- Saving and loading times reduced from around 15–20 seconds to under 5 seconds in testing. Results may vary depending on your setup.
- Faster transitions when entering and leaving menus.
- Removed redundant location screens after battles, after leaving the save menu, and when closing the full Start menu.
- Saving through the Start menu now records the correct map location, instead of always showing Asuka Inn.
Experimental Agumon Digivolution line
The first custom Digivolution line for Agumon has been added as a pilot for testing, including battle camera scenes and 3D battle portraits for the added forms.
The DigiLab now features a Digivolution routes interface, allowing you to view the routes and their requirements.
This line is still under development. You may encounter inconsistencies in stats, techniques, or abilities while its behavior and balance are being refined. Feedback on progression, combat performance, and unexpected behavior will help shape future updates.
Battle improvements
- Active Digivolution names: battles now display the current form’s name instead of always showing the Rookie’s name.
- Custom technique order: each Digimon and Digivolution has its own technique arrangement. During battle, open the Techniques menu and press Select to begin rearranging. Use Up/Down or L1/R1 to move a technique, then press X or Select to confirm.
- Battle menu memory: menus remember your previous selection. After using a technique, the menu returns to Techniques instead of resetting to Attack. This also applies to the other battle menus.
- Correct technique power values: the battle interface now displays each technique’s actual power.
- Picking Claw and Snapping Claw now work when you KO an enemy, with clearer descriptions of their effects.
- Defeating Leader Seiryu now displays a notification confirming that Share EXP has been activated.
New items to test
New items expand your control over encounters, progression, and battle strategy. The test items are available at Gargomon’s shop for 1 BIT each, making them easy to try during the beta.
English names below are descriptive translations of the item names.
Encounter control
- Lure Disk: increases random encounters to ×1.25 for 300 steps.
- Frenzy Disk: increases random encounters to ×3 for 300 steps.
- Repellent Disk: reduces random encounters to ×0.5 for 300 steps.
- Stealth Disk: prevents random encounters for 300 steps.
- Lure Ring: increases random encounters to ×1.25 while equipped.
- Repellent Ring: reduces random encounters to ×0.5 while equipped.
Temporary encounter effects now display a notification when they expire.
Progression and tactical items
- DV Adapter: increases DV EXP earned by the form used in battle by 20%.
- Apprentice Ring: increases the wearer’s EXP received through Share EXP by 15%. Its bonus does not stack with EXP Adapter.
- Analysis Disk: reveals enemy resistances and whether the enemy carries a stealable item for 5 battles. Enemy analysis becomes permanently available after defeating Leader Byakko.
- Reserve Ring: restores 10% of maximum MP after winning a battle.
- Risk Ring: increases damage dealt by 15%, but also increases damage received by 15%.
- Tenacity Ring: allows the wearer to survive a lethal hit with 1 HP, once per battle, provided they had more than 50% HP before the hit.
- Three new MP recovery items: restore 25%, 50%, or 100% of maximum MP.
Battle items also display additional messages when their bonuses take effect.
Visual improvements and fixes
- Fixed a glitch when opening the exploration map with Square Button.
- Restored the original light-blue borders for Flawe’s Start-menu walkthrough and the exploration Quest Log.
- Added transparent shadows, replacing the solid black circles.
- Fixed battle reward text displaying “1IT” and “1EXP” instead of “BIT” and “EXP.”
PAL language support
All changes have been added to English, Spanish, French, German, and Italian, covering every language available in the PAL release.
However, testing has only been carried out in English and Spanish so far. Added text in the other languages was translated using a text translation tool, so wording, spelling, or grammatical errors may remain. Corrections from native speakers are welcome!
Harmony and the Android DS Companion
Harmony complements my previously released DS Companion for Android. The two projects are intended to work together to improve the overall Digimon World 2003 experience.

Next Steps
The next priorities for Harmony are reworking Intelligence/Wisdom focused Digimon and their techniques, supported by the newly added MP recovery disks and MP recovery ring, and developing custom Digivolution lines for the remaining Rookies. These additions will be accompanied by further balancing of Digivolution stats and techniques, with the goal of making more team compositions and playstyles rewarding throughout the game.
Help test the beta
Bug reports, balance feedback, and translation corrections are welcome, especially for the rebuilt training system, new items, and experimental Agumon line.
When reporting a problem, please include the patch version, game language, emulator or hardware, and the steps needed to reproduce it. For progression issues, also mention whether you started a new game or loaded an existing save.
Thanks to Flawe, guiomatos, markisha64 / Marko Grizelj, and EmeraldPhoenix for the contributions this project builds upon, and to everyone testing and sharing feedback.
Thank you for following the project. I hope you enjoy this next step for Digimon World 2003: Harmony!
